History On The Origin Of State Charters Essay
Brief History on the Origin of State Charters in California
California has followed the steps of many American states by committing its efforts on ensuring
educational developments through improved governance systems. In the last half a decade or so, there
have emerged diverse levels of studies in California State majorly because of three reasons which
include several legislative practices, institutions, and participation of state agencies. The California
Educational Commission was created as early as 1899 with a number of 70 members to study the state
s educational program with an effort of improving it. Of much interest was the recommendation that
legislation had to be twisted to form a uniform board for the governing of normal colleges and
universities in California. This issue resulted in the formulation of a law that placed the normal
colleges and universities in California under the State Board of Education.
A legislation in the year 1992 found it necessary to have schools and authorized their creation. The
legislation also came up with requirements for appeal signature and as a result a county appeals
process was created and whose charter renewal came after every five years. The legislation also made
clear the grounds for which the charters could be considered null and void. The flexibility of the
legislation allowed there to be an amendment in 1998, which brought about a change in the
requirements for petition signature and gave the mandate of revoking any charter to

From Liberation To Conquest Chapter 1 Summary
Since its creation, the causes of the rise of the US empire has created controversy among historians.
This raised questions such as: what role did race play in the creation of the American empire. Nell
Irvin Painter, Walter L. Williams, Paul A. Kramer, and Bonnie M. Miller are historians that identify
race as a crucial element in the U.S. empire building. They choose to focus on different aspects and
perspectives, and how racial ideas were involved in the Philippines during the Spanish American War.
By exploring this specific aspect, the four historians sought out to answer the questions that previous
historians could not.
In chapter 5 of her 1987 novel Standing At Armageddon , Painter reflected on the Spanish American
War, its aftermath, and the imperialism in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Miller explores the basis of the overwhelming support for imperialism in the Caribbeans and Pacific,
showing how the nation s leading media makers editorialists, cartoonists, filmmakers, photographers,
and stage performers captured the public s interest in the Cuban crisis with heart rending depictions of
Cuban civilians, particularly women, brutalized by bloodthirsty Spanish pirates. She asserts that As
instruments of persuasion, images communicate differently than words do, reach broader audiences,
and may or may not be overly political. Similar to Painter, Kramer, and Williams, Miller alludes to
and comments about The White Man s Burden . She proclaims that Americans leading cartoonists
constituted a white Anglo Saxon male figure of the empire and subordinated his counterparts through
visual gradations of age, gender, and color. Through the use of images and cartoons, Miller examines
the shifting media portrayals of U.S. actions for the duration of the conflict, from liberation to
conquest. She reveals how the media capitalized on the public s thirst for drama, action, and spectacle
and adapted to emerging imperial

Strategic And Financial Objectives Of Sainsbury
Investment Ratios:
Sainsbury s 2013 report states that maintaining a strong / efficient capital base will be key to fulfilling
their strategic and financial objectives. This is basically the shareholder s initial equity / monies used
to buy shares in the business plus any retained earnings. The capital base is a useful a benchmark for
measuring returns relative to initial outlay investment (Investopedia, 2014).
Sainsbury s manages its capital structure by buying/selling capital, issuing additional shares or buying
back shares, varying its debt portfolio, adapting dividend payment schedules and leasing capital
(land/property).
Earning targets involve covering the underlying earnings for the ordinary dividend at a minimum of
1.5 times and increasing cover in the medium term to 2 times.
The Dividend Payout Ratio shows Sainsbury s holding quite a consistent return for shareholders.
Indeed citing a 5.27% increase on 2012/2013 to 50.16 (2013). These were reduced by 10.91% by the
2013/2014 trading period, closing at 44.69. Similarly Tesco Dividend Payout Ratio figures suggest a
level period from 2009 2012 at 41.93. The ratio figure rose exponentially, by 2253.11% to 986.66 by
2013, due largely to the huge 95.74% reduction in profit for the year of just £120M. Evidence that the
situation is recovering somewhat is the published increase in profit of 708.33% to close at £970M in
2013. Further subsequent reductions in the 2013/2014 period of 87.58% closes with the ratio specified

Richard Nixon And The Watergate Scandal
Richard Nixon and the Watergate Scandal Richard Nixon was a widely accepted president before the
Watergate break in which changed American views on government forever. The Watergate Scandal
started when five men, Frank Sturgis, Bernard Barker, Virgilio Gonzalez, James McCord, and Eugenio
Martinez known as CREEP, broke into the Watergate complex in order to bug the office with
microphones to hear the plans for the upcoming election. However this plan backfired when the five
men were arrested leading investigations to trace back to the White House and later President Nixon.
Watergate was the largest government scandal in American history, affecting the lives of Americans,
their trust in government, and forced the only resignation of a U.S. President. ... Show more content

After the events that took place and Nixon s resignation, a massive trend of distrust in the government
began. Even today a wide majority of people still do not trust the American government, this is one of
the greatest effects the scandal had on the United States. One law that was created due to impact of
Watergate was the Sunshine Act, the Sunshine Act is a law that requires government agencies to be
open and public to Americans. Another law that was passed was the Ethics in Government Act of
1978, what this law stated was that public officials had to make financial disclosures and former
employment public, and led to the creation of Office of Government Ethics an executive agency
responsible for issuing rules and regulations about ethical conduct and financial disclosure, providing
training in ethics, monitoring the ethics of practices in departments and agencies, and giving guidance
on matters of ethics. (USLegal). At the end of the whole scandal many government officials had been
jailed, but there were three major figures involved in the scandal known as the Big Three . John N.
Mitchell, John D. Ehrlichman, and H.R. Haldeman, convicted of conspiring to obstruct justice and
bribing the burglars to keep quiet were sentenced to two and a half years in prison for their
involvement in the scandal. Finally the last change that came of watergate was President Gerald Ford

which was advertised in seek career website on 14th September 2017.
I am a graduate from Curtin University who completed Master of Health Administration. While I was
doing my postgraduate studies, I decided to do my dissertation in the field of Economics, focusing on
Health Economics. The topic of my postgraduate dissertation was Trends in income related health
inequalities in Australia . The source of the data which used for the study was Household, Income and
Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) survey results from 2001 (Wave 1) to 2014 (Wave 14). The

The current research programs in the Centre for Health Economic at Monash University took my
interest as the university is providing a wide range of research areas in the field of Health Economics.
Furthermore, the researches are mainly centred on economic evaluation, health outcomes and
performance in the health care system which help me to get a comprehensive knowledge and
understanding of micro econometrics and other statistical methods, while focusing on Health
Economics. In addition to my postgraduate experience, during my volunteer work at King Edward
Memorial Hospital and Multiple Sclerosis Society of Western Australia, I have acquired experience in
designing questionnaires in relation to ongoing health programs and analysed the surveys data
focusing on pre and post health outcomes. All these academic and extracurricular activities enhance
my interest in Health Economics and therefore I am willing to go for further studies to have a sound
knowledge of in this specific field.
I believe that Monash University is the best University for this research as it has an outstanding record
for research programs not only in Australia but also across the globe. Also, studying in one of
Australia s leading research universities will help to enrich my knowledge, particularly in my desired
field and professionally outgrowth thereby contribute to the development in the health care system

