7. Effects of teenage pregnancy
In mental health- Teenage mothers have higher
rates of depression. They also have higher rates of
suicidal ideation than their peers who aren't
mothers. Teen mothers are more likely to
experience posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
than other teenage women, as well.
In physical health- Higher risks of eclampsia,
puerperal endometritis and systemic
infections than women aged 20–24 years, and
babies of adolescent mothers face higher risks of
low birth weight, preterm birth and severe neonatal
condition.
8. Effects of teenage pregnancy
In economy- less likely to complete higher
education and have lesser ability to earn more
income over the course of a lifetime, causing
economic losses to the country.
On the family- Unmarried pregnant adolescents
may face stigma or rejection by parents and peers
as well as threats of violence.
On society- A child having a baby as a teenager is
more likely to face critical social issues like
poverty, poor education, risky behaviors that lead
to poor health issues, and child welfare. The
financial cost of teens having babies is financially
devastating.
