Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

• The front cover will include a main image. The masthead will sit
in the top left of the page, above the main image. The cover lines
will line the sides of the page, listing off the contents of the
magazine.
• The double page spread of the magazine will include a tiered list
of local venues and some of the artists that frequent them.
• The magazine will feature adverts for Rock gigs in North London.
• It will also contain interviews with local artists.
14. Article Ideas
• Reviews -
• The magazine will contain reviews from fans who
frequent the venues mentioned, giving readers and
inside view of the quality of each venue and the music
present.

15. Target Audience
• The magazine will primarily target people of ages 50+, living in
North London
• The secondary target audience will be a younger age
demographic of 20-35, as younger audiences tend to enjoy the
genre as well. The magazines price of £4/5.99 will mean that it
will be targeted towards the middle class.
• As for the tertiary target audience, the magazine will target
any and all who enjoy the Rock genre regardless of their
gender, race, age, class or ethnicity.
16. Resources and Personnel
• In order to create this magazine I will need;
• access to a computer with Photoshop installed.

• A tripod to hold the camera
• I will need models to appear on the front cover of the magazine, with
more appearing within.

17. Marketing Methods
• The magazine will be advertised through;
• Posters at Rock venues in North London
• Social Media (Especially for the secondary and
tertiary TA)

offered at popular venues, for first time readers,
through limited time codes.
20. Sample Materials (Title with font)
This font is similar to the one used in the logo for the rock band “Iron Maiden”, and so will make it
clear to the readers what genre the magazine is focusing on

The Masthead uses colours that are strongly linked the genre of rock, those being red, black and grey.
