Music video pitch Piers Van Looy Pitch 2: Yatahaze
Song The song I will be using is by the famous band Dredg, and is called “Yatahze” The song is of the “Rock/Indie” genre It features the usual Drums/Bass/Guitar/Vocals combination
Narrative/Performance The video will mostly be live performance, however the performance itself will give some narrative due to its unusual nature. The individual musicians will not be playing together, but in separate locations This allows me to create an interesting split-screen effect which will be very effective and easy to do
Narrative/Performance I will shoot each of the musicians playing the song separately This way I will have 4 versions of the live performance, all different instruments and locations I will then join these together in my editing to create the illusion of the band members playing together
Narrative/Performance The narrative will involve each of the band members, getting ready to play at a live gig This will incorporate the same editing techniques as the live performance, allowing me to blend seamlessly live performance with narrative.
Narrative/Performance This type of shooting/editing allows for an easy video shoot, as I can shoot the individual band members one at a time, and do not have to worry about schedules or transport or expenses as much as usual
Audience This video will be geared towards a teenage audience typically between the age ranges of 13 to 20. As it is a generic rock/indie song, it will appeal to a large amount of teenagers, and therefore maintain a large viewership
Equipment/Software I will be using a HD tape camcorder, tripod and other video equipment, and copying the footage into adobe after effects and color in order to apply filters and effects, then proceed to edit the footage in final cut pro and Sony Vegas 8, as this combination of software packages allows for the most professional final cut.
Locations/Setting The guitar will be shot on any street outside, the more bland and depressing, the better, as it will create a juxtaposition of the guitar player, and the back ground The drums will be shot in the drummers room, as this will create the illusion (accompanied by the introduction sequence) that he is simply practicing
Location/setting The bassist will also, like the guitarist, be practicing outside, however not in the same location. The vocalist will change position, and will vary from schools to fields, to the gig itself, etc.
