Podcasting has roots that trace back to the 1980’s; it was
called “audio blogging”.
It was not until the technology became available in 2004 that
the term ”podcast” was termed.
Podcasts are digital media files released periodically and can
be accessed for free by downloading from the Internet
Dave Winer, a software developer, is credited as the one
who began podcasts

How do they work: Podcasting is the
process of creating audio files, usually
featuring discussions about certain
topics, and making them available on
the Internet in a way that notifies
desktop or web applications about new
uploads
How to record a podcast
The first step involves deciding what type
of topic you or your group would like to
discuss; it can range from social media to
politics. The dialogue can be scripted if
necessary.
 The 2nd step is to record your dialogue and
create the audio file which is to be saved in
mp3 format.
 Before recording make sure that you have
adequate microphones and recording
equipment.

How to upload a Podcast
A podcast will be sent to internet servers
via browser of file transfer protocol.
 It should happen rather quickly with a
good internet connection.
 The internet servers can either be
hosted personally by the podcaster or a
free wen hosting service.
 Ex: itunes, blogger,wordpress, youtube,
soundcloud, podcast directory, the
Podcast Network, etc.

Why should you listen or make
podcasts?
There are so many different podcasts
available that there really is a podcast for
everyone. Podcasts can be
education, entertaining and informing; you
can gain serious insight and perspective
from them.
 In terms of new media professionals, I
believe that if they want to brand
themselves as an “expert” in their field of
choice they should either listen or create
podcasts to show their expertise.


To conclude
Podcasts are a great way to learn or be
entertained about a topic of your
choosing
 Most podcasts are free and are easily
accessible
 Anyone can create a podcast, all you
need is the right equipment and the
enthusiasm for your topic of discussion.

