Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer born in 1840 in Kamsko-Votkinsk who died in 1893 in St. Petersburg. He was one of Russia's greatest composers known for his ballets Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker as well as his 1812 Overture. He struggled with personal relationships and depression throughout his life but was able to fully devote himself to composition after inheriting money from a wealthy widow.
