PHL 111 Milestone Two Worksheet
Use the following guiding questions to help you develop the
remainder of the Argument section and the Counterargument
section of your critical essay. First, answer each of the
questions below to draft your ideas. Then, complete the Outline
for Writing section, using your answers to the questions to help
you draft a paragraph response for each of the sections below.
II. This set of questions is designed to help you draft ideas for
the remaining parts of the Presented Argument section for your
critical essay.
A. Looking at the article that you have chosen, explain how the
argument contains or avoids bias.
i. Does the argument contain or avoid bias? Yes. How? This
article contains bias because the author introduces the topic
with a preconceived notion that online dating is better than
offline dating.
ii. Provide specific examples to support your explanation.
The author points out than online dating is more convenient as
compared to offline dating thus it is the better method of dating.
B. Discuss the credibility of the overall argument and answer
the following:
i. Were the resources upon which the argument is built credible?
No.
· Why or why not?
The resources that the argument was built upon are not credible
because they do not provide the cons of offline dating to justify
their claim that online dating is better than offline dating.
·
ii. Does the credibility support or undermine the article’s claims
in any important ways?
· How? The credibility of the article undermines the article in
significant ways because it does not include the cons of online
dating to reveal how they are outweighed by the pros to prove
indeed that online dating is the better form of dating as
compared to offline dating.
Outline for Writing
The argument that I have selected contains bias. It does
this by explicitly stating that offline dating offers significant
benefits as compared to online dating . I have assessed the
credibility of the argument to be credible/not credible because
the resources in the article were credible/not credible in that
they provide a perspective from the authors experiences with
both online and offline dating . The credibility of this
article supports the argument’s claims by revealing the most
significant benefit that offline dating offers which is emotional
connection which is arises when the individuals physically meet
each other .
III. Before answering the questions below and drafting the
Counterargument section of your critical essay, read the articles
listed under “Additional Resources” and “Scholarly Resources”
columns for your article found on the Final Project Topics and
Resources Page in Blackboard. Then, use these additional
resources to craft your own counterargument to the argument
initially presented in your chosen article.
A. Construct an alternative argument to that of your selected
article.
i. After reading the Additional and Scholarly resources
associated with your primary article, construct an alternative
argument to the claim being made in your primary article.
ii. What are the premises and conclusion of your argument?
My premise is that offline dating offers essential factors, which
makes it the most significant dating method. This led to the
conclusion that offline dating facilitates the most significant
step of dating which entails physically meeting one another to
assist in the advancement of a relationship especially one that is
intended to be long-lasting.
iii. What evidence or additional research supports the claim you
are making in your argument?
The additional evidence that supports my claim is that offline
dating advances the emotional connection and chemistry
between individuals.
B. Explain the logic and reasoning you are planning to use to
advance your argument.
i. What assumptions and resources can you use to advance your
argument?
The assumption that I am taking into account in supporting this
alternative argument is that offline dating may enable
individuals to learn the actual characters of one another as
opposed to online dating where people are able to provide a
misleading perception about themselves.
ii. Identify any weaknesses in your argument that would require
additional research or support.
One of the weaknesses in my argument is that offline dating can
be time-consuming especially for individuals who are consumed
with their work or studies
C. Explain how your previously identified personal experience
with the topic may create emotional influences, values or bias.
My previously identified personal experience with the topic
concerning offline dating vs. online dating may develop bias
because I have had more experiences related to offline dating as
compared to online dating.
Outline for Writing
My claim of my alternative argument is that offline dating is
better than online dating. My premises, is that offline dating
offers essential factors that online dating cannot match. This led
to the conclusion that online dating is the most significant
method of dating. I make this claim because offline dating
facilitates physical meeting of individuals, an essential feature
to develop relationship which online dating does not encompass.
This argument considers that offline dating may enable
individuals to learn the actual characters of one another as
opposed to online dating as an assumption. Some weaknesses in
this argument are offline dating can be time-consuming and
require additional research pertaining to its effectiveness. The
personal experiences that I have identified previously with
regard to this topic may create bias in this argument.