Canada s Health Care System
Canada s health care system is one that formed in the 1950s and 60s, also known as Medicare. It is a
system that Canada as a nation often takes pride in, as it is predominantly public with basic health care
is available to all citizens, and has some aspects of the private system incorporated as well. Health
care often occurs in terms that compare public versus private health care systems. After a thorough
analysis of private health care associated with neo conservatism, and public health care associated
with welfare state liberalism, I assert that the more beneficial option for Canada would be public
health care. Public health care is very accessible, and universal, therefore allowing the individual to
have access to health care nation wide. As well, it is significantly more affordable than private health
care when concerning the average Canadian citizen. Although, it can be argued that private healthcare
is a better option for Canada because it would improve the quality of health care, offering quicker
access it, and it reduces the amount of stress put on the upper class in paying for public health care.
However, privatization acts as a barrier to providing universal and quality health care on an equitable
basis.
To understand why public health care is a more fitting choice for Canada, one must understand the
relationship between the welfare state and public health care, and why liberals advocate for public
health care. In Canada, public health care is a system of which

The Extent to which You Think the Gothic Novel Represents...
To what extent do you think that the Gothic novel represents recognisably modern anxieties?
Since the 1800 s, vampires have often found their way into literature, legends, and popular culture.
The vampire s first appearance in Gothic fiction came from John Polidori s publication, The Vampyre
in 1819, and from then the fascination of the vampire and gothic literature as a whole grew and can be
viewed as a commentary on the period of time in which it was written. The strong image of the
vampire is a strong metaphor for communicating the zeitgeist of the time. By analysing Bram Stoker
s, Dracula (1897) and Sheridan Le Fanu s, Carmilla (1872), as both novels are very important as they
both helped mainstream vampire literature and created characters that have remained popular for over
a century. An examination into these texts and the significance of the vampire on modern anxieties and
anxieties of the time can be understood. In order to do this an analysis will be placed upon the main
themes within both texts, such as degeneration, patriarchy, gender and class.
The use of vampires within Carmilla and Dracula can be seen as significant in representing
colonialism and the worries of degeneration that were established towards the Fin de siècle of the
nineteenth century. Both texts present the hierarchy of civilisations through binary opposites such as
the West being presented as good and light, and the unknown and mysterious East being described as
negative, mysterious and

Unit 217 Organise and Report Data Essay
Understand How to Organise and Report Data That Has Been Researched. 1.1 Describe different ways
of organising data that has been researched. Data is a group of information that are used for various
purposes like analysis, evaluations and to arrive at certain results or conclusions. Data reporting is a
process where data is extracted form a source or many sources and then converted into a format that
can be used for a purpose. It is usually presented in the form of a report in tables, charts, statistics, and
graphs or on spread sheets etc. This data may be used to arrive at important decisions within the
organisation or with external organisations. So the data report has to be produced in such a way that it
meets the aims and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.3 Describe the purpose of presenting data to the agreed format and within the agreed timescale. The
value and benefits of agreeing the format and deadline for data is that everybody knows what they are
doing and when it is due. If you have been given a task to complete, with details of how it should be
done and when it needs to be completed by and there is a different member of the team who cannot
complete their task in till you have completed yours and you do not get it finished within the time
frame and/or it has not be formatted in the agreed way, then you will hold up the project. This will not
show you in a professional light. You will be considered unreliable, non productive, and could
potentially affect your employability. It also avoids work having to be redone at the last minute if the
format is agreed beforehand. Be Able To Organise Data 2.1 Organise data so that it can be reported
Well organized file names and folder structures make it easier to find and keep track of data files. A
system needs to be practical and used consistently. Without organization, you cannot report data
effectively. Good file names can provide useful cues to the content and status of a file, can uniquely
identify a file and can help in classifying files.

The ritual situations that play a role in this case on one of the most socially celebrated holidays is
called Christmas. Ritual situation is a consumer behavior term that describes a consumer s shopping
pattern. This traditional Christmas holiday season is a major one for retailers because consumers make
a lot of purchases and retailers increase their sales. What motivates the consumer is the stimulus that
activates the what, when, and where of how a consumer purchases merchandise. Christmas Creep is a

Target is using a multi channel marketing strategy to attract consumers who choose to do their
Christmas shopping early. Some of the multi marketing strategies that Target uses are by stocking and
displaying some Christmas merchandise in the store before the holiday season even begins. Also, by
creating an atmosphere of using different displays and creating a certain mood of happiness during the
Christmas season. Target seeks an emotional appeal to the customers. They start advertising Christmas
merchandise by sending out emails and direct mailings, offering merchandise for sale to only
customers who have certain preferences about shopping early before the holiday begins.
By participating in Christmas Creep, the marketers serve as the problem solver to the consumer
problem by making merchandise available through the store and e commerce to satisfy the consumers
needs and want to buy goods early. During the holiday season, consumers normally purchase gifts for
family and friends. Since not all consumers purchase their items within the holiday season, marketers
use the Christmas Creep to get early bird sales an early start to ensure that the maximum amounts of

Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Psychology
In the textbook it describes how Freud believed your conscious thoughts were only the tip of the
iceberg when studying the brain. Freud believed there were three levels of awareness. The first level
is, conscious level these are thoughts we are aware of in the moment (Cervone Pervin, 2013). The
second level is the preconscious level, which are contents we could easily become aware of (Cervone
Pervin, 2013). The third level is the unconscious level. This level is mental contents of the mind that
we are unaware and cannot become aware of. These thoughts can only be accessed under special
circumstances (Cervone Pervin, 2013). According to Freud, the reason we were not able to access
unconscious thoughts is because they are anxiety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led Freud to write The Interpretation of Dreams.
When studying dreams, Freud found that dreams are very strange. I have found this also in my
lifetime. I have always been fascinated by dreams. As a kid I would wake up wanting to replay my
dream on a display screen. In the mornings, I would be so excited to explain what happened in my
dreams the night before to my family members. I wanted so badly for them to understand how crazy
they were, but most of the time they were too bizarre for them to understand so they gave up listening.
Unlike most of my friends and family my dreams were so vivid that I could almost always remember
them. In high school, I began to think that because my dreams were so vivid, they had to mean
something. I began trying to interpret my dreams. If there were a symbol that stuck out in my dream
all night, like a snake, I would try to look up the meaning. Or if there were a certain act I was
performing in my dream, like swimming in the ocean, I would look it up. At first, I was looking up the
meanings on dream interpretation websites. Then, I ended up getting a book. Now I know that thanks
to Freud, I am able to interpret my own dreams. I remember specifically, my senior year of high
school after my mom passed away, she would be in my dreams. They were vivid memories of her and
I, the dreams always felt so real. In the beginning after her passing, I would have dreams
consecutively with her in it. As months passed

