1. In what ways does
your media product
use, develop or
challenge forms and
conventions of real
media products?
2.
3. The first shot, establishes the
setting and gives a clear
appearance as to when the
piece is set – The not too
distant future- This is implied
through a mix between a
normal and modern/futuristic
style for example, the
minimalistic set and the blue,
cold lighting.
This type of setting is like any
future film - e.g. Blade
Runner which offers a similar
vibe to suggest a realistically
possible future.
4. This shot moved back and
forth, copied from sequences
possibly viewed in something
like CSI and added a sci/fi Esc
vibe to the sequence - example
of other film that does this –
Also, by having a pretty
intimate picture, it was clear to
see the drained look on the
exposition boy’s face, created
by use of white power on his
face and lips which made him
appear ill and a darker power
that was dabbed underneath
the eyes to produce dark
circles.
This eerie look added to the
tension of the play as one
would ask themselves ‘What is
happening to this children?
Similarly, in THX 1138, the
drained look is portrayed
through the same makeup
technique.
5. This shots shows pat
of the corporate
advert we created as a
group, which displays
more about our
storyline – A rich
blood donating
organisation goes too
far. The design of the
main advert was made
to show the idea of
the business and
included a patronizing
voice over.
This corporate idea
was influenced and
could be compared to
by ‘Robocop’
6. This birds eye view shot
was to make the audience
question whether he was
alive or not. It is very
dreamlike and it starts
further away, like an out of
body experience, and then
zooms closer into his face.
We used a genie to take
this shot. Which is a
popular device in many
films as it creates the effect
seen when someone dies
t=and their soul leaves their
body.
7. This shot is the one that
assures the audience he
is still alive the moment
he opens his eyes.
We deliberately use an
extreme close up on his
face to give an awkward
and uncomfortable feel
to add to the eerie
atmosphere.
This is similar to the
scene in Blade 2 during
the opening when the
man is sat in the chair
8. This shot shows the
audience the character is
lying down and is clearly
about to have blood
extracted. From this angle,
the scene becomes very
intimate as one may feel like
they are actually in the
room, possibly from the
perspective of a doctor.
Also the fact he is lying
down displays he is out of
control and therefore
possibly of a lower status in
society back up by the
costume choice.
Similarly in Blade 2 costume
defines status.
9. This is basically just a
close up of the previous
shot. However is it more
gruesome and gives the
storyline clarity as it
displays the evil nature of
the money making.
This shot then, from the
realisation this boy will
die creates sympathy
from the audience..
We also sympathise as his
lower status shown
foreshadows that the
death of young children is
imminent in this story
and shows the conflict of
genrations like many
10. This picture is pretty
much the same as the
one shown earlier.
However, this shows
the opposite – his eyes
start to close,
conveying his weakness
and that he is possibly
about to die.
This shot is also the
final shot before the
title appears. Meaning
the death would leave
and effect on the
audience as the title
sequence concludes.
11. Most stylistic pieces such as ours
feature shots like this throughout
their films in order to give off more
of a suited mood to the piece.
We all decided to use this artsy shot
in the sequence as we liked the
dripping blood and how it fitted the
genre very well combining horror
and artistic shooting.
We achieved this shot by zooming in
on squeezing a fake blood bag and
loosing it and having a backlight to
make it appear more abnormal and
sinister.
Many arty style films and TV shoes I
watch such as Dexter do this.
