Business entities are created or formed at the state level, often by filing documents with a state agency such as the Secretary of State. Types of business entities include corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships. Business entities are subject to taxation and must file a tax return. Some business entities are considered for federal tax purposes to be not separate from its owner. Such is the case with single-member limited liability companies and sole proprietors. The income and deductions related to such entities are reported on the same tax return as the owner of the business. We call these disregarded entities because the IRS \"disregards\" the separate name and structure of the business. A disregarded entity can choose to be treated as if it were a separate entity. This is done by making an Entity Classification Election using Form 8832 and filing this form with the IRS. The purpose of this form is to choose a classification other than the default classification provided by federal tax laws. For example, suppose John is the sole-owner of XYZ LLC. As a single-member limited liability company, XYZ would be a disregarded entity. The IRS would expect John to report his business income and expenses on a Schedule C filed with his personal Form 1040. In other words, XYZ LLC is being treated as a sole proprietorship by default. John could choose to treat XYZ LLC as if it were a corporation. To do so, he would file the Form 8832 to make his choice known to the IRS. Thus we distinguish between entities, which is the actual organizational structure created under state law, from its tax classification. The confusion is that we use the same words for both concepts. C Corporations
C corporation is a business term that is used to distinguish this type of entity from others, as its profits are taxed separately from its owners under subchapter C of the Internal Revenue Code. In an S corporation, the profits are passed on to the shareholders, and are taxed based on personal returns. A regular corporation (also known as a C corporation) is taxed as a separate entity. The corporation must file a Form 1120 each year to report its income and to claim its deductions and credits.
A C corporation can deduct the cost of benefit as a business expense. For example, they can write off the entire costs of health plans established for employees as business expenses. These benefits are tax-free even for those receiving them.
S Corporations
S corporations are corporations that elect to pass corporate income, losses, deductions, and credits through to their shareholders for federal tax purposes. Shareholders of S corporations report the flow-through of income and losses on their personal tax returns and are assessed tax at their individual income tax rates. This allows S corporations to avoid double taxation on the corporate income. S corporations are responsible for tax on certain built-in gains and passive income at the entity level.
The big benefit of S-corp taxation is that S-corporation shareholders do not have to pay self-employment tax on their share of the business’s profits. For example, Larissa is the sole owner of her S-corporation, an advertising agency. Her revenues from the business are $50,000 per year, and her annual expenses (not counting salary) total $10,000. Therefore, her S-corp’s profit for the year (before subtracting her own salary) is $40,000.
Limited Liability Companies (LLCs)
A limited liability company (LLC) is a corporate structure whereby the members of the company cannot be held personally liable for the company's debts or liabilities. Limited liability companies are essentially hybrid entities that combine the characteristics of a corporation and a partnership or sole proprietorship
Although LLCs have some attractive features, they also have a number of disadvantages, especially in relation to the structure of a corporation. A LLC has to be dissolved upon the death or bankruptcy of a member, unlike a corporation, which can exist in perpetuity. Also, a LLC may not be a suitable option when the objective of the founder is to eventually become a publicly listed company.
LLC members are considered self-employed business owners rather than employees of the LLC so they are not subject to tax withholding. Instead, each LLC member is responsible for setting aside enough money to pay taxes on that member's share of the profits. The members must estimate the amount of tax they'll owe for the year and make quarterly payments to the IRS.

To study the effects of colonial legacy, we focus on one case, the West African nation of
Cameroon. Originally colonized by Germany, Cameroon was divided between Britain and
France during World War I, and the two powers implemented widely divergent colonial policies
in their separate zones. The two areas were only reunited at independence in 1960, and despite a
strong policy of centralization, they retain separate legal and education systems and a strong
attachment to the language and culture of their respective colonizers. A comparison of these
regions thus permits an excellent test of the colonizer influence hypothesis. The regions became
British and French colonies due to an exogenous shock unrelated to local conditions (i.e., the
German defeat in WW I), and they have similar post-independence histories. And while there
might be differences in preexisting conditions across these regions, these differences are unlikely
to be pronounced at the arbitrary internal boundary between them. Hence, we can use a
regression discontinuity research design to identify the effects of colonial legacy. The use of a
single case keeps us from examining within-colonizer variation, but we will argue that the
strategies pursued by the British and French and Cameroon present a “hard case” for the
hypothesis of British superiority..

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic Imperative
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. - 1. please explain any business entity with 2-3 paragraphs. Solution A business entity is an organization created by one or more natural persons to carry on a trade or business. Business entities are created or formed at the state level, often by filing documents with a state agency such as the Secretary of State. Types of business entities include corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships. Business entities are subject to taxation and must file a tax return. Some business entities are considered for federal tax purposes to be not separate from its owner. Such is the case with single-member limited liability companies and sole proprietors. The income and deductions related to such entities are reported on the same tax return as the owner of the business. We call these disregarded entities because the IRS "disregards" the separate name and structure of the business. A disregarded entity can choose to be treated as if it were a separate entity. This is done by making an Entity Classification Election using Form 8832 and filing this form with the IRS. The purpose of this form is to choose a classification other than the default classification provided by federal tax laws. For example, suppose John is the sole-owner of XYZ LLC. As a single-member limited liability company, XYZ would be a disregarded entity. The IRS would expect John to report his business income and expenses on a Schedule C filed with his personal Form 1040. In other words, XYZ LLC is being treated as a sole proprietorship by default. John could choose to treat XYZ LLC as if it were a corporation. To do so, he would file the Form 8832 to make his choice known to the IRS. Thus we distinguish between entities, which is the actual organizational structure created under state law, from its tax classification. The confusion is that we use the same words for both concepts. Colloquially, when accountants talk about "entities" or "entity returns," they are referring to tax returns other than for individual people.
