Pet Friendly By Sue Pethick
Animal companionship is provided through many choices and may include such examples as furry,
four legged creatures or those that may slither and frighten even the most ardent animal lover. Still,
the mutual bond that forms between owner and guardian transcends the daily duties associated with
pet ownership. These emotional relationships are corroborated through personal stories and are often
presented in heartwarming movies and novels. Pet Friendly by Sue Pethick utilizes an encouraging
theme to embody one example, which exemplifies how pet ownership, including the rewarding
aspect of adoption, has a magnitude of positive benefits on the physical, emotional, and social well–
being of the human companion.
There are a significant number of amazing animals available for adoption, many of whom are held
in shelters, which desperately seek forever homes. Sue Pethick corroborates this point by stating,
"The humane society had plenty of healthy, adoptable dogs" (192). Consequently, one of the most
fulfilling reasons for animal adoption is reducing the exorbitantly high euthanasia rates. According
to Vegetarian Times, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals reported that
approximately 7.6 million animals exist in shelters; of those, 2.7 million each were adopted and
euthanized (Barley 48). Upon further examination, felines were euthanized at a rate of 41% while
dogs were put to death at a rate of 31% (Barley 48). However, the future does not have to remain

Getting My New Fish Short Story
Getting My New Fish
By: Callan
I was getting out of my Mom's white car with my dog's leash in my hand and I said "Mom can we
cross the street to go to petsmart". "Sure" she said back. We crossed the street and entered petsmart.
When we were in the aroma of fish, cats and dogs filled the air. We made a left and we were in the
fish section.
I was passing all the fish and none looked that cool except for one. It was a black moon goldfish.
"Mom,Mom I think I found the one I want" I yelled. "Finally" she said back. Keep in mind that I am
a slow shopper so we were already in the store for 30 minutes. We found the guy that works in the
fish section and we showed him the fish we want. "Oh ya these guys are pretty cool,we just got them
in" he said. My Mom asked if there was anything special about the fish and the guy said Yes. ...

motion. Finally the man said "If this fish has what I think it does I can't sell any of the fish in the

Impressive Visit to Nebraska Humane Society Essay
As a class we had the opportunity to visit the Nebraska Humane Society, personally, this was the
first time I was able to visit NHS. I can honestly say that I was extremely impressed, and was not
expecting the level of service and dedication that was provided at the shelter. The NHS is a private
non–profit organization and receives no federal funding. The current building was completed in
2000. The 65,000sq ft building is an exceptional facility, and is the largest shelter facility in
Nebraska. Currently, NHS can house a minimum of 500 animals, including dogs, cats, hamsters,
guinea pigs, rats, bunnies, and non–venomous reptiles. Online the NHS showcases various horses
and donkeys that currently live in volunteer foster homes, awaiting ... Show more content on

The facility has not had to euthanize a healthy dog due to lack of space for several years. Programs
have been developed such as the "special needs fund," which allows for expensive medical
treatment, rehabilitation, and adoption for many dogs who may not of had that opportunity in
previous years. However, cats provide additional challenges due to overpopulation issues. Last year
approximately 800 treatable–rehabilitable/manageable cats had to be euthanized. However,
programs such as the trap/neuter/release program, foster care in private homes, PetSmart and
veterinary clinic housing/adoptions, and free cat adoption incentives greatly reduced the
overwhelming difficulties with housing/adopting cats (Nebraska Humane Society, 2014).
When stray animals are found, they are kept in specialized kennels for 3–5 days. After the mandated
time, if no one has claimed the animal then they are placed in the adoption program. There is no
time limit for an animal to be adopted, and NHS even provides obedience training to pets in the
adoption program. Once the animal is adopted, additional measures such as Manners N' More
Obedience classes for the owner and pet are provided, as well as access to the free behavior helpline
in order to help with any problems that the new family may encounter while

Summary Of Phoenix Arizona, Petsmart Essay
Headquartered in Phoenix Arizona, PetSmart was founded in 1986 by Jim and Janice Dougherty and
employs approximately fifty–three thousand employees with an estimated seven billion dollars in
annual revenue (Forbes, 2016). Although an immense amount of money, consider Danielle
Kurtzleben's (2013) U.S. News article title which affirmed "Americans spend over $60 billion
annually on their pets" (para 1). In other words, PetSmart has cornered a little less than thirteen
percent of the American market. Interestingly, even an additional one percent gain in the overall
market equates to millions of dollars. Additionally, to determine what the consuming public spend
all this money on, one need look no further than the Worldwide Web for a product overview of
PetSmart. Epstein (2016) reported, PetSmart, sells "... birds, guinea pigs, mice, turtles, lizards, and
supplies for these and just about every other animal, excluding elephants, otters, walruses, panthers,
and perhaps a few others" (para. 1). Also, during a recent visit to PetSmart where I purchased
another fancy koi for a backyard pond, I discovered that along with the assortment of pets and
supplies they offer for sale, they also provide pet grooming services and veterinary care. Personally,
I was astonished at the variety of aquariums, lighting, and pets to name only a few of the items that
were available for the adamant and casual animal lover. Even Forbes (2016) recognized, "PetSmart

