3. ONE OF THE PIONEERS OF PLANETARY GEAR
TECHNOLOGY IN INDIA.
•The company is engaged in manufacturing and supply of Bevel Gear Boxes.
•Planetary Gear Boxes, Worm Gear Boxes, Mechanical Power Transmission Systems, Planetary Speed
Reducers, Industrial Gear Boxes, Planetary Winches, as well as Geared motors, Electric Motors and Slew
Bearings.
•It offers a wide range of gearboxes handling the power inputs up to 1250 kW. The speed reduction ratios
are up to 100,000:1. The weights of the gear boxes range from 150 gms to 43,000 Kg (single gear box
weight).
•The sectors served by the company are Steel, Chemical, Textile, Printing & packaging, Mining & earth
moving , Wind mills, Machine tools etc.
4. PLANETARY GEARBOXES
Planetary Gearboxes:
consists of three major components:
• Sun gear
• Planet gear
• Ring gear
The sun gear is meshed around with the planet gears, which in turn are meshed with ring
gear. Planet gears are connected to each other by a carrier, which helps them to rotate around
the sun gear
5. ADVANTAGES OF PLANETARY SYSTEM OVER
HELICAL GEARBOX:
•They are compact and take less space and are light weight, as the load is shared
between the planet gears.
•The noise and vibration is reduced as the load is shared. This also increases
efficiency
•Since the shafts are inline and concentric, bending moment is absent.
•The manufacturing of these components is relatively cheaper due to smaller size
as compared to parallel axis gearboxes.
6. DISADVANTAGES:
•The gear system is complex and needs precision manufacturing
•Teeth ratios are specific and assemble is according to them.
•Calculations of efficiency are a bit difficult.
7. APPLICATION EXAMPLES FOR PLANETARY
GEARS
•Back gauge drive for press brakes. Press brakes are used for bending sheet metal.
•IML robot. In the in-mould labelling process (IML), pre-cut plastic films are inserted into an
injection mould using a handling device.
•Axis drive for laser cutting machines.