Due: March 28, 2007 Bradbury Thompson (1911 – 1995) is often times called the father of modern
design and considered a pioneer among graphic designers (Father). As early as high school, Bradbury
showed a keen talent in the field of graphic design. He jumpstarted his career when working in New
York; and from that point he undertook many projects that made him famous. Among those projects
includes designing stamps for the postal office, redesigning World Book Encyclopedia, Chicago Daily

several awards and publications (Hoffman). In 1980 a second version was published. This second
version was smaller and was targeted to sell to families. Of course Bradbury s success was not
overlooked. In 1950, Bradbury received the National Society of Art Directors of the Year award. In
1975 he received AIGA Gold Medal award. And finally, in 1977 Bradbury was placed into the Art
Director s Hall of Fame (Pioneer). As for my personal thoughts; besides being extremely impressed by
Bradbury Thompson s success I find it very interesting as to how broad his different work reached. It
really goes to show that graphic design can lead one to several different types of work. After reading
up on Bradbury Thompson I can only be overtaken by motivation and excitement in hoping that my
career can lead me to as many exciting projects and places as Bradbury Thompson s did. As for
Bradbury s work, he truly makes several masterpieces and deserves all the respect, awards, and

in making the English language easier to understand and read. I am interested to see the bible he

Analysis Of Sleepwalking Defense By Lindsay Lyon
After reading Lindsay Lyon s article about sleepwalking defense , it s clear this is a controversial pled.
The thought of being able to do anything in your sleep is an outrageous concept to grasp, let alone use
as a defense in a court room. Out of seven different cases in this article, there s only two that I could
come to terms with. State v. Bradley and Pennsylvania v. Ricksgers both involved the murder of their
significant others with a single gunshot during an unconscious state. In my opinion, these cases are
most relevant to the sleepwalking defense because it s more believable to think one action took place
before someone waking up then multiple actions. The Regina v. Parks case was a far stretch to try and
use sleepwalking defense.

The Great Commission Analysis
From the genesis of creation, God s mission is to motivate his creation (people) to work with the
resources he provides to bring forth new and good things and establish an order to a chaotic and
broken world. In fact, the world that God created is good, and when humans begin to work alongside
God in creation, things become very good (Genesis 1:31). Unfortunately, because of the fall of
humanity, God s creation strays away and falls short of God s original intent. As a result, the human
condition swings on a pendulum from good too bad while God s continues to reconcile humanity. God
first chose the nation of Israel, then sent Jesus and Jesus subsequent death and resurrection to continue
God s reconciliation in the world today. Additionally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In each of these occurrences of the Greek word pas, there s some kind of categorical limitation.

mission with this understanding. I join God s mission with the lens seeing that every creature needs
hear the good news of Jesus saving work in the world. The importance of the word all should must be
accentuated in joining God in God s mission. My understanding is sculpted in my personal testimony.
Five generations before me, my family was brought to America as slaves. They labored in fields and
experienced less than human treatment and one can only imagine how hardened one s heart must have
been in light of the atrocities that brought them to America. My great great great grandfather Hope
Quick was one of those slaves on a plantation in Bennettsville, South Carolina. One night after
working in the fields, someone invited him a camp meeting where slaves were allowed to meet to hear
the gospel. In spite of his station as a slave, Bishop Francis Asbury preached that Jesus died so that all
might be saved. In that moment, he begin to cry and even though he was a slave he accepted the
gospel message and became a Christian; a follower of the way. It is through that missionary who
joined God in God s mission that the Quick family and future generations came to know Christ. This
experience profoundly shaped my understanding that all means all. My missiology is immersed in this
concept because scripture clearly says all. There are no limitations to God s saving grace and that
grace is for

Abstract
Much like the telephone or the automobile, the internet has dramatically changed the way people work
and live. Unlike the telephone or the automobile, though, the internet has single handedly led to the
creation of a relatively free space, where people around the world gather to share ideas, collaborate,
mingle, and invent a future with new possibilities that no one knew they needed today. From its
humble beginning as a relatively inexpensive lab project aimed at improving workflows to its rise
against tyranny in world affairs, a worldwide obsession with the internet has gone viral and will likely
sweep non discriminatorily to all parts of the globe. As this loosely regulated environment, also known
as Cyberspace, the Net or the Web , matures; it is the civic duty of its users to ensure that the door to
the information gateway remains open and accessible as it continues to disrupt all industry and
influence all aspects of human conditions. Introduction
The worldwide use of the internet is practically indispensible. Yet, its origin only dates back to the
early 1950s. No invention in history has grown so fast to touch so many lives. In fact, neither the
telephone nor the automobile nor the printing press has the impact of the internet on the human
civilization as a

Reflection in Iris Murdoch s Under the Net
Reflection in Iris Murdoch s Under the Net
In her novel Under the Net, Iris Murdoch examines the nature of reality through the thoughts and
relationships of the novel s main character, Jake Donaghue. A recurring theme in the novel is the idea
of reflection, in both senses of the word: Jake is continually thinking about ideas, and he is also
forever trying to see himself as he really is. Many of the instances of reflection in the novel occur near
rivers or are connected in some way to currents. As we shall see, Iris Murdoch uses reflections in
Under the Net to represent the mirror opposites of reality and appearance. The Novel As Reflection

We should note that it is her reflection and not Sadie that Jake sees: [T]he curious fantasy came to me
that if I were to look under the drier at the real face and not at the reflection I should see there some
terrible old witch (p53). The relationship between appearance and reality is a central theme in the
novel, and Jake s search for the truth includes the desire to learn if one can ever truly know another
person. Jake s fear of intimacy is due in part to his concern for the truth; he states that although he
once briefly thought of marrying Anna, he has never wanted a communion of the souls because it is
already hard enough to tell the truth to oneself (p31). Jake nevertheless again comes to care deeply for
Anna, and in a frantic search of Paris, he finally finds her at the city s fireworks celebration:
The river was black now under the night sky and glassy, a black mirror in which every lamp raised a
pole of light and the conflagration in the sky above dropped an occasional piece of gold. The line of
people on the other bank was clearly reflected in it. Anna s image was quite still beneath her. I
wondered if in the river...my own reflection was as vividly shown. (191)
Anna does not see Jake s reflection, however, and he leaves Paris without having talked to her. In a
comic distortion of reality, Jake believes that Hugo loves Anna, while in fact Hugo loves Sadie, Anna
loves Hugo, and Sadie loves Jake; their relationships

Compare looking at the similarity between something.
1. Contrast looking at the differences between something.
Text structures refers to how the information within a written text is organized. This strategy helps
students understand that a text might present a main idea and details; a cause and then its effects;
and/or different views of a topic. These definitions are important because they are the Key Terms
throughout this unit. The student will need to know what compare, contrast, and text structures are. As
students learn to read, they should learn to recognize different text structures so they can predict what
type of information is included. This will raise text structure understanding and will to lead to a
permanent improvement in reading skill.