Higher Prices, compared to a few of their competitors is one of the greatest weaknesses for
PetSmart. Wal–Mart, Petco, and Pet Supermarket are some of Pet Smarts greatest competitors and
prices seem to range anywhere between 10 to 23 percent cheaper. Issues with Suppliers is another
weakness PetSmart has had to sever ties to many different suppliers due to the fact that animals were
being ill–treated, and some of the animals which are used for food was being frozen alive. Also, the
fact that they were not being developing new stores has been a weakness for PetSmart because their

Best Pet Store
Your pets are like family and you want to treat them to only the best. Filling all their needs requires
finding a good pet store. Different types of pets have different needs and you may keep more than
one kind of animal as a pet. Here are six of the best pet supply stores and some tips to help you pick
the best store for your pet needs.
How to Find the Best Pet Store
Building a relationship with the right pet store is your goal. Finding a store that has what you need at
competitive prices is the first priority. Where the physical store is located in relation to your
residence is an additional question to consider.
Another important feature, and often a critical part of making the final choice, is how professional

Petco commonly ranks no less than second, and in a few instances supplants PetSmart as one of the
most popular pet supply stores.
Like their competitor, Petco has a website, where they present one of the most user–friendly online
experiences of all suppliers. Each week, there are unique discounts for a number of pet products. If
you're in the northeast and looking for pet supplies near me, The Mr. Bagel Mall in Portland is a
large Petco outlet.
They divide the website according to type of animal, and do the same thing with their physical
stores. Petco and PetSmart are the benchmark for retail chains and have a number of alluring
features, one certainly being the huge variety of both brand and quantity of products.
Petco also operates under an additional franchise name, headquarters in San Diego, California.
Unleashed By Petco has 84 store locations in various cities on both the west and east coast of the
United States and they have recently started to unify all Petco stores.

Being Financially Smart At PetSmart
Pet lovers from all over the United States are always looking for a store to find the best toys, food,
and accessories for their beloved animals. While there are many small local pet stores, the only
place to truly get the best products is at PetSmart. With over 1,300 stores nationwide, PetSmart is on
the leading edge of pet welfare and animal accessories. Petsmart goes the extra mile in providing
everything a pet owner could ever ask for such as providing grooming services, sleeping stations for
pets while their families are on vacation, and by selling pets directly from the store. Even though

information you had to submit an application to the company for their numbers. Petsmart continues
to have higher revenue than expenses, but the sales are not where the company would like them to
be. The return on equity(ROE) for 2015 is 20.32 compared to 24.06. There is a lower return on
equity in 2015. The gross profit margin for 2015 was 1.11 while in 2014 it was also 1.11. They are
listed as being down because more people are turning to getting their pet products online. Things
such as toys, leashes, and bowls are all items that can easily be found at an online store. If someone
can purchase something online and get it shipped to their door then they are more likely to do that
rather than make a special trip all the way to the nearest Petsmart. The thing that Petsmart needs to
do better is advertise the different services that they offer. Before researching this company I had no
idea that Petsmart offered veterinary practices inside their stores. I also learned that they do
grooming and boarding. If the company did a better job of informing the public of these services
then I'm sure they would see an increase in sales. Not only will people pay for these things, but
while the service is being done the customer has a chance to walk around the store and possibly find
other products to buy. There is not a whole

Because of the strong financial resources, Petsmart have more opportunities to expand its business,
so they are still the leader in this category. Recently, we have been doing a lot of advertising
activities. We have a Facebook page to connect the pet owners, and also we had a billboard on the
highway. We are still having advertising on radio, newspapers, and coupons are given out all the
times. In additional, we open some events to adopt pet, and also enhance our vision in the
community. We can make sure that we have the most dynamic marketing activities in this area.
Everyone knows Petsmart and Petco have franchises all over the US, so their marketing could not
focus on specially spot or place. That makes us to the leader in marketing in this area. Since, our
manager has a lot of experiences about the pet industry and our staff has been training for every

industry. Petsmart and Petco have a lot of pet stores across the country, so they could not recruit all
the people who have good knowledge about the pet industry, and they hired the people who are the

