Marius Petipa (1818-1910) was a renowned French ballet dancer and choreographer known as the "father of classical ballet" who spent most of his career in Russia choreographing over 60 ballets. He established classical ballet as the dominant style, focusing on technical virtuosity and elaborate productions. Some of his most famous ballets choreographed to Tchaikovsky's music include The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, and Swan Lake.