Read The Visual Meaning
What does it mean to read the visual ? What do you understand by the term visuality ? Using a
photograph or single image, explore the relationship between seeing and being, as it applies to visual
phenomena. Include a copy of the image.
To read the visual, one must look past the initial image and understand the context, meaning, emotions
and events that are occurring within the image. We all subconsciously draw a meaning from what we
see, we do this by identifying what is known and breaking that down into a simplified meaning. A
majority of us see the world visually, yet some people have the ability to reiterate what they see in a
visually poetic manner. A literary poem invites the reader to create an image in their mind,

The process is one step further than simply reading the visual. Visuality is the combination of seeing
and being or as Hal Foster is cited by Alexa Sand the mechanism of sight and its historical techniques,
between the datum of vision and its discursive determinations (Sand, 2012: 90). One text which
epitomises both the importance and envy of the visual is Kathryn N. Benzel s text Modern
In(ter)vention: Reading the Visual . Benzel discusses Virginia Woolf s attempt to become imbedded in
the practice of visuality; Woolf attempted to combine literature and visual art (Benzel, 2003: 322). She
was in awe of the painter Walter Sickert and his ability to portray life rather than executing a portrait
(Benzel, 2003: 329). Woolf attempted to create an aesthetic experience for reader[s] by recreating
Sickert s paintings into a literary experience; As cited by Woolf herself it was the sympathy of the eye
and of the imagination... aesthetic sympathy (Benzel, 2003: 324). In further writings Woolf goes on to
say how imitating a painting is vain and trivial but to writers it is illusive and irresistible (Benzel,
2003: 324). An attempt to describe what visuality is almost as frivolous and Woolf s plight to recreate
paintings into a literary piece. Visuality is seeing and it is being, but one cannot trivialize both in to a

El éxito de una campaña se mide no por el recuerdo del mensaje en si, sino por el recuerdo de la
marca.
Elementos a evaluar
Elementos a evaluar

You are overall responsible for the accountability of your soldiers. I believe that soldiers should work
smart and hard during the normal duty day so that we can maximize time off and maintain normal
work hours. However, mission will at times dictate weekends or late nights upon approval from the
Battalion Commander. We can avoid self inflicted problems by keeping track of appointments, breaks,
and other situations that interfere with the mission. Remember soldiers take the initiative when the
example is set. All appointments will be brought to my attention at least 2 days prior, emergencies are

The Horrible Conditions of Women in the Nazi Concentration...
There are people out there that go through the most horrible things in life some people might have

have been put through the worse things possible. Some of these women have been separated from

Sketches By Boz – Passage.Charles Dickens’ Language In
Sketches by Boz Passage Charles Dickens language in the passage suggests gloominess the motif of
darkness is present throughout. The use of words, such as cold, solitary, lifeless gives the scene a
sense of degradation and morbidity. He does this in order to give his audience a sense of what it would
be like to live as a working class person at that time and thereby establish the atmosphere,
foreshadowing the expansion of the subject matter that Dickens held a vested interest in class. The
word solitary along with the others such as quiet and closely shut building , forms a semantic field of
abandonment and desolation through which Dickens accuses the Establishment (the Government) of
essentially neglecting its citizens by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He voices his support for these side lined people of society by presenting their situation
euphemistically understating their circumstances via the word unfortunate . The sympathetic tone in
the word denies the idea that the poor are entirely at fault for their situation (which was a widely held
belief at the time of the Middle and Upper classes). Dickens purposefully emphasises the idea of
understanding and not the renunciation that was common. Having grown up in a working class
environment, he had first hand experience of the penury and hardship that they endured. The rich and
Middle Classes believed that the poor were at fault for their problems that they did not follow the
Christian way of life and deserved to be poor. Dickens was trying to reverse this widespread opinion.
Dickens presents the stigmatic problems of anything that could be seen as un Christian , such as
alcohol, prostitution, idleness , thereby vagrancy all often classed as immorality , of which many are
suggested in the passage and attributed to the poor. But while doing this he also challenges the view
that the poor are solely at fault; his blatantly satirical description of the incompetency and idleness of
the police, force who gaze listlessly is a disdainful reveal of public attitudes towards them. This is
perhaps a consequence of the low pay in the profession s early days, where the passage is set. The
police had been set up for some time and were not yet considered

Essay On Excessive And Underage Drinking
Excessive and underage drinking by US college and university students continues to be a significant
problem. Curtailing the misuse of alcohol on college campuses is an important goal of college and
university administrators because of the many negative consequences resulting from alcohol misuse.
As part of their prevention programs, US colleges and universities are required by law to make
information about their alcohol policies available to students. I think the government should legislate
college drinking because it has cause many deaths on campus. From drinking games to challenges and
to just parties. Also when ever there is alcohol involved in parties it leads to many problems and
criminal acts such as sexual assault and battery. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

increased from 26.5% to 31.4%, an increase from 2.3 million students to 2.8 million. During both

600,000 were hit/assaulted by another drinking student. Freshmen who enroll in colleges where many
students engage in binge drinking are quick to adopt the binge drinking lifestyle. Excessive drinking
among college students is a public health problem that is larger than just the colleges and universities.
It is a problem for our entire state. Drinking age should be lowered from 21 to 18, to help confront
what they describe as a hidden crisis in binge drinking among students. But they offer no convincing
evidence that lowering the drinking age would reduce excessive alcohol use by college students.
In my final conclusion the government should first lower the drinking age to see if it reduces the
drinking problems. If it doesn t then they should take action and come up with some policies and laws
to dismantle this problem and keep a visible police presence around college

Bandura And Observational Learning
The development of social cognitive is perhaps the most important part of developing and learning. I
think Bandura came up with a good reinforcement to learning that goes direct to helping people learn
by observation. There are three styles of vicarious learning that we expect to change our learning
patterns by observation. They are modeling effect, inhibitory and disinhibitory effect, and eliciting
effect. Modeling effect help you to duplicate the behavior you observe and it come from social
learning theory. It s occur when new behavior happen and the model doesn t have prior knowledge of
the behavior that is being displayed. I think this is the reason children follow parents and role models
to eliminate their behavior. This is important because learning come with rewards and punishment and
behavior both positive and negative follows. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will cause other children to refrain from following or engaging into poor behavior. I think this is
at the top of the list of observational learning because children learn from past experiences and it make
them focus on lessons they have previously seen. I know I can relate to this because most of my
family always drink alcohol and now I don t drink because I know what will happened from the past
experiences. Disinhibitory effect occurs when someone see a person doing something they is wrong
and they have refrained from doing the same thing until they observe them doing it. This will
encourage them to follow another child from displayed this bad behavior they feel compelled to do the
same thing, because the other child may have gotten away with it. In this effect children learn from

The Marine Corps And Amphibious Warfare
According to the 2010 Quadrennial Defense Review, it is often highlighted the US Marine Corps has
not conducted an amphibious assault since the Korean War, although technically this is not true. The
Marine Corps has conducted 4 amphibious assaults in just the last 2 decades. (Emphasis added) Lt.
General George Flynn argues that in the past twenty years U.S. amphibious forces have responded to
crises least one hundred and four times. These operations represent a crisis response rate more than
double that of the Cold War. (Emphasis added) In order to continue, however, the question posed must
differentiate between amphibious operations and amphibious warfare because they are not one in the
same. From an economic perspective, spending billions of dollars for a military capability utilized
four times in two decades seems imprudent at best, asinine at worst. An amphibious operation is
defined by the Navy as a military operation launched from the sea by an amphibious force, embarked
in ships or craft with the primary purpose of introducing a landing force ashore to accomplish the
assigned mission while amphibious warfare is defined as a type of offensive military operation that
today uses naval ships to project ground and air power onto a hostile or potentially hostile shore at a
designated landing beach. (Emphasis added) For the purpose of this paper, the assumption will remain
that amphibious warfare is the idea contested by its critics. The last true offensive

Advantages And Disadvantage Of Electric Vehicle
1.1 Introduction Global warming by carbon dioxide and air pollution is getting serious these days, as a
result that led to increased attention for the idea of Electric Vehicle (EV). The idea of an EV has been
around for almost 200 years. Thomas Davenport built the first EV in 1834. Until a few decades ago,
batteries seemed to be the only device capable of storing the energy in a safe manner. Unfortunately,
batteries are still not able to store the amount of energy needed to fulfill the needs of an electric
vehicle completely. They also have a low energy to weight ratio and problems with the recharging of
the battery are not completely solved [1]. Recent developments in microprocessors, magnetic

