Pre Lim assessment

Planning
As a group we worked well together, I believe our planning included all aspects such as framing,
visuals , sound and props which overall helped when we got to the actual filming making it quicker
and more efficient however Ibelieve that what we could have improved was thinking about our
location more in depth thinking about lighting aspects in our specific location. One scene was a bit
dark as there was no light in that section which made us redo several shots , I also think our time
management was not good as we carried on filming in the time we should have been editing. we
didn’t require many props so we didn’t have a problem with this aspect of filming.
Overall I think our story board could have been more in detail which would have saved a lot of time .
Camera
We used a variety of different camera techniques to make our video link with the narrative. The first
clip was a panning shot to show the location of where Shaun is at and his destination ,A low angle
shot was used to give a birds eye view of the door opening. As a group we have come to the
conclusion that the tracking of the feet was irrelevant which then let into a mid shot to show the
audience who the character is and where he is finally coming to a shot reverse shot/over the
shoulder ,180degree rule shot to show there is a conversation being taken place.
Overall the framing was good as we didn’t encounter any major problems when editing, however as
our story board was not as detailed as it should have been we wasted a lot of time on figuring out
framing when we where actually meant to be filming.
Another issue I encountered was when we filmed tracking of the feet this clip was very shaky as it
was taken hand held to improve this we could have slid the camera on wheels while it was tracking
the feet walking ,we could have also added grid lines so the feet where centred into the camera.
Finally the last camera issue we faced was shaky camera as the last 4 shots were not filmed on a
tripod but filmed hand held.
Lighting
Unfortunately we had issues with lighting in the conversation scene
,the location we was filming at had no windows facing one side which
created a dull atmosphere this meant Shaun “person 1” (who was
facing towards the light) was seen more lighter than Regina“Person 2”
(who was facing away from light) to improve this we should have
analysed the location and focused on details such as
lighting,sound,mise-en-scene.
Editing
Overall we used a lot of quick cuts however one scene we used editing
specifically was the match on action of when Shaun was walking in the
door when editing this scene we found a glitch which took a lot of time
to edit out and make it flow . the shot reverse shot regarding the
conversation between Regina and Shaun should have been filmed with
a tripod instead of free hand as the the overall outcome of the clip is
shaky I also think the 180 degree rule was taken with bad lighting as
Shaun was brighter than Regina and also more in focus so I was seen
blurry.
Mise-en-scene
As our clip was not too detailed we didn’t require a certain dress code ,
our task was also set in a school which meant that props were
extremely easy to get hold of . Overall as a group we did not face any
problems to do with this aspect .
Sound
Sound was a major problem of ours as we were filming in the common
room (an area where many students go to socialise) the pupils were
constantly talking which was often off putting and made us redo a lot
of scenes ,we also has to tell the room to be quiet all the time which
was time consuming. To catch the diegetic sounds we had to be
extremely quiet and the camera has to be closer to the noise.
Overall
As a group we all worked well together as we were not shy to criticise
and everyone's input was heard, however I feel like we could have
rotated roles as everyone has their own position which could have
helped as it could have allowed more creativity.
