Theories and models of organizational behavior help summarize knowledge, highlight relationships, and provide guidance for change. There are three main types of theories: descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive. Management functions include planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Managers perform a variety of roles and activities in a fast-paced environment with little time for reflection. Effective managers spend more time on communication and human resource activities, while successful managers focus more on networking. Research methods for developing management theories include observation, surveys, experiments, and case studies, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.
Planning involves deciding in advance what to do, how to do it, where to do it, and who will do it. It bridges the gap from the present to where an organization wants to go. Planning makes it possible for things to occur that would not otherwise happen. There are different types of plans including operational plans, tactical plans, and strategic plans. Operational plans are specific plans for departments, work groups, and individuals. Tactical plans are the means to activate strategies. Strategic plans are designed with the goals of the entire organization in mind. Planning also involves characteristics, processes, and the six P's of planning which are purpose, philosophy, promises, policies, plans, and priorities.

This document discusses the importance of setting goals and creating action plans. It notes that failing to plan is the same as planning to fail, and that setting formal goals can help monitor and improve performance, improve practice quality, and replace fear with focus. Effective goal statements should be specific, measurable, actionable, realistic, and time-bound. The process for achieving goals involves setting goals, creating action plans with specific sequential actions and milestones, and managing goals.
This document outlines a 7 step process for planning success: 1) preparation, 2) foundations, 3) assessment, 4) strategy, 5) implementation, 6) coaching, and 7) adjustment. It encourages making God the priority in all planning and committing to plans formally. The benefits of planning include establishing unity, improving communication, and providing a clear roadmap for the future.
Strategic planning can fail for several reasons, including having the wrong timing, undefined language, and choosing the wrong people. Other potential reasons for failure are short-term planning that focuses only on immediate goals, an unsuitable meeting space, setting too many unreachable goals, ignoring budget constraints, and failing to take action to implement the plan. For strategic planning to succeed, the timing and participants need to be carefully chosen, terms clearly defined, long-term goals considered, and action taken to realize the plan.

This document provides an overview of planning concepts including:
1) Planning is defined as determining future courses of action in advance and involves setting goals, developing strategies, and creating plans.
2) There are different types of plans including strategic, operational, long-term, short-term, specific, and directional plans.
3) The planning process involves analyzing opportunities, setting objectives, determining premises, evaluating alternatives, selecting a course of action, and implementing and reviewing plans. Barriers to planning and criticisms of overly rigid planning are also discussed.
This document discusses different types and characteristics of planning. It begins by defining planning as a basic management function that involves formulating detailed plans to balance needs with available resources through identifying goals, strategies, and means of implementation.
It then outlines several characteristics of planning, including that it is an all-pervasive, primary management function, continuous process, and requires accuracy, intellectual activity, choice between alternatives, and decision making.
Several types of planning are described based on objectives, time horizon, functional area, and models proposed by different authors on the basis of breadth, time, specificity, and frequency of use. Strategic and operational planning are discussed in more detail, including their long-term focus, analysis of the environment
Chapter 2-Team Planning-Mayonte, Jevy Rose M.pptxJevyRoseMolino1
Team planning involves setting strategic and operational plans for a team to align their work with organizational goals. It provides focus and clarity through identifying strategic objectives, projects, and tasks. Benefits include ensuring activities move the needle for the organization, taking guesswork out of project planning, and facilitating capacity and resource planning. The team planning process involves strategic alignment, a planning session, plan creation, and review. Key people involved are the entire team, team leader, senior manager, and sometimes an external facilitator. An effective plan has five elements: purpose, strategic planning, execution plan, contingency plan, and tracking/metrics.
Fundamental Concepts of STRATEGIC PLANNINGMariyah Ayoniv
Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy or direction to allocate resources to pursue its strategy. It generally deals with what the organization does, who it does it for, and how it excels. Strategic planning involves analyzing the internal and external environment, setting goals and objectives, identifying strategies with timelines and tasks, allocating resources, implementing plans, and evaluating results. The key aspects of strategic planning include clarifying objectives, diagnosing current conditions, assessing alternatives, translating plans into action, and adjusting through evaluation.
Planning provides direction for employees and helps an organization achieve its goals efficiently by stating in advance how work will be done. It reduces risk and uncertainty by allowing managers to anticipate changes and develop responses. Planning also reduces wasteful activities by coordinating efforts across departments and individuals. It promotes innovative ideas by giving managers the opportunity to develop new plans. Furthermore, planning facilitates decision making by laying down targets and establishing standards that allow performance to be measured and controlled.
Planning provides direction for employees and organizations to achieve goals efficiently. It reduces uncertainty by allowing managers to anticipate changes and develop responses. Planning also reduces wasteful activities by coordinating efforts across departments, and promotes innovative ideas by allowing managers to develop new plans. Additionally, planning facilitates decision making by establishing targets to evaluate alternatives against, and establishes standards for controlling performance.
Planning is the process of setting objectives and determining how to accomplish them. It provides direction, reduces uncertainty, and establishes goals. The planning process involves perceiving opportunities, defining objectives, identifying alternatives, and formulating supporting plans. Types of plans include strategic plans, operational plans, long-term plans, short-term plans, directional plans, and standing plans. Planning tools and techniques include environmental scanning, forecasting, and benchmarking. Planning creates structure for other management functions and sets the stage by providing a sense of direction.
This document provides an overview of the planning process. It begins by listing the names of five individuals who were involved in planning. It then provides definitions of planning, noting that planning bridges the gap from the present to the future. Goals are described as important for providing direction, focusing efforts, guiding decisions, and helping to evaluate progress. The nature, objectives, steps, importance, failures, advantages, and levels of planning are then outlined. Finally, it discusses operationalizing and institutionalizing strategy.