In some situations female workers earn more than their male counterparts in areas that lack women as
workers (McGregor). As stated previously, the wage gap is a result of choices women have made in
their careers, either to take time off to care for children, or just accepting more benefits as
compensation. The only way the wage gap would be considerably linked to inequality would be if
women and men worked the same hours with the same benefits offered. There is simply too many
variables for the claim of a wage gap to be reasonable ( The Wage Gap ). As for women being targeted
for sexual assault, that is true, but for valid reasons. Those who would target males for sexual assault
would be males and females who are attracted to men. Male aggression is linked to presence of
testosterone, which women have less of (cite medicalnews). As a result, women are less likely to be
aggressors, lowering the likelihood of a woman sexually assaulting an individual. A man can also
assault a man, but 95% of men consider themselves straight (cite livescience). The amount of those
who would act sexually aggressive towards men is so low in comparison to those who would towards
women that logically the statistics make sense. Crimes are not committed to target women they re

The Pros And Cons Of Skateboarding Subculture
Our lecture defines a subculture as a diffuse social network that have a shared identity, distinctive
meaning around certain ideas, practices and objects, and a sense of marginalization from or resistance
to perceived conventional society. There are five requirements a group of people has to meet to label
as a subculture. First, it is having a diffuse social network. With having a diffuse social network, there
is a constant flow of participant in and out of the subculture by the members becoming more or less
like the subculture every day. Second, it s a shared identity. By having a shared identity, the members

Essay On The Teaching Of Society In Lord Of The Flies
The Teaching of Society: Lord of the Flies
In the past three years, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been an unstoppable force in the Eastern
Conference of the NBA. Led by arguably the best player ever, LeBron James, they have made three
straight finals appearances, winning the Cavs first NBA titles in 2016 on a game sealing three by point
guard Kyrie Irving. LeBron himself has been to seven straight NBA Finals so one could say he knows
the game well and is to be considered a teacher of the game to his younger teammates such as Irving.
Recently, Irving has decided to step away from the Cavaliers organization to join the Boston Celtics
because he no longer wanted to be in the so called shadow of James. Multiple sources have spoken on
Lebron s basketball IQ calling it part of the reason he is the best player right now. Now that Kyrie has
joined the Celtics he is leading his team based off things Lebron has already taught him, but only time
will tell how the season will go and if Kyrie can survive. In the novel Lord of the Flies, a group of
British boys become stranded on an island and have to use what they know about civilization already
and how to behave to try and survive on this island. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses the
symbol of face paint to show that someone who is civilized has disguised human nature by adapting to

Personality According To Biological And Social...
My Little Brother s Personality According to Biological and Social Cognitive Theories When I was a
little girl, my parents were foster parents because they wanted to adopt another child. Throughout my
childhood, there were many children who would come stay with us for a few days, sometimes a few
weeks or sometimes a few months. When I was 9 years old, my older sister, Miranda, and I came
home from school and noticed a little tricycle in our front yard. We ran inside to meet this cute 17
months old little boy named Jordan. Jordan s biological mother was a substance abuser and she
continued to abuse while she was pregnant with him. We suspect that this resulted in some of the
learning and behavioral problems that he deals with daily. Jordan is now 15 years old. As he has
gotten older, we have noticed how his personality differs from the rest of our family s. I will be
defining his personality by applying Eysenck s Biological Theory, Temperament, and Bandura s Social

Maya Dance Rites
RITUALS Dance had an important role in the Maya rites, since they were used as a connection
between the ruler and the goods. The dances used music, which represented cosmic harmony given the
fact that involved rhythm. It was assumed that the gods set the universe motion through dance.
Therefore, the dances were used for initiation rites, celebrations of beginning war, celebrations of
victory, fertility rituals, astronomic and calendrical celebrations, cosmogonic rites and rites associated
with death.
Some examples of dances are: the Holmul Dancer, which was used for fertility ceremonies; the Ix tzul

it told, which was how the Robinal warrior was captured and sacrificed by the Quinche lords.

Pornography comes from the Greek root porne (harlot, prostitute, or female captive) and graphos
(writing about or description of) (Buchwald 35). Already the word pornography has a negative
connotation towards women condemning women of porn to a submissive or exploited role. The
pornography industry is predominantly a male owned and run business, hence the male perspectives
portrayed versus the female perspectives portrayed in pornography. There is a lack of women, in the

Many criticisms have been made on the validity of social media s impact on activism because of its
lack of the strong, personal bonds required in high risk activism as in such prominent activist
campaigns as the Civil Rights Movement. Social media is not as effective in creating a significant
impact in social activism compared to actual riots and protests. It lacks the centralized, structured focus
needed for effective social movements. Critics of social media and its growing impact would argue
that the impersonal nature of social media does not promote action and personal sacrifice so much as it
promotes participation in spreading the message of the cause and support of the values of the cause.
The argument is made that activists on social media would rather like a page on Facebook or follow a
Twitter account than risk their lives for the sake of their causes which is reflected in many statistics
that show a low ratio between the amount of likes received on a page and the amount of action taken
to aid in fixing the problem being presented; for example, the popular ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that
became a world wide internet phenomenon. According to the Charities Aid Foundation, only about 10
percent of UK participants involved in the challenge actually donated to the cause. Also, according to
a study done by the business intelligence firm

How Does Human Ecology Shape the Main Patterns of (a)...
Culture is seen as a system of shared beliefs and meanings. On the other hand society is composed of
members who typically share a common culture or, at least, a recognised set of values, symbolism and
other interactions such as social structure that defines the society s members.
Modern day hunter gatherers have adapted to geographical regions which have shaped their way of
everyday life, social structure and organisation. The San of south Africa, as a result of their permanent
settlement and geographic region, requires the males (because of their physical attributes) to travel and
hunt for game, a rare source of nutrition which is normally eaten on special occasions. Women hold a
more important role within a band as they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of the San, territory is shared within the band and if one leaves he/she still has the right to a
share of the land. This shared concept translates into equality between male and female hunter
gatherers.
Although different tribes of hunter gatherers are widely dispersed throughout the world they share a
common belief. Since they depend on the earth, animals and weather to sustain their lives they have
become one and mystified with nature.
The tropical rain forests that horticulturalists inhabit are tough environments for cultivation due to the
uproar of trees and little sunshine penetrating them. Horticulturalists have adapted to this ecological
restraint buy deforesting, cultivating the land, burning it, leaving it to fallow then move onto a new
piece of land this is known as swidden cultivation. Unlike their hunter gather cousins, horticulturalist
families must own more land than needed to be able to cultivate one garden and harvest another.
Owning more land means being able to own more surplus of wild pigs, as with the Maring case, which
reflects a man s capital. Having more than one wife and children contributes to the labour of the
gardens and is therefore beneficial to the man. (reflecting gender inequality).
The Maring, even though they are divided into subgroups, share ideas and common beliefs during and
after warfare. When one side is victorious, the defeated group s territory is destroyed along with it s

