Discovery services are tools recently adopted by libraries around the world. But what library staff actually think about discovery services? We have created a short questionnaire to find out more about use of discovery services in Library and information institutions and to compare libraries around the world with Czech and Slovak libraries. We will present results gathered up to 12.12. 2014 in this pecha-kucha, however our research still continues.

This paper presents research of the usage of UDC classification numbers during online catalogue searching. An online survey was conducted on the research sample which represents students of the University of Zadar, Croatia. Results of the analysis show to what extent are students familiar with catalogue searching by UDC numbers and gives their overall attitudes towards possibilities of UDC in online catalogues.

"Ogilvy also had the most prominent unofficial hashtag at the event, #ogilvycannes, which accounted for 82 per cent of mentions of unofficial hashtags with 27,132 mentions."
"Ogilvy demonstrated the value of a well-oiled social machine, with its own strategy playing a significant role in driving the agency to the top of the brand charts."
Salesforce quote: “Ogilvy was the dominant brand at Cannes Lions 2014, clocking 22,652 mentions online [during the week]. It jumped in early with a well-executed social strategy that even propelled Abraham Lincoln into one of the leading celebrity spots over the opening weekend – quoting his famous stance that ‘the best way to predict your future is to create it.’”

Antun Matanovic, Ivana Manojlovic: Scientific Papers in the Field of Informat...KISK FF MU
Talk given at the BOBCATSSS 2015 conference - http://www.bobcatsss2015.com/.
This paper addresses the problem of open access, with special reference to scientific papers. Scientific communication is the most important for the development and progress of science; it allows scientists to exchange information and experiences. The paper will present results of a study conducted in order to determine how many scientists in the field of information sciences in Croatia are ready to give their papers in open access. The results consist of a quantiative data from analyzing Croatian National Bibliography, and of qualitative data from a survey which provides better understanding of attitudes towards the open access.
Customer satisfaction at the Faculty of Philosophy Library in Osijek, CroatiaKornelija Petr
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present the findings of the customer satisfaction survey of
the Faculty of Philosophy in Osijek Library. The purpose of the survey was to determine the level of
satisfaction among two customer groups: students and faculty.
Design/methodology/approach – The methodology utilised was a five-page satisfaction
questionnaire.
Findings – This paper presents the findings of the first customer satisfaction survey of the Faculty of
Philosophy in Osijek Library. The satisfaction data are collected as a part of a wider library evaluation
program and present the first step in future continuous measurement of customers’ expectations and
their satisfaction.
Research limitations/implications – The structure and the size of the sample do not secure the
representativeness. Among the student population, the paper was distributed only to those who
visited the library, which, in a way, reduces the validity of the sample (those who are dissatisfied with
library services may avoid the library). Among the faculty, the survey was distributed via e-mail, but
some faculty members do not check their e-mail accounts regularly (or not at all).
Originality/value – This is the first measurement of customer satisfaction for the Faculty of
Philosophy in Osijek Library. Furthermore, there are only a few similar papers that report on research
in Croatian libraries in international literature.

Student engagement and library use:an examination of attitudes towards use o...IFLA
The purpose of this paper is to present the findings of a study that examines undergraduate students’ experience with research, library and information use prior to coming to university and their behaviour and attitude towards library and information after they have been exposed to a variety of library awareness activities and received information literacy training during their first year at Ozyegin University in Turkey. Students take a compulsory “Introduction to University’ subject during their first semester taught by both internal and external experts on a wide range of topics including ‘Journey of Information’ presented by library staff. The Library is also involved in the subsequent delivery of information literacy programs throughout students’ university programs in an on-going effort to engage them and to get them involved in university-wide activities. The library staff work as partners with the faculty and other student support services in designing, delivering and evaluating these programs.

Quality assurance practices in Croatian academic libraries: two case-studiesKornelija Petr
Higher education in the Republic of Croatia has been going through transformative changes ever since the introduction of the Bologna process. The Bologna process in Europe was introduced with the intention to ensure the more comparable, compatible and coherent systems of higher education and one of the extremely important elements of this process is the focus on quality. In Croatia, it was recognized that the higher education institutions need to continuously work on the quality improvement of their educational programs. This need motivated the introduction of the external assessment instrument – both of the educational programs (in the form of the initial and consequent reaccreditation procedures) and the quality assurance systems developed at the institutions of higher education. The Bologna process has also recognized academic libraries as important factors of the higher education institutions’ educational and research excellence. Croatian academic libraries have become more proactive in finding ways to align quality practices with the overall mission and goals of the university. This paper investigates the quality initiatives of two Croatian academic libraries – Library of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek and Zadar University Library, focusing on their methodology and strategic planning.
Students of Law and E-Democracy: Are They Information Literate at All? Kornelija Petr
ECIL 2014
findings of a small-scale pilot-study conducted among students of law at Osijek University on e-government and e-democracy information. The aim of the research was to find out the degree of the students’ information literacy regarding the e-government and e-democracy information. The survey was conducted in May 2014 (paper-survey) on the sample of 171 law students. Students were asked about the usage of ICT technology in their study and everyday lives as well as about the ability to find, evaluate and apply the e-government information. The results of our survey detected a low interest of our sample for information related to local, regional or national governing bodies (e.g. only 3.4% of students used ICT to access the local communal information, 0.5% contacted the representative of local authority regarding administrative or communal issues).
Have you ever wondered how search works while visiting an e-commerce site, internal website, or searching through other types of online resources? Look no further than this informative session on the ways that taxonomies help end-users navigate the internet! Hear from taxonomists and other information professionals who have first-hand experience creating and working with taxonomies that aid in navigation, search, and discovery across a range of disciplines.

0x01 - Newton's Third Law: Static vs. Dynamic AbusersOWASP Beja
f you offer a service on the web, odds are that someone will abuse it. Be it an API, a SaaS, a PaaS, or even a static website, someone somewhere will try to figure out a way to use it to their own needs. In this talk we'll compare measures that are effective against static attackers and how to battle a dynamic attacker who adapts to your counter-measures.

2. Library impact/outcomes
• ways in which library users are changed as a result of their
contact with library’s resources and programs (ACRL, 1998)
• ‘eventual results of using library services’ (Revill, 1990)
• Three types:
– Short-term
• Changes in skills, attitudes and knowledge
Mary, 5th-grader, can identify 5 birds by name on a field trip.
– Medium-term
• Changes in behavior and decision-making
Mary’s family chooses bird-watching activity for family vacation.
– Long-term
• Changes in status or life conditions
Mary chooses biology as her major in college.
AEW, Osijek, 22-23 May 2015 2
3. Problem areas
• Difficult to measure
• Prevalent ‘anectodal evidence’ – difficult to obtain statistically
valid results
• Methodology
– Usually a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods
• Other problem areas:
– Benefits vary as to certain user groups,
– Data not comparable yet (differing ways of data collection),
– Users usually cannot define their intention when using the library; the
result obtained may be accidental

• Academic/professional success
• Information literacy/information retrieval
• Social impact

5. Social impact
• promote connectedness between people and groups;
stimulate participation and inclusion, build social capital and
social cohesion;
• promote sense of belonging to, and ownership of society
(common identity);
• stimulate/promote community engagement/improvement
activity
• involvement in democratic process
• exposure to ‘otherness’ (other people, ideas)
• ...