Planning is the process of thinking ahead and preparing for the future before time. It involves setting objectives and determining how to achieve goals. Some key aspects of planning include defining objectives, developing premises about the future environment, evaluating alternatives to achieve objectives, identifying necessary resources, establishing tasks, and determining tracking methods to monitor progress. Planning reduces uncertainty, focuses efforts on goals, facilitates control, and avoids random activities. However, it requires time and resources and may not be useful in emergencies. Overall, planning is an important management function but should be flexible enough not to hinder urgent responses when needed.
The document discusses decision making and the planning process. It describes how decision making drives the planning process and establishes organizational goals. There are strategic, tactical, and operational goals and plans. Strategic plans outline priorities to achieve strategic goals, tactical plans implement strategic plans to achieve tactical goals, and operational plans focus on carrying out tactical plans to achieve operational goals. Effective planning requires managing barriers like inappropriate goals, improper reward systems, and reluctance to establish goals. Formal goal setting through management by objectives can help integrate planning by involving collaboration between managers and subordinates.
This document discusses planning in health services. It defines health services planning as the orderly process of defining community health problems, identifying unmet needs and resources to meet them, establishing priority goals, and projecting actions to accomplish programs. The document outlines the basic steps in health service planning, including situational analysis, priority setting, establishing objectives and targets, identifying obstacles, designing strategies and budgets, and writing the plan. It also discusses types of plans, principles of planning, and reasons why planning may fail.
Planning involves determining future courses of action in advance. It focuses on defining goals, strategies, and plans. There are different types and levels of planning including strategic, operational, and tactical.
The strategic planning process involves analyzing opportunities, setting objectives, determining planning premises, evaluating alternatives, selecting actions, and formulating derivative plans. It aims to position the organization for the future.
Management by objectives integrates planning activities like setting goals and evaluating performance. It motivates employees and improves managing through results-oriented planning. However, MBO can fail if objectives are not clearly defined or employees are not committed.
Effective strategic planning requires establishing a vision, mission, objectives, strategies, and performance indicators. It provides
Planning involves defining goals, strategies, and coordinated plans. It determines what to do, how, when, and by whom. Planning establishes objectives, assesses current status, identifies gaps, and develops hierarchical plans. It is goal-oriented, continuous, flexible, and involves choosing between alternatives. Planning provides direction, coordination, risk reduction, and facilitates control and decision-making. However, plans may create rigidity and not account for a dynamic environment. Effective planning requires top management support, participation, communication, and integration of plans.
The document discusses strategic planning for centers, outlining key considerations for the process. It covers the typical elements of a strategic plan, including mission, vision, goals, objectives and timelines. The planning process involves articulating values, assessing the situation, agreeing on priorities, writing the plan, implementing it and evaluating outcomes. An effective facilitator guides stakeholders through preparation, exploration, environmental scanning and establishing a shared vision. The document provides examples of center strategic plans and emphasizes linking the center's plan to the overarching institutional strategy.
This document discusses planning in organizations. It defines planning as defining goals, strategies, and coordinating activities to achieve goals. Planning provides direction, reduces uncertainty, establishes goals, and minimizes waste. There are different types of goals like financial, strategic, stated, and real goals. Approaches to goal setting include traditional top-down and MBO which involves collaborative goal setting. Plans outline how to achieve goals and come in forms like strategic, operational, short-term, long-term, specific, directional, single-use, and standing plans. Environmental uncertainty, organizational level, and future commitments impact planning.

From Concept to reality : Implementing Lean Managements DMAIC Methodology for...Rokibul Hasan
The Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry in Bangladesh is a cornerstone of the economy, but increasing costs and stagnant productivity pose significant challenges to profitability. This study explores the implementation of Lean Management in the Sampling Section of RMG factories to enhance productivity. Drawing from a comprehensive literature review, theoretical framework, and action research methodology, the study identifies key areas for improvement and proposes solutions.
Through the DMAIC approach (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), the research identifies low productivity as the primary problem in the Sampling Section, with a PPH (Productivity per head) of only 4.0. Using Lean Management techniques such as 5S, Standardized work, PDCA/Kaizen, KANBAN, and Quick Changeover, the study addresses issues such as pre and post Quick Changeover (QCO) time, improper line balancing, and sudden plan changes.
The research employs regression analysis to test hypotheses, revealing a significant correlation between reducing QCO time and increasing productivity. With a regression equation of Y = -0.000501X + 6.72 and an R-squared value of 0.98, the study demonstrates a strong relationship between the independent variables (QCO downtime and improper line balancing downtime) and the dependent variable (productivity per head).
The findings suggest that by implementing Lean Management practices and addressing key productivity inhibitors, RMG factories can achieve substantial improvements in efficiency and profitability. The study provides valuable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers seeking to enhance productivity in the RMG industry and similar manufacturing sectors.

Designing and Sustaining Large-Scale Value-Centered Agile Ecosystems (powered...Alexey Krivitsky
Is Agile dead? It depends on what you mean by 'Agile'. If you mean that the organizations are not getting the promised benefits because they were focusing too much on the team-level agile "ways of working" instead of systemic global improvements -- then we are in agreement. It is a misunderstanding of Agility that led us down a dead-end. At Org Topologies, we see bright sparks -- the signs of the 'second wave of Agile' as we call it. The emphasis is shifting towards both in-team and inter-team collaboration. Away from false dichotomies. Both: team autonomy and shared broad product ownership are required to sustain true result-oriented organizational agility. Org Topologies is a package offering a visual language plus thinking tools required to communicate org development direction and can be used to help design and then sustain org change aiming at higher organizational archetypes.