Analysis Of The Film Beneath Clouds ( 2002 ) Directed...
Australia s Identity plays an important part in the stereotypes identified in the film Beneath Clouds,
(2002) directed by Ivan Sen presented through violence, racism and a less than adequate education.
Through Drover s Wife (1892) written by Henry Lawson characters are depicted through one mother s
hardships and the way she raises her family in the absence of her husband. Both Beneath Clouds and
Drover s Wife explore Australian identity and what makes it, along with the integral part of any
culture in a diverse way.
Ivan Sen illustrates racism towards the indigenous community previously stereotyped in Australia s
identity. The way Vaughn is poorly treated is most evident in the film and through the use of different
techniques. As an intimidating young Aboriginal male, Vaughn s appearance depicts the character he is
and the way different individuals categorise him. Racism is highly elaborated throughout the film
through the contrast between Vaughn as a dark skinned youth and Lena a half cast, lighter in skin
female explored through racial stereotypes in rural Australia. As scene in the film, Vaughn and Lena
are hitchhiking towards the city, a white older lady drives straight past Vaughn, whereas she stops and
offers Lena a lift. Are you right love. As Vaughn approaches the car a close up shot is used to display
the emotion on the ladies face as she rolls her eyes and drives off. Diegetic music is used in the
background to give the viewers a better insight into the scene

The Peo Model
The PEO model is an appropriate tool to use to diagnose a person with Down Syndrome (DS) and
motor disabilities. The PEO model of practice has three main components which include the person
(P), environment (E), and occupation (O), which will be used for the interventions in this case study.
According to Rousseau, Potvin, Dutil, and Falta (2002), knowing the individual s environment and
how it interacts with the person is one of the essential key factors needed to provide effective
treatment and intervention in occupational therapy. More specifically, the interaction between the
person and the environment are major considerations to gain normal abilities because the nature of the
DS is different compared to the other diagnosis.

This assessment contains 6 subcategories including reflexes, stationary, locomotion, object
manipulation, grasping, and visual motor integration. Each subcategory has its own subtests to
identify children s development in depth. The reflexes contain 8 subtests to measure the ability of
automatic reaction to the environments. Typically, the reflex integrates age around 12 months, and this
subtest allows measurement of the reflex age from birth to 11 months. The stationary has 30 subtests
that measure the ability to sustain control within the center of gravity and retain equilibrium of the
body. The locomotion has 89 subtests to measure the ability to move from one place to another by
walking, running, jumping forward, hopping, and crawling. The object manipulation has 24 subtests
which measure an ability to manipulate balls such as throwing, catching, and kicking. Grasping has 26
subtests to measure hand and finger function such as holding an object with one hand and controlling
the object with fingers in one and/or two hands. Visual motor integration includes 72 subtests to
measure visual perceptual skills that are required to perform the eye hand coordination tasks such as
building blocks and copying designs (Folio Fewell, 2000). Generally, the duration of administration is
about an hour long; however,

Human Needs In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Its said that we always want what we don t have. That as human beings we always have the need for
something. We call these necessities our human needs. In the novel Of Mice and Men which is written
by John Steinbeck we saw an abundance of characters who have human needs. The novel showed how
characters would act when they were missing these needs and to what extent they acted to relieve
themselves. The four main human needs that the novel reflected were the need for security, realism,
idealism, and connection. The novel clearly expresses these human needs.
In the novel, the prime example for a character with the need for security is Crooks. Crooks suffers
from racism because of being black and was alienated from the rest of the farmhands. Due to this
segregation, he would spend his time in the barn rubbing his back with a bottle of liniment (Steinbeck
67). The liniment is like an invisible coat of protection for Crooks, protecting him from forces outside
of him. Crooks needs this form of security because it keeps him being a realist, rather than an idealist.
The rubbing of the ointment is also what he goes back to whenever he feels false hope. An example
would be when Crooks spoke up to Curley s wife and she said well you keep your place then, nigger
(Steinbeck 81). After being told that Crooks sat down, waited awhile then he reached for the liniment
bottle (Steinbeck 83). That is why security is a human need reflected in the story.
Realism is another human need

A Paper on Britain s Security Position
Introduction Britain s place in global politics and how this is set to change over the next decade. This
briefing paper will concentrate and focus on Britain s Security Position. Today, Britain faces a
different and more complex range of threats from a myriad of sources. These include terrorism, cyber
attack, unconventional attacks using chemical, nuclear or biological weapons, as well as large scale
accidents or natural hazards. In this briefing paper, we will discuss what Britain s distinctive role
should be in the coming years, the future about all of these and how can the UK get prepared. We will
suggest strategies for UK security over the next decade and the role that Britain has to play in the
modern world. This will include the UK s strategic approach and the UK s commitment to collective
security via a rules based international system and the UK s key alliances, notably and with the United
States and through effective and reformed international institutions to include NATO as the anchor of
transatlantic security and the UK s vital partnership in the European Union (EU). Analysis While
David Cameron is the present prime minister of the UK, he is carrying on many of Gordon Brown s
policies, albeit in a tighter fiscal environment. In the last ten years since 9/11, terrorism has been much
more of a threat to British security and will continue to be as stated in The National Security Strategy
of the United Kingdom: Update 2009 , Instead of taking offensive

