1. Vessel Planned Maintenance System
•PMS is a paper and/or software based system which allows ship owners and/or
operators to track maintenance in intervals according to manufacturers and
Classification Society requirements.
•The maintenance; primarily supervised by the on board personnel, is then credited
towards inspections required by periodic surveys.
•The planning and scheduling of the maintenance as well as its documentation must be
made according to a system that is approved by a Classification society like the
American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Germanischer Lloyd, Lloyd's Register or Bureau
Veritas etc. Which is now mandatory as per ISM (International Safety Management
Code).
• The PMS program must be submitted in English language but the instructions and
history may be in the most suitable language. Maintenance summaries in English are
required.
•An annual survey is needed to review the status of equipment. A special survey every
five years verifies that the PMS program is functioning. The PMS surveys will be
harmonized with other periodic surveys.
2. History
•Early systems were written on paper (Kardex system) and included only a few of the
most important items on board.
• In time the system grew and improved. Development of computers gave a new boost
to Planned Maintenance programs in shipping.
•In 1984 the first Planned Maintenance software specially designed for ships use was
marketed.
•Named Asset Management Operating System (AMOS-D) it ran in DOS, but the
development of Windows software gave new boost and today there are a variety of
Planned Maintenance programs for shipping use
3. What is the PMS Software for:
•How often do you experience unexpected breakdowns? Have you ever calculated the
cost of these breakdowns? And most of the time they happen because of some
maintenance work not done on time. So in order to overcome this and to have a proper
Planned Maintenance System for each and every Component in the Ship the PMS is
designed.
• It provides you all aspects of a Computerised Planned Maintenance System along with
comprehensive Inventory Control, e-Documentation, Certificates, Surveys & Inspections
details. An advanced configurable Reporting and Chart module helps Budgeting and
Cost management.
•The main objective of PMS is to reduce each and every possible cost, which can be
controlled with a proper system and with minimum manpower required.
•Management in Shore based Office has complete access all the time to factual Reports
and Graphs on the current status of Onboard Maintenance, Surveys, Certificates,
Inspections, Inventory status and all other details
5. 5. Identification of the equipment
a. Equipment name and possible equipment code
b. Possible running hours and updating facility
6. Identification of planned maintenance job
a. Minimal information of planned job
b. Filtering sorting of planned jobs by class and/or critical equipment
c. Saving of planned maintenance jobs in an electronic format with at least
following planned job information , equipment code /name , job code
specification , scope title, job description / details, job interval .
7. Reporting of performed maintenance job
8.. Maintenance job scheduling
9.Viewing of job history reports
10.Viewing of traceablity reports
11. The language wording used in software shall be at least english
6. •PMS system like the WALLAM’s Ship Maintenance and Management System provides
complete
•Planned Maintenance,
•Inventory Management,
•Certificates, Surveys and Inspections details,
•E-Documentation etc. in a single Software Package.
•PMS like SMMS is a Windows based Software and it has been designed with a unique
User Friendly Interface for a very easy working environment. It incorporates high level of
Data and Software Security. It is a fully Multi User Software to be run on any type of
Windows based Network and can be used by any number of users simultaneously.
•An advanced Data Replication module keeps the complete data of all the Vessels fully
synchronized between the Vessel and Shore based Office. The Data Transfer module
uses latest techniques to reduce the communication costs to minimum possible level.
•Shore based Ship Managers can view the complete Maintenance and Inventory status
and other details of all the Vessels at any time.
•The Certificates, Inspections and Surveys module helps in keeping the complete record
and notify before time for all the pending renewals. SMMS e-Documentation module
provides all the options to work in a Paperless environment
7. Log In PMS
•To start a PMS Software, double click on the PMS icon on the desktop screen.
This opens up the User log in window. Each User has been given a User ID and
a
