The Oresund Bridge connects Denmark and Sweden across the Oresund Strait between Copenhagen and Malmo. Construction began in 1995 and included building an artificial island and a tunnel. The bridge opened in 2000 and is over 7 kilometers long, making it the longest combined bridge-tunnel structure in the world. It carries road and rail traffic across the strait using concrete immersed tunnel sections and a cable-stayed bridge design.