PetSmart realizes the importance of marketing and instead of spending a bulk of the companies
marketing dollars on going after new clients; the company's focus is primarily nurturing, retaining,
and maintaining the customer relationship that is already in existence. PetSmart is aware that
companies that do not succeed at nurturing and retaining their customer base eventually fail. The
company knows in order to be successful long–term client and customer loyalty is a continuing
challenge that the company must strive for on a daily basis and with every transaction no matter
how big or small. Several strengths exist in operating a mobile grooming service. The strengths are
that PetSmart will go to the home or office of the customer saving them time. The environment is
less stressful for the client and the pet because the pet will be in a familiar place. The service is
perfect for senior pets along with being a sanitary, safe and healthy environment. PetSmart also

Case Study: Yorktown Technologies 10/1/2014
Executive Summary
The Problem
I have been asked to evaluate the marketing strategy for Yorktown Technologies.Specifically, what
strategy they should use to become more successful by reaching their full potential and operating at
an increased profit. Yorktown Technologies, in the beginning, had projected sales of $4,000,000.
Unfortunately, with the absence distribution strategies and a marketing strategic plan, they only
made a profit of $500,000. Expenses during the first years were $620,000 producing a loss of more
than $120,000. Yorktown Technologies needed to focus on a new successful marketing strategy that
will help the company reach its revenue goal.

They have a lack of consumer interest. The fish were not as bright as expected and with the lack of
excitement by consumers, the attractiveness was not drastic enough to attract the attention of
consumers while shopping. Fish lovers are "finicky" or flakey and they need a variety and
differentiation of exciting products to support their interest and loyalty. Yorktown must carry–out a
strategic marketing plan and figure out a way to only display their fish in optimal lighting so that the
consumers passing by will still notice the exciting product.

They follow the CALIFORNIA TRANSPARENCY IN SUPPLY CHAINS ACT OF 2010 since they
do business in California. This requires that certain large companies disclose to the public the extent
of their efforts to ensure that the goods they sell are not produced by workers who are enslaved,

following to eradicate human trafficking and slavery from our global supply chain manufacturers.
The disclosure must address the 5 areas of verification, audits, certification, internal auditing and
training. To verify that there isn't any violations, PetSmart uses an enterprise risk management
process annually to identify and assess major risks to the company. PetSmart requires international
proprietary brand vendors to undergo an independent third party social accountability audit to
review if any human trafficking and slavery issues exist. If a vendor fails to comply and a solution
cannot be reached, business with this vendor ends. All international vendors must provide a signed

products are in compliance with the laws and regulations regarding slavery and human trafficking.
Internal accountability is achieved by requiring all employee's to certify they have reviewed and

Background of PetSmart
Operating in 1197 stores in North America, PetSmart "is the largest specialty retailer of services and
solutions for the lifetime needs of pets" (PetSmart.com.PetSmart Corporate: Investor Relations.
2012). The business of pets and pet care continues to be a thriving and growing industry; "the
American Pet Products Association, or "APPA, estimated the calendar year 2010 market at
approximately $47.7 billion, an increase of more than 180% since calendar year 1994"
(PetSmart.com. Investor Relations. Annual Report. 2010). The industry's size and scope provides
opportunities for a range of business to compete for the pet owner's discretionary spending; as such
PetSmart must constantly innovate and offer consumers value across their business model. The
ongoing streamlining of the company's value chain offers insight into two "big ideas" of economics:
markets and voluntary exchange, and choices and incentives. PetSmart PetSmart has been in
operation since 1987 with a mission to serve pet owners, termed "pet parents" by the company
across multiple product and service platforms (PetSmart.com.PetSmart Corporate: Company
Overview. 2012). PetSmart's goal is to capture an ever increasing share of the dynamic pet market,
which has 62% of households in the United States owning a pet, equating to more than 71 million
homes" (PetSmart.com. Investor Relations. Annual Report. 2010); by providing pet owners
differentiated choices and value across key categories: "food and treats, supplies and

