2. Treatment
Working Title: When in London
Synopsis: Follows the lives of a group of young adults living in London as
they face dramas related to friendships, work and their love lives. The main
group of characters include 8 typical young adults who are all connected via
friendships or relationships. As the show develops there is insight into the
secrets and scandals within this group and how it affects their lives.
The programme will begin with shorts clips of all of the characters discussing
the latest goings on and generally giving the audience an insight to all their
current situations which may be reflected in other aspects of the
programme.
It would then go on to present how the characters live their lives faced with
whichever issues they may be experiencing. Typically, it would end with
some sort of party or situation where all or most of them will appear at the
same place and some sort of conflict may occur. At the end of each
programme there will be short character interviews in order to convey their
thoughts and feelings towards the situations being presented.
3. Format:
• 30 Minute structured reality programme
• High Definition (1920 x 1080) 16:9 ASPECT RATIO
• Shot on Nikin D3100
• Edited on Final Cut Pro/iMovie
Estimated Duration: Two minutes and three website pages
Intended Audience: Predonminantly female, 16-30 years old, ABC
Style: The genre is structured reality, and the programme will portray sometimes
quite serious issues in a lighthearted fashion. This will be achieved using
loveable, relatable characters. It is influenced mainly by the programmes that I
found to be most popular in my research: Made in Chelsea and The Only Way is
Essex as it follows a similar structure, however the aspects which make it unique
are: a more predominant insight into the characters work lives, a younger
cast, character interviews.
Rationale: This product reflects current media trends as it focuses largely on
everyday issues and the themes are often more serious than those that appear in
other programmes of this genre. Therefore this programme is unique as it allows
the audience to relate to the characters rather than simply being entertained or
admiring them. However it is done so in a style which still makes the show
enjoyable and does not take away from the lighthearted tone that makes this
genre so popular.
4. Feasibility: Feasibility is a key issue in the production of this programme as the location is
not easily accessible to everybody involved in the production. Therefore I have considered
using establishing shots of London in order to create the scene and then doing the general
filming in unfamiliar parts of a more accessible location such as Birmingham. This will also
improve feasibility of our budget as we would not need to fund a large number of people
travelling to London.