Milestone One Worksheet
Introduction
The topic I have chosen to focus on for my final project is
traditional dating versus online dating. To summarize, the topic
and theme presented in the article are concerning the variations
between traditional and online dating. Information regarding the
preference and which one is better than the other is also
examined. The premise or premises for the argument is/are that
various individuals should cease from complying to social
media dating norms concerning dating. They should look for
alternative ways of facilitating dating and not traditional
approaches alone. According to ("Huffpost Is Now A Part Of
Oath") there is no one size fits all formula” and the best dating
approach is attempting different dating strategies which best
addresses your dating needs rather than trying to fit into the
pattern set by a given society. This topic is relevant and being
discussed because of the popularity and impact that online
dating has emerged to have in this technological era. Online
dating is currently part and parcel of the daily lives of many
people. It is this popularity that has enhanced confusion
amongst people, making it a dilemma on which method to apply.
The personal connection I have to this topic is, I actively take
part in online dating, and I cannot remember the last time I
participated in traditional dating. This topic is of particular
interest to me because being an active member of online dating
club, and I feel like I will be in a better position to learn more
about the differences between online and traditional dating.
Presented Arguments
The argument being made by my chosen article/artifact is that
one has to make use of both traditional and online dating
approaches if he/she wants to be successful in dating. They are
expected to make use of online and off dating strategies
simultaneously. According to the author, relying on traditional
dating approaches is not sufficient even for an average dater’s
living style. This argument is based on the following key facts,
research, and resources: Authors research and opinions. The
author makes use of her views, and besides, 20 years of
experience in online dating as a coach in supporting her
arguments. However, she does not make references to scholarly
articles or even factual evidence. The logic and reasoning used
to advance this argument is efficiency, opportunities, social
norms, and finally, ways through which online dating
commences currently. For each of the option provided, the
author lists five merits and demerits. Examples include lack of
sense for any individual to lie regarding age and gender.
Considering the premises and conclusion that are advanced in
the article, the logic, and reasoning used to improve the
argument is an inductive argument. Spira's an argument can be
easily be deduced despite that fact that there is no evidence and
factual information given regarding the same. To make her
arguments stronger, the author provides descriptions of the pros
and cons of either dating approach. Understanding and
successfully evaluating the aspects each approach enhances the
knowledge of the methods. Trying different methods until you
meet one that can address your challenges is the only way
through which dating can remain a success. I have the following
questions that are not answered by the article: What factual
data is in place to help determine which dating method is better
than the other? Although I can agree with various aspects of the
information since I have been dating online for quite some time,
I might need factual information to serve as proves of the
author's knowledge. Therefore, a gap or weakness in the article
is absences of accurate and evidence-based information, thus
questioning the authenticity and competency of the item.

PHL 111 Final Project Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
The final project for this course is the creation of a critical
essay.
Being able to access and apply the proper critical thinking and
reasoning skills is key to being successful in school, your
career, and many aspects of your
personal life. By studying the basic elements involved in
determining the validity of arguments, composing coherent
arguments, and understanding how
personal biases, assumptions, and values influence thinking,
you will become more confident in processing the information
you are presented with on a daily
basis. Critical thinking is, therefore, an essential component of
the educational experience for every student and in all academic
disciplines. In your final project,
you will apply the skills of critical thinking to the examination
of an argument you have chosen from the list of potential
artifacts provided. You will examine the
argument’s logic, reasoning, bias, and credibility, and then
apply the same critical thinking skills to developing your own
alternative argument. You will also
reflect on how you can apply this process to other areas and
situations in your life.
The project is divided into two milestones, which will be
submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold
learning and ensure quality final
submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules
Three and Five. The final product will be submitted in Module
Seven.
In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the
following course outcomes:
reasoning, and fact
of arguments
,
and appropriate supporting evidence
-world situations for
informing decision making
Prompt
In Module One, you will select a real-world topic from a
provided list to focus your critical essay on. A list of topics is
provided in the Final Project Topics and
Resources section of the course.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed
in your critical essay:
I. Introduction: To begin your essay, you will formally
introduce your chosen real-world topic. As the foundation of
your paper, your introduction should
engage the audience and establish any necessary background.
A. Provide a brief overview of the topic. For example, you
might consider the premise of the conversation and why the
topic is being discussed.
B. Describe any personal connection you have to the topic. Why
is the topic of particular interest to you?
2
II. Presented Argument: In this section, you will explore the
argument in your chosen artifact. You will uncover the logical
structure of the argument and
investigate any bias behind its claims.
A. Describe the argument made by the artifact.
B. Identify key facts, research, or resources the argument is
based on. Provide specific examples to support your
identification.
C. Describe the logic and reasoning used to advance the
argument and any gaps or weaknesses present. Consider the
premises and conclusion
advanced in the artifact, and the questions that are left
unanswered.
