working in roles which may directly contribute to the creation, detection or control of a well
influx. The Drilling Levels 2 to 4 are designed to meet the requirements of the accrediting
bodies IWCF and IADC and are offered with either Surface or Subsurface BOP certification.
This course is designed for people in critical well control positions on drilling installation as
well as onshore roles. The candidates will complete an IWCF accredited training course,
taught according to IWCF syllabus , in order to prepare them for assessment.

Who Needs This Program
IWCF Certification Well Control courses are offered at various role-specific levels for drilling
crew, well engineers, drilling supervisors and OIM and others with a requirement to hold an
IWCF or IADC Well Control certificate.
 Level 3 is designed for anyone expected to shut-in a well such as Driller or Assistant Driller.
 Level 4 is designed for wellsite supervisory and office-based personnel that are primarily
involved with the well design and operational decision making process.

The aim of this course is to provide a basic understanding of the features of drilling a well and
the fundamental principles involved in maintaining well control.

This course is a requirement for first-time well control
candidates wishing to progress to Level 3 (Driller).
Pre-Requisites for Level 2
Only one type of assessment is allowed for each
candidate at a certification session. To pass the
assessment and obtain a certificate, candidates must
achieve a minimum mark of 70% in each section of the
examination.
Each candidate is required to complete 2 written test
paper which include multiple choice questions and
Kill Sheet calculations. All candidates are allowed
between 1.5 and 2.5 hours to complete this section,
depending on the options taken.
The examinations are made up of multiple choice
problem questions. Candidates must be able to
identify equipment components and operating
procedures using diagrams and schematics. All
candidates are allowed one hour to complete this
section.
Independent Invigilators who are registered and
approved by the IWCF conduct the written tests at
centre which have been approved and accredited for
the purpose of the certification program.

COURSE DETAILS
Re-sit Policy
 If candidate fails in 1 component, and achieves 66—
69%, he is eligible for instant re-sit (USD 100).
 If he achieves 65% or below, he can take first re sit
within 90 days after initial exam (USD 200). Re-sit
registration should be done at least 12 working days
before re-sit date. Candidates must receive further
training in the areas of weakness must be confirmed
by PetroSync and will be charged USD 1000 per
training day and USD 75 per re-sit test paper.
 If the candidate fails on 2 or more components, he is
not be eligible for re-sit, and must re-attend a new
course.
Remark: Instant re-sit will be prepared by the IWCF
invigilator on the actual exam day, he will prepare the instant
re-sit paper as per the percentage participants on the class.
For example 3 delegates, he will ready 1 extra re-sit paper for
the one who qualified to sit for the instant re-sit which is only
fails 1 component and achieved between 66-69%.
Prospective candidates must have successfully completed
either IWCF or IADC certified rotary drilling well control
training in the past in order to attend a Level 3 or a Level 4
course.
Candidates undertaking a Level 3 or 4 course will also
undergo a practical assessment and two closed book
examinations leading to the required certification of
competence in well control. Assessment is usually
conducted in pairs of a driller level candidate and a
supervisor level candidate.
Candidates must set up for drilling, recognize a drilling
break and positive kick, perform the shut-in within the
shortest possible time in accordance with the
appropriate procedure, complete the kill sheet and kill
the well using the designated procedure (Wait &
Weight or Driller’s Method), bring the pump up to kill
speed maintaining constant bottom hole pressure,
operate the remote choke and make adjustments in
accordance with the time delay to maintain constant
bottom hole pressure and complete the well kill
operation

charges. Delegates who cancel less than fourteen (14)
working days of the training course, or who do not
attend the course, are liable to pay the full course fee
and no refunds will be granted. In the event that
PetroSync cancels or postpones an event for any
reason and that the delegate is unable or unwilling to
attend in on the rescheduled date, you will receive a
credit voucher for 100% of the contract fee paid. You
may use this credit voucher for another PetroSync to
be mutually agreed with PetroSync, which must occur
within a year from the date of postponement.
PetroSync is not responsible for any loss or damage as
a result of the cancellation policy. PetroSync will
assume no liability whatsoever in the event this event
is cancelled, rescheduled or postponed due to any Act
of God, fire, act of government or state, war, civil
commotion, insurrection, embargo, industrial action,
or any other reason beyond management control.
