This document describes a student project that uses a shift register configuration to create a police chase light effect. It includes a list of components used, such as 8 D flip-flops, 8 LEDs, and resistors. It provides a block diagram and truth table showing how the shift register is configured in serial-in parallel-out mode. The circuit diagram and a simulation are presented. A timing diagram shows the LEDs turning on sequentially in response to clock and data input signals. Pros and cons of using a shift register are discussed, noting ease of implementation but inability to change patterns without reprogramming.
