The world is being changed fundamentally by AI and we are constantly faced with newspaper headlines about its harmful effects. However, there is also the potential to both ameliorate theses harms and use the new abilities of AI to transform society for the good. Can you make the difference?
2. Actor Criteria
• When deciding the kind of actors we would use in the video we had
to take into account the criteria already set out based on our
previous decisions. For example, choosing a song that has been
performed and recorded with male vocals limits us, within reason,
to predominantly male cast. Especially if we use the same actors for
the performance and narrative. That being said, because our
chosen song is performed by a band if we decide to have band
members besides the lead singer we can be more liberal with the
genders of those.
• Ideally we would like our actor’s to be of a younger age; preferably
late teens or early 20’s. This is because we would like the actors to
reflect the ages of most alternative bands. Also, we know more
younger people that would be willing to participate than we do
adults so there's an element of practicality at work as well. We will
give the actor the lyrics of the song prior to filming so they have a
knowledge of what to they will be lip syncing.
4. Narrative
• Our narrative shall be based around the morning routine of our
lead singer. Due to the upbeat nature of the song, we have decided
to make the video very optimistic in nature. We aim to visualise one
of those mornings where everything is ‘going your way’. We will
attempt to convey this through the use of high key, natural lighting
and exaggerated gestures and facial expressions.
• The video will progress through the various states of readiness
during the period of time between waking up and going out. A
notoriously time of day that is dreaded more often than not. The
twist being that we will defy audience expectations by using upbeat
music and have our video reflecting that. The idea is to point out
that something we may deem miserable or a struggle is often a
mere reflection of our perspective of it. A perspective that can be
changed.
5. Setting
• Because of our narrative choice to set the
video during someone’s morning routine the
setting will take place predominantly in a
house and the various rooms which occupy it.
• The home we have in mind as an abundance
of high key, natural lighting which is incredibly
useful when filming
6. Camera Angles
• We want to use a variety of camera angles in our video so our scenes don’t
stagnate or become uninteresting from an oversaturation of similar angles
• ECU and close ups will be utilised to show emotion in the character’s faces
as well as to make it obvious to the audience who the lead singer is.
• There will be a lot of tracking shots in order to effectively document the
kinetic pace of the transition scenes. When there is a lot of movement
involved the angles will be wider, but when there is activity that needs to
happen outside the scene we will use a more compressed frame in order to
hide it.
• Over the shoulder shots can also help in conveying a sense of movement
• Mid shots will also be used alongside close ups to give a sense of scene and
context
7. Editing
• One cool transition we plan to incorporate at least once in
the video involves the camera tracking a person until an
object blocks him from view and when we see him again
the scene has changed. This presents the illusion that the
camera has continued tracking uninterrupted but gives us a
chance to change the scene. This creates a smooth filming
affect.
• Another editing technique that we would like to try is
putting something we’ve filmed in reverse order to portray
the illusion of objects moving with no external influence.
• We would also like to make use of slow motion as it is
effective as a cinematic effect. However, getting a camera
with the ability to film in slow motion may be difficult.