D. Explain how the argument contains or avoids bias. Provide
specific examples to support your explanation.
E. Discuss the credibility of the overall argument. For example,
were the resources the argument was built on credible? Does
this credibility
support or undermine the artifact’s claims in any important
ways?
III. Counterargument: In this section, you will craft a
counterargument to counter the one that was initially presented.
You will support this position with
the critical thinking skills you’ve learned throughout the course.
Note: Your counterargument is not a reflection of your personal
opinion in this matter.
A. Construct an alternative argument to the artifact. Support
your response using the provided resources or additional
research.
B. Explain the logic and reasoning as you craft the argument.
For example, you might consider assumptions and resources.
C. Identify any weaknesses in the argument that would require
additional research or support.
D. Explain how your previously identified personal experience
with the topic may create emotional influences, values, or other
bias.
IV. Application: In this section, you will reflect back on the
process of critical thinking as it relates to this assignment and
make connections to its future
application in your everyday life.
A. Describe the process of critical thinking as you applied it to
this assignment. For example, what questions did you ask
yourself when analyzing
the initial argument? How did you answer these questions?
What steps did you take in assessing the strength of the
argument?
B. Explain how you will apply this process in your everyday
life. Provide specific examples to support your explanation.
Milestones
Milestone One: Milestone One Worksheet
In Module Three, you will submit a worksheet that helps you
organize and draft the Introduction section and Parts A, B, and
C of the Presented Argument
section of your final project. This milestone will be graded with
the Milestone One Rubric.
Milestone Two: Milestone Two Worksheet
In Module Five, you will submit a worksheet that helps you
organize and draft Parts D and E of the Presented Argument
section and the entire Counterargument
section of your final project. This milestone will be graded with
the Milestone Two Rubric.

PHL 111 Milestone Two WorksheetUse the following guiding q.docx

  • 1. PHL 111 Milestone Two Worksheet Use the following guiding questions to help you develop the remainder of the Argument section and the Counterargument section of your critical essay. First, answer each of the questions below to draft your ideas. Then, complete the Outline for Writing section, using your answers to the questions to help you draft a paragraph response for each of the sections below. II. This set of questions is designed to help you draft ideas for the remaining parts of the Presented Argument section for your critical essay. A. Looking at the article that you have chosen, explain how the argument contains or avoids bias. i. Does the argument contain or avoid bias? Yes. How? This article contains bias because the author introduces the topic with a preconceived notion that online dating is better than offline dating. ii. Provide specific examples to support your explanation. The author points out than online dating is more convenient as compared to offline dating thus it is the better method of dating. B. Discuss the credibility of the overall argument and answer the following: i. Were the resources upon which the argument is built credible? No. · Why or why not?
  • 2. The resources that the argument was built upon are not credible because they do not provide the cons of offline dating to justify their claim that online dating is better than offline dating. · ii. Does the credibility support or undermine the article’s claims in any important ways? · How? The credibility of the article undermines the article in significant ways because it does not include the cons of online dating to reveal how they are outweighed by the pros to prove indeed that online dating is the better form of dating as compared to offline dating. Outline for Writing The argument that I have selected contains bias. It does this by explicitly stating that offline dating offers significant benefits as compared to online dating . I have assessed the credibility of the argument to be credible/not credible because the resources in the article were credible/not credible in that they provide a perspective from the authors experiences with both online and offline dating . The credibility of this article supports the argument’s claims by revealing the most significant benefit that offline dating offers which is emotional connection which is arises when the individuals physically meet each other . III. Before answering the questions below and drafting the Counterargument section of your critical essay, read the articles listed under “Additional Resources” and “Scholarly Resources” columns for your article found on the Final Project Topics and Resources Page in Blackboard. Then, use these additional resources to craft your own counterargument to the argument initially presented in your chosen article. A. Construct an alternative argument to that of your selected
  • 3. article. i. After reading the Additional and Scholarly resources associated with your primary article, construct an alternative argument to the claim being made in your primary article. ii. What are the premises and conclusion of your argument? My premise is that offline dating offers essential factors, which makes it the most significant dating method. This led to the conclusion that offline dating facilitates the most significant step of dating which entails physically meeting one another to assist in the advancement of a relationship especially one that is intended to be long-lasting. iii. What evidence or additional research supports the claim you are making in your argument? The additional evidence that supports my claim is that offline dating advances the emotional connection and chemistry between individuals. B. Explain the logic and reasoning you are planning to use to advance your argument. i. What assumptions and resources can you use to advance your argument? The assumption that I am taking into account in supporting this alternative argument is that offline dating may enable individuals to learn the actual characters of one another as opposed to online dating where people are able to provide a misleading perception about themselves. ii. Identify any weaknesses in your argument that would require additional research or support. One of the weaknesses in my argument is that offline dating can be time-consuming especially for individuals who are consumed with their work or studies
