I never used Twitter before this class. I did not understand its
value in supporting my professional development as an
educator.
My first tweet was on September 20th, 2013:
Since I began Twitter I have tweeted 49 times!!

As of December 5th, 2013 I am following 130 people
and/or organizations and have 23 followers!!

Why follow?
She is teaching the same topic as I would like to teach. Therefore, I
could probably use some of her resources. She loves technology so she
could provide advice on how to use it in the classroom. Finally, I chose
to follow Stacy because her followers and the people she follows
probably also teach the sciences and would be people I would like to
network with.

Why follow?
I decided to follow @Education_UofA because it provides current news and
resources, which will help me to be aware of what is new in education. With this
knowledge I can continually improve my teaching. It is also nice to know how
new teachers are being taught in the Faculty of Education. This will help me
understand my future student teachers.

Science advocate.
He makes science fun.
Why follow?
Bill Nye is an excellent scientist. He knows how to make science fun. Since
I want to teach science I thought it would be wise to follow him to get
ideas about how to engage my students with scientific activities.

Why follow?
Since we live in the digital age it is important that I keep
current with technology. I decided to follow
@21stCenturyTch to know techniques and resources that will
help me use technology in the classroom.

1. I re-tweeted fantastic tweets (e.g., below). A few people started following
me based on my re-tweets.
2. Whenever I made a video or document, etc… for this class I tweeted it.
People interested in the video, etc… began to follow me. One organization retweeted me.

3. I decided to follow other people and organizations. Currently, I am
following 130.
4. I joined other PLNs (e.g., Pinterest) and tweeted about them. Those who
liked my PLNs may have also joined this PLN (i.e., Twitter).
5. I tweeted questions hoping others would reply. I also read a few discussions.

I learned that Twitter is a valuable resource for educators.
Twitter has expanded my professional network and
provided wonderful resources that will help me in my
classroom.
I have established connections with experts in science
and teaching via re-tweeting their tweets, asking them
questions and following them.
