1. Programs Developed/Modified/Maintenance
o 3-Strike (3X) application developed in Visual Basic and run on Windows
platform. A complete custom application development, this program collects and
analyzes live test date from a site custom MSDOS data collection system. It
notifies engineers and technicians of action needed to reduce or eliminate repair
costs on highly complex PCBAs. This project saves the company roughly $400K
per quarter by tracking thousands of PCBAs by Serial Number and warning of
past repairs done and eliminating potentially harmful future repairs.
o Repair Yield/Fault Dictionary: Developed in Visual Basic on Windows, this
program interfaces to an SQL data base which contains part number, serial
number, test, and test iteration specific failure data. The application compiles all
previous failure data by part number, test and failure mode, determines whether
a fix was successful or not, and reports on the most common fixes. Since there
are literally hundreds of customer part numbers, each with hundreds of failure
modes, this program saves thousands of hours of technician & engineering time,
as well as reduces the number of repairs made, thus improving quality and
saving in repair, retest and component costs.
o Standard Assets Maintenance Management System (SAMMs): Originally
developed in the early 2000’s this VB application was developed to help the site
meet ISO guidelines by tracking equipment assets, repair history and calibration
history. I took over support/development of this application in 2006, interfaced it
with an SQL database, Crystal Reports, and added many updates & additional
features. The system is now deployed in Austin (both manufacturing and services
sites) as well other sites across the world as Flex’s preferred asset tracking
system. Other features include equipment work orders, preventive maintenance
& calibration tracking, and equipment & spare parts purchasing, in addition to
capital asset management & traceability. This system is critical in maintaining
financial (asset) records, as well as meeting ISO quality traceability standards.
o HTML Webmail: Developed in HTML and ASP.net, this small application
automates sending email out through the Exchange Server without using Outlook
or any other email application.
o ESD Tracking: It is important to control electrical static discharge in electronics
manufacturing. All employees are required to verify their wrist and foot straps
prior to entering the manufacturing floor. This application, in conjunction with
automated measuring equipment, automatically records and tracks all employees
when they scan their employee badges. In some cases, this system interfaces
with the security system, only allowing access to the manufacturing floor after
positive verification. This system replaces the manual tracking log & is critical for
ISO quality records.
o VMI Pack: Program that verifies all required build and test operations were
completed and passed before allowing the finished assembly or chassis to be
processed for shipment. This system checks the required process flow against the
actual process flow, only printing the packing labels if the product passes this
verification, thus ensuring a quality product.
o Iron Man: Flex uses thousands of different memory part numbers on their
products. Due to design or marginality constraints, products often will not work
with memory versions that are old or obsoleted, or even the same memories
from different vendors. This application verifies that replacement memory is
compliant before allowing the technician or repair operator to use it, thus saving
thousands of dollars in additional test, repair, and component costs. In addition
to the Austin sites, Iron Man is also used by Flex sites in Malaysia and China.