  • 2. History On The Origin Of State Charters Essay Brief History on the Origin of State Charters in California California has followed the steps of many American states by committing its efforts on ensuring educational developments through improved governance systems. In the last half a decade or so, there have emerged diverse levels of studies in California State majorly because of three reasons which include several legislative practices, institutions, and participation of state agencies. The California Educational Commission was created as early as 1899 with a number of 70 members to study the state s educational program with an effort of improving it. Of much interest was the recommendation that legislation had to be twisted to form a uniform board for the governing of normal colleges and universities in California. This issue resulted in the formulation of a law that placed the normal colleges and universities in California under the State Board of Education. A legislation in the year 1992 found it necessary to have schools and authorized their creation. The legislation also came up with requirements for appeal signature and as a result a county appeals process was created and whose charter renewal came after every five years. The legislation also made clear the grounds for which the charters could be considered null and void. The flexibility of the legislation allowed there to be an amendment in 1998, which brought about a change in the requirements for petition signature and gave the mandate of revoking any charter to ... • 3. From Liberation To Conquest Chapter 1 Summary Since its creation, the causes of the rise of the US empire has created controversy among historians. This raised questions such as: what role did race play in the creation of the American empire. Nell Irvin Painter, Walter L. Williams, Paul A. Kramer, and Bonnie M. Miller are historians that identify race as a crucial element in the U.S. empire building. They choose to focus on different aspects and perspectives, and how racial ideas were involved in the Philippines during the Spanish American War. By exploring this specific aspect, the four historians sought out to answer the questions that previous historians could not. In chapter 5 of her 1987 novel Standing At Armageddon , Painter reflected on the Spanish American War, its aftermath, and the imperialism in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Miller explores the basis of the overwhelming support for imperialism in the Caribbeans and Pacific, showing how the nation s leading media makers editorialists, cartoonists, filmmakers, photographers, and stage performers captured the public s interest in the Cuban crisis with heart rending depictions of Cuban civilians, particularly women, brutalized by bloodthirsty Spanish pirates. She asserts that As instruments of persuasion, images communicate differently than words do, reach broader audiences, and may or may not be overly political. Similar to Painter, Kramer, and Williams, Miller alludes to and comments about The White Man s Burden . She proclaims that Americans leading cartoonists constituted a white Anglo Saxon male figure of the empire and subordinated his counterparts through visual gradations of age, gender, and color. Through the use of images and cartoons, Miller examines the shifting media portrayals of U.S. actions for the duration of the conflict, from liberation to conquest. It is a system that Canada as a nation often takes pride in, as it is predominantly public with basic health care is available to all citizens, and has some aspects of the private system incorporated as well. Health care often occurs in terms that compare public versus private health care systems. After a thorough analysis of private health care associated with neo conservatism, and public health care associated with welfare state liberalism, I assert that the more beneficial option for Canada would be public health care. Public health care is very accessible, and universal, therefore allowing the individual to have access to health care nation wide. As well, it is significantly more affordable than private health care when concerning the average Canadian citizen. Although, it can be argued that private healthcare is a better option for Canada because it would improve the quality of health care, offering quicker access it, and it reduces the amount of stress put on the upper class in paying for public health care. However, privatization acts as a barrier to providing universal and quality health care on an equitable basis. To understand why public health care is a more fitting choice for Canada, one must understand the relationship between the welfare state and public health care, and why liberals advocate for public health care. In Canada, public health care is a system of which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Extent to which You Think the Gothic Novel Represents... To what extent do you think that the Gothic novel represents recognisably modern anxieties? Since the 1800 s, vampires have often found their way into literature, legends, and popular culture. The vampire s first appearance in Gothic fiction came from John Polidori s publication, The Vampyre in 1819, and from then the fascination of the vampire and gothic literature as a whole grew and can be viewed as a commentary on the period of time in which it was written. The strong image of the vampire is a strong metaphor for communicating the zeitgeist of the time. By analysing Bram Stoker s, Dracula (1897) and Sheridan Le Fanu s, Carmilla (1872), as both novels are very important as they both helped mainstream vampire literature and created characters that have remained popular for over a century. An examination into these texts and the significance of the vampire on modern anxieties and anxieties of the time can be understood. In order to do this an analysis will be placed upon the main themes within both texts, such as degeneration, patriarchy, gender and class. The use of vampires within Carmilla and Dracula can be seen as significant in representing colonialism and the worries of degeneration that were established towards the Fin de siècle of the nineteenth century. Both texts present the hierarchy of civilisations through binary opposites such as the West being presented as good and light, and the unknown and mysterious East being described as negative, mysterious and ... I wanted so badly for them to understand how crazy they were, but most of the time they were too bizarre for them to understand so they gave up listening. Unlike most of my friends and family my dreams were so vivid that I could almost always remember them. In high school, I began to think that because my dreams were so vivid, they had to mean something. I began trying to interpret my dreams. If there were a symbol that stuck out in my dream all night, like a snake, I would try to look up the meaning. Or if there were a certain act I was performing in my dream, like swimming in the ocean, I would look it up. At first, I was looking up the meanings on dream interpretation websites. Then, I ended up getting a book. Now I know that thanks to Freud, I am able to interpret my own dreams. In fact, the world that God created is good, and when humans begin to work alongside God in creation, things become very good (Genesis 1:31). Unfortunately, because of the fall of humanity, God s creation strays away and falls short of God s original intent. The importance of the word all should must be accentuated in joining God in God s mission. My understanding is sculpted in my personal testimony. Five generations before me, my family was brought to America as slaves. My great great great grandfather Hope Quick was one of those slaves on a plantation in Bennettsville, South Carolina. In spite of his station as a slave, Bishop Francis Asbury preached that Jesus died so that all might be saved. In that moment, he begin to cry and even though he was a slave he accepted the gospel message and became a Christian; a follower of the way. It is through that missionary who joined God in God s mission that the Quick family and future generations came to know Christ. This experience profoundly shaped my understanding that all means all. The Internet Of Things The Revolutionary Creation The Liberation Of The World Wide Web Gary Kwong 8/11/2014 Dr. Michael Jones CIS 206 Business Software Applications Abstract Much like the telephone or the automobile, the internet has dramatically changed the way people work and live. Unlike the telephone or the automobile, though, the internet has single handedly led to the creation of a relatively free space, where people around the world gather to share ideas, collaborate, mingle, and invent a future with new possibilities that no one knew they needed today. From its humble beginning as a relatively inexpensive lab project aimed at improving workflows to its rise against tyranny in world affairs, a worldwide obsession with the internet has gone viral and will likely sweep non discriminatorily to all parts of the globe. As this loosely regulated environment, also known as Cyberspace, the Net or the Web , matures; it is the civic duty of its users to ensure that the door to the information gateway remains open and accessible as it continues to disrupt all industry and influence all aspects of human conditions. Introduction The worldwide use of the internet is practically indispensible. Yet, its origin only dates back to the early 1950s. No invention in history has grown so fast to touch so many lives. The relationship between appearance and reality is a central theme in the novel, and Jake s search for the truth includes the desire to learn if one can ever truly know another person. Jake s fear of intimacy is due in part to his concern for the truth; he states that although he once briefly thought of marrying Anna, he has never wanted a communion of the souls because it is already hard enough to tell the truth to oneself (p31). Jake nevertheless again comes to care deeply for Anna, and in a frantic search of Paris, he finally finds her at the city s fireworks celebration: The river was black now under the night sky and glassy, a black mirror in which every lamp raised a pole of light and the conflagration in the sky above dropped an occasional piece of gold. The line of people on the other bank was clearly reflected in it. Anna s image was quite still beneath her. I wondered if in the river...my own reflection was as vividly shown. We all subconsciously draw a meaning from what we see, we do this by identifying what is known and breaking that down into a simplified meaning. One text which epitomises both the importance and envy of the visual is Kathryn N. Benzel s text Modern In(ter)vention: Reading the Visual . Benzel discusses Virginia Woolf s attempt to become imbedded in the practice of visuality; Woolf attempted to combine literature and visual art (Benzel, 2003: 322). Elementos a evaluar 3. The use of words, such as cold, solitary, lifeless gives the scene a sense of degradation and morbidity. He does this in order to give his audience a sense of what it would be like to live as a working class person at that time and thereby establish the atmosphere, foreshadowing the expansion of the subject matter that Dickens held a vested interest in class. