Was free health care (now the Spanish are changing all that). People from within Euro zone don’t have to change money to another currency. Lots of other retired people and activities organised for them (familiar things to do).
- 23. Costs – extreme strain on health/social services because retired people need more health care. This was free to all, not now. However people on incapacity benefit from the UK still get free care (because we’d do the same for the Spanish). Lots of elderly migrants don’t integrate with local people and don’t speak the language
- 24. Benefits – Property development has been booming business as property was built to provide for the migrants. Costs of property rose (but now it’s not as the recession bites). Many of the people moving there are quite well off and so spend money in local businesses helping the economy.
