This document provides an introduction to the philosophy of technology by discussing its relationship to the philosophy of science. It first summarizes some major philosophies of science from the early modern period through the mid-20th century, including inductivism, logical positivism, and Kuhn's paradigm theory. It then discusses how more recent philosophies of science, which view science as laden with philosophical and social presuppositions, have impacted views of technology. Specifically, recent approaches see technology as not just applied science and recognize that its development involves various philosophical, cultural, and social frameworks rather than just being a direct outcome of science. The introduction aims to provide orientation for students new to the interdisciplinary field of philosophy of technology.
