Please answer and no handwriting :) These are short essay questions. ( These are my third time uploading...... please do not answer if you are not sure about all of these) 1.What is cell differentiation? How is it related to selective gene expression? 2. List the stages of mitosis and describe the major nuclei changes occurring during each stage. When does cytokinesis occur? What are the major cytoplasmic changes? 3.Compare and contrast the roles of introns and exons. Solution 1. Cell differentiation - changes in the cell called cell differentiation. It leads to change in cell shape, size, metabolic activities etc. eg zygote changes to a human being(complex system). Cell differentiation is highly related to selective gene expression as gene expression controls cell differentiation by actually guiding the cells by either switching on or off the particular process. 3. Difference between introns and exons are These both are discovered by Phillip Sharp and Richard Roberts in 1977 Introns 1. Introns are non-coding regions of the gene and both are part of a gene. 2. Introns are removed through RNA splicing from the gene. 3. less conserved. 4. found between exons 5. common in higher vertebrate genes rarely in yeast. Exons 1. These are coding regions in the gene. 2. not removed from the gene. 3. conserved. 4. codes for proteins which get translated..
