Blake Lapthorn, Critchleys and Shirlaws hosted a seminar on Thursday 13 September at Blake Lapthorn's Oxford office on maximising the potential of buying or selling a business in today's economic climate.
Delivered at Casual Connect Europe 2016
How do you prepare to sell your company? The preparation phase is critical in positioning your company for sale. Setting tasks and timelines, allocating staff resources, conducting internal due diligence, and readying financials are just a handful of items that need to be addressed to make sure the initial discussion with a prospective buyer leads to a successful transaction. This session will explore the tasks and requirements that, when the time is ready, will maximize your chances of success.
Time is the biggest deal killer. The key is to keep deal momentum going after it starts. Thus, it’s never too early to begin preparing for the sale of a business and beginning to compile the due diligence documents that a potential buyer will request.

This proposal was for admission interview. It was written in late 2019 before the pandemic. You can learn about my original aspiration of applying for this contemporary-art postgraduate programme based on my studio-art experiences, my experimentations and my confusions towards the notions of contemporary-art curatorship.
This is a very fundamental version of my research proposal for the admission interview of MAFA studies at CUHK Fine Arts. It was written right after attending Prof. Ho Siu-kee's admission talk in 2019, and there was no pandemic at that time. Now, the Kowloon Walled City Series is my graduation project. Looking back to my original idea before the admission, will there be some similarities between the research proposal and my current creative development?
2. First forays into art:
When i first began to take interest in art,
i naturally veered towards portraits. My
formal education in the subject consisted
largely of still life and outdoor sketching.
The first few works are from that period.
3. These two portraits are
reproductions
of two lesser known personalities,
Eugene Delacrois, and a spanish
flamenco dancer of the 80’s.
4. Local inspiration led
to these two renderings.
The culture and tradition
of India is quite intruiging
to try and capture, and
these were some of
my attempts at it.
5. Still life:
The repeated excercise of observing and
accurately rendering still life on paper
forms the base of my still developing
talent for representing the ideas created
by the mind onto physical media.
6. As a student, I was encouraged to
try different arrangements of
objects made of materials having
different textures and shapes. The
one to the left was done under
general lighting, whereas the other
was rendered under strong
7. Creating new models and sketching
them was a regular part of my
classroom training.
9. Sketching Out-of-doors:
Whenever I had a particular whim, I would sit
outside and sketch whatever view i came across. Since
I had the opportunity to visit a few interesting places,
I managed to sketch the next few drawings.
10. This view is from outside the school
i studied in during my 10th grade.
Temple in the mountains
12. This is a very interesting street i
found in varanasi. Done using black
ink on cartridge.

13. Perspective study:
My first foray into perspective drawing
was an accident. It happened to be that i
was painting this avenue..
It was imaginative however, and
I just couldn’t get it right. When I
asked my art teacher about it, he
initiated me into the art of seeing
in perspective. Although i had a notion
of it earlier, this was the first time
the concept had been hardlined. The
next few works are a few of my
attempts at perspective.
17. If I Were An Insect In the Marketplace
Early Memories-hiding under the sitting-cot
Note that these works are purely
imaginnative. Also, they bring to the
close the perspective renderings.
19. Miscellaneous:
Though a large portion of my portfolio
contains ordered realist work, there are
some instances of abstractions as well.
Besides, there are some drawings which
have no other purpose than to serve as
practise. These i have put in this
section.
