American Rivers lobbies for political candidates and bills that help its causes and does not follow any direct political line. It encourages involvement through community projects, membership, donations, and volunteering.

On November 17, 2015 the James Mott Community Assistance Program provided food boxes to 2,021 households at 5 locations in Fairfax County. The Ottawa County Department of Public Health received a state award for its beach health education campaign. The campaign educated beach visitors on how to prevent water-related illnesses, such as keeping pets off the beach and washing hands. Water tests over the past decade showed the county beaches had very good water quality, but advisories could not be posted for 24 hours after a water quality test. The education campaign provided a proactive way to protect public health at the beaches.

Clean Water Crisis
Nearly 1 billion people lack access to clean drinking water, and contaminated water can cause diseases that kill millions each year. This water crisis affects women and children in particular, who often must walk miles each day to reach polluted water sources. The goal of the Water Awareness Project is to raise awareness of this global issue and provide information on how to help through donations of time or money to organizations working to supply communities with safe drinking water.

Fight2Feed service has stayed nimble to serve our communities during the most unprecedented time of need. Fight2Feed mission to reduce food waste and serve those who are in need of a fresh and hot meal. Fight2Feed #essentialvolunteers are from local restaurants, BBQ, catering and consulting chefs communities. They volunteer their time to lead our kitchens. Until we find a home of our own, we have worked from borrowed and sponsored kitchens such as the McCormick Place East Kitchen and Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly to name a few. Our goal is to continue serving meals that help our community stay strong and keep our mission running as long as possible. To keep our community safe and share more meals our service has reshaped to now offer curbside pick up and drop offs. We seek volunteers to prep, cook, clean and deliver. We are always seeking volunteers with vehicles to help us rescue and mobilize our food.

Today’s Energy Source dives into the latest Statistical Review of World Energy, the industry’s annual stocktake of global energy consumption. The report was published for more than 70 years by BP before it was passed over to the Energy Institute last year. The oil major remains a contributor.
Data Drill looks at a new analysis from the World Bank showing gas flaring is at a four-year high.

New report offers sobering view of the energy transition
Every year the Statistical Review of World Energy offers a behemoth of data on the state of the global energy market. This year’s findings highlight the world’s insatiable demand for energy and the need to speed up the pace of decarbonisation.
Here are our four main takeaways from this year’s report:
Fossil fuel consumption — and emissions — are at record highs
Countries burnt record amounts of oil and coal last year, sending global fossil fuel consumption and emissions to all-time highs, the Energy Institute reported. Oil demand grew 2.6 per cent, surpassing 100mn barrels per day for the first time.
Meanwhile, the share of fossil fuels in the energy mix declined slightly by half a percentage point, but still made up more than 81 per cent of consumption.