  • 4. C. Explain how your previously identified personal experience with the topic may create emotional influences, values or bias. My previously identified personal experience with the topic concerning offline dating vs. online dating may develop bias because I have had more experiences related to offline dating as compared to online dating. Outline for Writing My claim of my alternative argument is that offline dating is better than online dating. My premises, is that offline dating offers essential factors that online dating cannot match. This led to the conclusion that online dating is the most significant method of dating. I make this claim because offline dating facilitates physical meeting of individuals, an essential feature to develop relationship which online dating does not encompass. This argument considers that offline dating may enable individuals to learn the actual characters of one another as opposed to online dating as an assumption. Some weaknesses in this argument are offline dating can be time-consuming and require additional research pertaining to its effectiveness. The personal experiences that I have identified previously with regard to this topic may create bias in this argument. Running Head: MILESTONE ONE WORKSHEET 2 MILESTONE ONE WORKSHEET 2
  • 5. Milestone One Worksheet Name Institution Date Milestone One Worksheet Introduction The topic I have chosen to focus on for my final project is traditional dating versus online dating. To summarize, the topic and theme presented in the article are concerning the variations between traditional and online dating. Information regarding the preference and which one is better than the other is also examined. The premise or premises for the argument is/are that various individuals should cease from complying to social media dating norms concerning dating. They should look for alternative ways of facilitating dating and not traditional approaches alone. According to ("Huffpost Is Now A Part Of Oath") there is no one size fits all formula” and the best dating approach is attempting different dating strategies which best addresses your dating needs rather than trying to fit into the pattern set by a given society. This topic is relevant and being discussed because of the popularity and impact that online dating has emerged to have in this technological era. Online dating is currently part and parcel of the daily lives of many people. It is this popularity that has enhanced confusion amongst people, making it a dilemma on which method to apply. The personal connection I have to this topic is, I actively take part in online dating, and I cannot remember the last time I participated in traditional dating. This topic is of particular interest to me because being an active member of online dating club, and I feel like I will be in a better position to learn more about the differences between online and traditional dating.
  • 6. Presented Arguments The argument being made by my chosen article/artifact is that one has to make use of both traditional and online dating approaches if he/she wants to be successful in dating. They are expected to make use of online and off dating strategies simultaneously. According to the author, relying on traditional dating approaches is not sufficient even for an average dater’s living style. This argument is based on the following key facts, research, and resources: Authors research and opinions. The author makes use of her views, and besides, 20 years of experience in online dating as a coach in supporting her arguments. However, she does not make references to scholarly articles or even factual evidence. The logic and reasoning used to advance this argument is efficiency, opportunities, social norms, and finally, ways through which online dating commences currently. For each of the option provided, the author lists five merits and demerits. Examples include lack of sense for any individual to lie regarding age and gender. Considering the premises and conclusion that are advanced in the article, the logic, and reasoning used to improve the argument is an inductive argument. Spira's an argument can be easily be deduced despite that fact that there is no evidence and factual information given regarding the same. To make her arguments stronger, the author provides descriptions of the pros and cons of either dating approach. Understanding and successfully evaluating the aspects each approach enhances the knowledge of the methods. Trying different methods until you meet one that can address your challenges is the only way through which dating can remain a success. I have the following questions that are not answered by the article: What factual data is in place to help determine which dating method is better than the other? Although I can agree with various aspects of the information since I have been dating online for quite some time, I might need factual information to serve as proves of the author's knowledge. Therefore, a gap or weakness in the article is absences of accurate and evidence-based information, thus

Being able to access and apply the proper critical thinking and reasoning skills is key to being successful in school, your career, and many aspects of your personal life. By studying the basic elements involved in determining the validity of arguments, composing coherent arguments, and understanding how personal biases, assumptions, and values influence thinking, you will become more confident in processing the information you are presented with on a daily basis. Critical thinking is, therefore, an essential component of the educational experience for every student and in all academic disciplines. In your final project, you will apply the skills of critical thinking to the examination
