This document outlines a program to engage Catholic high school students in their faith through a combination of in-person and online sessions. The key objectives are to get students involved in their community through a "Power of One" service project of their own design, with parent/guardian support. Students will participate in group discussions and complete independent work between sessions. Suggested session topics include analyzing scripture passages and creating modern parables.
1. There is
ONE body and
ONE Spirit,
just as you were
called to the
ONE hope of your
calling,
ONE Lord
ONE faith
ONE baptism
ONE God and
Father of all
Eph 4.4-6
2. Objectives:
*To engage students in their community
*Engage parents to work with students
*Use their gifts to ‘make a difference’ (ownership)
*Work at home…on their schedule
*Get to know them and what they are thinking…
do they ‘get it’? (have them give ‘comments’
anonymously)
*Help them to see how the Catholic teachings are
relevant to their own lives.
*Involve parish community

7. • Religion Class Online
• One class
• A “Block” of classes (use with in-person)
• Curriculum (use with in-person sessions also)
* Catechist news/comments
* Parish Announcements
• Other ideas?
• Act of Kindness
• Book Blog (club)
8. 1st class – Have students look up and discuss a
few parables (or scripture stories)
What is the message of the story?
Give students some websites that they can go
to and create their own version of the story, or
a ‘modern day parable’. (see next slide)
Meet in-person again in about 2 weeks to have
all students share their stories with the class.
9. Family Movie Night
Assign a ‘family movie’ to be watched sometime
during the year.
(set up a reserve list to loan movie)
Make a blog that has questions for the family to
discuss and answer
You can assign # for each family so that answers can
remain anonymous
Questions could be for each ‘chapter’ of dvd
Student could have to compare his/her opinion with
parents and ‘comment’ on how they differ (then
parents don’t have to answer, but you know they
watched video).
