Personalize Learning Too!
We model the concept of a Personal
Learning Environment when we
actively cultivate our PLN.

25. The Collaboration Age is about learning with a
decidedly different group of "others”, people whom
we may not know and may never meet, but who
share our passions and interests and are willing to
invest in exploring them together.

How will we know when we have successfully achieved the
Learning Goal?
• I can explain what a PLN is to a colleague
• I actively seek to learn through conversations
online and f2f
• I am working to build a network of people,

37. Connect With Me

Think about this as we work through the ideas this evening.
This is what you do.
If you want to be successful, you had better also do this: LEARN Model it, seek it, be diligent and voracious, converse and share.
And we want kids to have a PLN – A Personal Learning Network
Feeling alone? Want to connect? Teaching can be a lonely place.
There is never enough time. Time for 140 characters?
You will need to provide evidence of professional learning when you are searching for a teaching position.
We need to model PLEs for students
There are many types of social media to use to start building an online PLN, but Twitter is where educators hang out, so it is a great place to start.
information overload? Kids have to deal with it. How do you deal with it? It can be that way. But it's a good way to learn to filter things for yourself as well. Right, that's my track. information overload in terms of too many blogs to read, too many things to check out for yourself. Your pln can be a filter.
information overload Twitter as a filter What did other educators like? Twitter allows you to get a smaller, refined stream. Like putting a straw into the hydrant When you follow like minded people, you get info that has been seen by someone and passed on because they find it useful for something. Pre-filters it.
Taking a 'dip in the stream'! I forget where I heard that analogy, Wil Richardson maybe? that twitter is like a stream, you don't read it all, you just stick in your toes when you have a minute, or want to chat or think about things. I like that. me too
An example of a quick peek at Twitter, a resource posted, tagged and saved all in about 30 seconds.
