Editor's Notes

  • #11 Now a storage area for old boats, this is what's left of the ancient harbor Paul sailed into at Theaopolis.
  • #12 Sunrise over the Egnatian Way. This is the road Paul took from the harbor of Neapolis towards Philippi.Philippi is only about 5 miles from Neapolis, easily a one day's journey.
  • #13 Site of Paul and Silas’ prison cell
  • #14 Philippi ruins
  • #15 Philippi marketplace
  • #16 Public bathrooms were not uncommon in ancient Roman cities, but this one is a good illustration for Paul's reference to scubalon, or human waste.  In his letter to the Philippians, Paul wrote "I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ" (3:8 NIV).
  • #17 Philippi theatre (no IMAX)