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He voices his support for these side lined people of society by presenting their situation euphemistically understating their circumstances via the word unfortunate . The sympathetic tone in the word denies the idea that the poor are entirely at fault for their situation (which was a widely held belief at the time of the Middle and Upper classes). Dickens purposefully emphasises the idea of understanding and not the renunciation that was common. Having grown up in a working class environment, he had first hand experience of the penury and hardship that they endured. The rich and Middle Classes believed that the poor were at fault for their problems that they did not follow the Christian way of life and deserved to be poor. Dickens was trying to reverse this widespread opinion. Dickens presents the stigmatic problems of anything that could be seen as un Christian , such as alcohol, prostitution, idleness , thereby vagrancy all often classed as immorality , of which many are suggested in the passage and attributed to the poor. But while doing this he also challenges the view that the poor are solely at fault; his blatantly satirical description of the incompetency and idleness of the police, force who gaze listlessly is a disdainful reveal of public attitudes towards them. This is perhaps a consequence of the low pay in the profession s early days, where the passage is set. The police had been set up for some time and were not yet considered ... I think Bandura came up with a good reinforcement to learning that goes direct to helping people learn by observation. There are three styles of vicarious learning that we expect to change our learning patterns by observation. They are modeling effect, inhibitory and disinhibitory effect, and eliciting effect. Modeling effect help you to duplicate the behavior you observe and it come from social learning theory. When I visited France, I spoke no French and went to stay with a family where only the sons spoke English. As a result, for the 18 days, I spent in France, I only ever heard French and thus felt excluded from countless conversations. Even though I am white like the majority of the population, I still felt out of place, but not inherently discriminated against as a result of my nationality and linguistic abilities. I remember at one point their father said to me Thank goodness, you can t understand what we are saying. This lighthearted comment hinted, at how since I was different linguistically, I was seemingly discriminated against or at least thought of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Freedom Of Expression And Human Rights According to article 19 of the United Nations International Bill of Rights, Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers, but what does this mean for the 193 UN member countries of the 196 countries in the world today? In a world where statements such as freedom of expression and human rights have such broad definitions, it is often hard to determine the effects of such clauses; especially when many citizens in countries of the world today struggle to exercise their freedom of expression due to strict governments. Countries such as China and Egypt have used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many criticisms have been made on the validity of social media s impact on activism because of its lack of the strong, personal bonds required in high risk activism as in such prominent activist campaigns as the Civil Rights Movement. Social media is not as effective in creating a significant impact in social activism compared to actual riots and protests. It lacks the centralized, structured focus needed for effective social movements. Critics of social media and its growing impact would argue that the impersonal nature of social media does not promote action and personal sacrifice so much as it promotes participation in spreading the message of the cause and support of the values of the cause. The argument is made that activists on social media would rather like a page on Facebook or follow a Twitter account than risk their lives for the sake of their causes which is reflected in many statistics that show a low ratio between the amount of likes received on a page and the amount of action taken to aid in fixing the problem being presented; for example, the popular ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that became a world wide internet phenomenon. According to the Charities Aid Foundation, only about 10 percent of UK participants involved in the challenge actually donated to the cause. Also, according to a study done by the business intelligence firm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. How Does Human Ecology Shape the Main Patterns of (a)... Culture is seen as a system of shared beliefs and meanings. On the other hand society is composed of members who typically share a common culture or, at least, a recognised set of values, symbolism and other interactions such as social structure that defines the society s members. Modern day hunter gatherers have adapted to geographical regions which have shaped their way of everyday life, social structure and organisation. The San of south Africa, as a result of their permanent settlement and geographic region, requires the males (because of their physical attributes) to travel and hunt for game, a rare source of nutrition which is normally eaten on special occasions. Women hold a more important role within a band as they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case of the San, territory is shared within the band and if one leaves he/she still has the right to a share of the land. This shared concept translates into equality between male and female hunter gatherers. Although different tribes of hunter gatherers are widely dispersed throughout the world they share a common belief. Since they depend on the earth, animals and weather to sustain their lives they have become one and mystified with nature. The tropical rain forests that horticulturalists inhabit are tough environments for cultivation due to the uproar of trees and little sunshine penetrating them. Horticulturalists have adapted to this ecological restraint buy deforesting, cultivating the land, burning it, leaving it to fallow then move onto a new piece of land this is known as swidden cultivation. Unlike their hunter gather cousins, horticulturalist families must own more land than needed to be able to cultivate one garden and harvest another. Owning more land means being able to own more surplus of wild pigs, as with the Maring case, which reflects a man s capital. Having more than one wife and children contributes to the labour of the gardens and is therefore beneficial to the man. (reflecting gender inequality). The Maring, even though they are divided into subgroups, share ideas and common beliefs during and after warfare. When one side is victorious, the defeated group s territory is destroyed along with it s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Analysis Of The Film Beneath Clouds ( 2002 ) Directed... Australia s Identity plays an important part in the stereotypes identified in the film Beneath Clouds, (2002) directed by Ivan Sen presented through violence, racism and a less than adequate education. Through Drover s Wife (1892) written by Henry Lawson characters are depicted through one mother s hardships and the way she raises her family in the absence of her husband. Both Beneath Clouds and Drover s Wife explore Australian identity and what makes it, along with the integral part of any culture in a diverse way. Ivan Sen illustrates racism towards the indigenous community previously stereotyped in Australia s identity. The way Vaughn is poorly treated is most evident in the film and through the use of different techniques. As an intimidating young Aboriginal male, Vaughn s appearance depicts the character he is and the way different individuals categorise him. Racism is highly elaborated throughout the film through the contrast between Vaughn as a dark skinned youth and Lena a half cast, lighter in skin female explored through racial stereotypes in rural Australia. As scene in the film, Vaughn and Lena are hitchhiking towards the city, a white older lady drives straight past Vaughn, whereas she stops and offers Lena a lift. Are you right love. As Vaughn approaches the car a close up shot is used to display the emotion on the ladies face as she rolls her eyes and drives off. Diegetic music is used in the background to give the viewers a better insight into the scene ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Peo Model The PEO model is an appropriate tool to use to diagnose a person with Down Syndrome (DS) and motor disabilities. The PEO model of practice has three main components which include the person (P), environment (E), and occupation (O), which will be used for the interventions in this case study. According to Rousseau, Potvin, Dutil, and Falta (2002), knowing the individual s environment and how it interacts with the person is one of the essential key factors needed to provide effective treatment and intervention in occupational therapy. More specifically, the interaction between the person and the environment are major considerations to gain normal abilities because the nature of the DS is different compared to the other diagnosis. Typically, the reflex integrates age around 12 months, and this subtest allows measurement of the reflex age from birth to 11 months. The stationary has 30 subtests that measure the ability to sustain control within the center of gravity and retain equilibrium of the body. The locomotion has 89 subtests to measure the ability to move from one place to another by walking, running, jumping forward, hopping, and crawling. The object manipulation has 24 subtests which measure an ability to manipulate balls such as throwing, catching, and kicking. Grasping has 26 subtests to measure hand and finger function such as holding an object with one hand and controlling the object with fingers in one and/or two hands. • 45. Human Needs In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men Its said that we always want what we don t have. That as human beings we always have the need for something. We call these necessities our human needs. In the novel Of Mice and Men which is written by John Steinbeck we saw an abundance of characters who have human needs. The novel showed how characters would act when they were missing these needs and to what extent they acted to relieve themselves. The four main human needs that the novel reflected were the need for security, realism, idealism, and connection. The novel clearly expresses these human needs. In the novel, the prime example for a character with the need for security is Crooks. Crooks suffers from racism because of being black and was alienated from the rest of the farmhands. Due to this segregation, he would spend his time in the barn rubbing his back with a bottle of liniment (Steinbeck 67). The liniment is like an invisible coat of protection for Crooks, protecting him from forces outside of him. Crooks needs this form of security because it keeps him being a realist, rather than an idealist. The rubbing of the ointment is also what he goes back to whenever he feels false hope. An example would be when Crooks spoke up to Curley s wife and she said well you keep your place then, nigger (Steinbeck 81). After being told that Crooks sat down, waited awhile then he reached for the liniment bottle (Steinbeck 83). That is why security is a human need reflected in the story. Realism is another human need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
