This is considered to be the earliest masterpiece epic poem of France. It is divided into three parts: 1.) The Treachery of Ganelon; 2.) Roncesvalles; 3.) The Reprisals.
John Steinbeck - 20th Century American Literature Presentation
John Steinbeck was born in 1902 in Salinas, California and showed an early interest in writing. He studied biology at Stanford University but left without a degree in 1925 to pursue writing. His first novel was published in 1929 but his breakthrough came with Tortilla Flat in 1935. In the late 1930s, he wrote three novels focused on labor issues: In Dubois, Of Mice and Men, and The Grapes of Wrath. The Grapes of Wrath generated controversy for its sympathetic portrayal of migrant workers, leading to accusations that Steinbeck was a communist. Throughout his career, Steinbeck addressed social issues and the struggles of working class people in America. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962 and died in 1968
