Genre: the genre I have chosen to use is a Horror. For my trailer I want to do
supernatural horror movie as looking at my format research this was my favourite
type of horror that I have analysed. It also interests me and so creating a trailer in
which I am interested in will be easier for me to create. I also have a variety of
ideas to use for a supernatural horror movie.
Target Audience: my target audience is going to be for 15
year olds and above. This is because from some of my
focus group research I have found that people feel that 15
year olds are more mature than they used to be and so a
15 age rating is best suited for my trailer. The content is
also going to be suited for the age range.
The main idea for my trailer is to introduce the setting in the woods but then it carries
on into a house. I aim to use a key as a main prop within my trailer and this is going to
be the object to cause all of the supernatural elements in the trailer. The key is going
to be found in the woods by a few girls and they are going to take it home. But when
picking up the object, they see two girls in the distance who are ghostly. After this
moment every time the key is mentioned the girls appear suddenly and then
disappear.
From then on the girls take the key home with them and want to find out what it
opens; but the key brings bad luck to them and every thing starts going wrong with
items smashing and the ghostly figures following them. Towards the end of the film
there is going to be a scene where a supernatural element spells out on a surface
where the key is leading them to, but the audience are not to assume that this is
where the key fits. The end of the trailer will finish with a clip of them visiting the
tower and the ghostly figures standing outside the front door of the
house/tower/building.
I aim to use 3 main character
actors and these are going to be
three girls. I am then going to
have identical twins for the
ghostly figures.
From previous productions of Horror movies under the supernatural
heading, I have discovered that the trailers are quite short with lots of
short, quick clips that jump from one another quickly. The music also
seems to get louder and more intense as the trailer tails on and also as
more activity begins to take place. Looking at my format research and
previous trailers for the type of horror I am aiming to create, there is a
consistent theme with the supernatural elements and activity that
happens. This is that there is always something which smashes or moves
that doesn’t not physically have the ability to move. I am going to use this
idea within my trailer as it follows with the typical norms of a
supernatural horror movie. I am also following the norms of a typical
supernatural horror movie as in horror movies they always have an object
or a person which is a catalyst for the supernatural activity that happens
in the film. I have taken this idea and I am using the object of a key for
this object as a catalyst to the activity. I also aim to edit my clips so that
they are short and sharp cutting from one to another quickly and building
suspense.
Linking my ideas to theories, I have chose to go along with Angela
McRobbie’s theory. This theory explains that the women of characters are
usually presented as weak, innocent and vulnerable. I have chosen to use
female actresses to include in my trailer so that it follows this theory. I have
also chosen two girls to be the ghostly figures as young girls are seen to be
more vulnerable and innocent. This idea will make the viewer wonder what
happened to the two innocent girls for them to now look how they do.
Linking the trailer to Propp’s theory you could say
that the two ghostly figures of the girls and the prop
of a key are going to be the villains as they are
causing supernatural activity which happens in the
trailer. There are no hero’s as such revealed in the
trailer or any other characters.
My unique selling point is that I am going to follow the norms of a typical
supernatural horror movie with having an object in which creates the
supernatural activity; however this object will be very different from any
other object in any other horror movies. It will also be an object in which
spells a message to the audience and is not only a catalyst for strange
activity. As I am using the object of a key; the message that it spells to the
audience is that the key must lead to somewhere. This is another aspect that
the audience take into consideration as to where does this key lead to and
they want to find out more. When the supernatural activity starts to happen
with this key, there is more in which the audience becomes curious about
and this key becomes the main focus of the trailer.
