Innovation VIIIPortable Sanitation Systems by Shramik Sanitation Systems
Present StatisticsToday 2.6 billion people in the world have no access to toilets and 1.3 billion live in India and China.less than 20 % of Indians have access to sanitation. In rural areas, a mere 3% of the population has access to sanitation. In urban areas merely 20% of the population has access to water /flush toilets connected to sewage system .In slum areas, where more than half of Mumbai lives, an average 81 people share a single toilet. In some places it rises to an eye-watering 273. A survey by WaterAid (international NGO) has ranked India second on the list of the “WORLDS WORST PLACE FOR SANITATION”
Current StateNo urinals in Schools“Who will clean my toilet - is the refrain from schools across India. The government cannot clean toilets in thousands of schools, many tucked away in rural corners. The schools will have to develop their own mechanism to keep their toilets useable," says PrashantPanigrahi, Chief Engineer, government of Orissa.   Functional toilets locked because of lack of running water supply students leave the facilities dirty and unusable  Insufficient state support in maintaining hygiene &  sanitation facilities.Less than 40% schools in Uttarakhand have a place for sanitation, however dismal it maybe.
Current StateNo urinals in Public areaAccording to the urban development norms, there should be one public urinal per 100 citizens in a city like Pune, but the situation in the city is alarming, with one urinal per 9,100 citizens.
Dwindling numbers due to demolition of some urinals for road widening and other works. No urinals during travelling, at construction sites, at local tourist spots like museums, local bazaars or monuments
