The document discusses how to develop a personal learning network (PLN) to advance one's career. It defines a PLN as an informal network of people and resources one interacts with for learning. The presentation outlines tools for building a PLN like LinkedIn, Twitter, blogs and lists. It provides examples of how to use hashtags and lists on Twitter and maintain groups and profiles on LinkedIn. Attendees are asked to set an action step to expand their PLN by a deadline. Developing a PLN takes effort but allows lifelong, location-independent learning through global connections.

Editor's Notes
how many of you use social media in your personal life? How many use for work and professional development?
Preamble – one of the goals of these PD events is to network with other professionals. You’ve had an opportunity to network with those at your table for the first part of the evening and now we’re going to mix things up a bit and ask you to spend time with others for the next portion of the evening. Stella is handing out cards. In a few moments, we will ask you to get up and move to another table to meet others from the same family. You’ll participate in activities and discussions with this group. Feel free to take all your possessions with you.
It is about connecting with the people, organizations, and resources that relate to your specific interests for the purpose of continuing your education and informal learning.
Emphasize that PLN is part of a PLE. PLN is about People and PLE can be developed independently.

Responsibility – funds not available to get the expertise you need for PD… 2 Way street – listen in and offer help… repost information, refine and grown network over time. Inexpensive PD! Way to learn from peers.