How Petsmart Can Increase Their Roi By Focusing On...
Introduction
Petsmart is the largest specialty pet retailer. They provide service and products for the lifetime needs
or pets. They became a private company in 2015 (Associated Press, 2015). They sell live animals
such as fish, gerbils, and birds. They also partner with adoption agencies for cats, dogs and rabbit.
These partners will come once a week to hold an adoption event. Petsmart also offers services such
as cat and dog grooming, boarding, training and an on–site veterinarian. Their vision statement
according to Petsmart Corporate is "We love pets and we believe pets make us better people.
Petsmart will be the trusted partner to pet parents and pets in every moment of their lives." (2010).
The following paper will analyze ways in which Petsmart can increase their ROI by focusing on
innovation, sustainability and Six Sigma processes.
Analysis
The innovation that could help Petsmart increase their ROI is implementing a more vendor–
managed inventory. Vendor–managed inventory is when "the vendor (supplier) is responsible for
managing the inventory located at a customer's facility." (Swink, p. 267). According to Petsmart
Strategic Audit (2015), "Petsmart implements a just–in–time inventory strategy by receiving goods
only as they are needed" (p.27). Currently the only brand that is vendor managed is the Fresh Pet
display. This display is the only display that is refrigerated. Since the company does not have an
over stock area for products that require refrigeration, a

Case Background PetSmart is a retail chain headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, with approximately
1,200 locations in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The chain specializes in pet supplies,
dog training and grooming, day care for pets, and often has a Banfield Vet Clinic attached. It was
founded in 1986, and by 2000 remodeled most of its stores, then in August 2005 changed its name
from PetSmart to PetSmart, designed to de–emphasize its mission from a pet supply store to a
companion animal and pet solution store (PetSmart – Our Vision) The store is divided into four
major project lines: dog, cat, bird, fish and small animal and horse: Dog The number one branded
product, typically a step up from Grocery Store brands with some distinction between this and other
gourmet brands. Beds, toys, foods, and supplies make up the majority of sales. Cat Again, upgraded
foods, litters, toys, and supplies. Bird, Fish and Small Animal Live birds, small mammals and
reptiles, tropical fish and supplies. The company is active, though, in ensuring that all animals are
bred legally and are healthy prior to being displayed in the store. Horse Depending on the location,
supplies (grooming) and some riding gear. One unique part of PetSmart is their commitment to
helping stray pets find homes. Rather than selling dogs and cats, they donate space in the stores to
rescue groups. These groups are also provided donations of food, supplies and litter. In fact, at the

Personal Narrative: New Dog
NEW DOG By: Austin Ciccarelli
Dad, I asked when are we going to get a new dog? Me Ashlynn and Makenna really want one. We
talked about getting a new dog all the way home. I wondered to myself if today would be the day
that me and my sister's dreams would come true.
My mom and dad walked inside first my mom ran into the living room with me and my sisters
looked at each other puzzled. Then we saw it a new dog me and my sisters rushed over there as if
there was a race to win a marathon. Then everything froze for a second as we got there I could see
was a new golden retriever puppy that my mom was holding. I ran over to the new dog and petted
him and I asked my mom if I could hold him for a couple of minutes she said yes but I have to give
my sisters a turn.

After we could actually take a second and let cooper look around, we took him to the treats. So he
could pick some things out My mom said we can get him a dog bed, 2 tennis balls, 3 treats, and 1
toy.
After we were done at Petsmart we went to Chowhound and we couldn't find him anything there so
then we were just looking and then in the back there was a place where you could wash your dog.
Then we looked at the price and it was only 10 dollars so, then I asked mom, can we do the bath and
she said yes. When we got in there and turned the bath nozzle on Cooper didn't like it, but luckily
there was this collar thing so the dogs couldn't hop out. When Cooper was done with his bath we
dried him off, but he didn't like because it was loud and it hurts his ears.
After my parents paid we went home and we played with his new toys and he ate some of his new
treats, then after that he just fell asleep for a while. I will never forget today the day that me and my

Narrative Essay About My Guinea Pig
Christmas break was finally over, so it was time to return to the stressful world known as school. I
wanted to check on my guinea pig, Sparky, when I first woke up at six o'clock a.m. to see how he
was doing. However, once I had lifted the small pink den that he slept under, I had discovered the
ugly truth. The guinea pig that I had adopted from PetSmart nearly two weeks ago lay there
unmoving, motionless. I had tried picking him up to put him in his small carrier, but he was very
stiff and heavy, so I decided to leave him until my parents had found out. He's really dead, isn't he? I
thought to myself. I could already feel the tears forming in my eyes, and my sight started becoming
very blurry. I slowly walked downstairs to tell my mom, and I could tell that she was also sad about
it. Though, it seemed as if both her and my dad had already thought something like this might
happen, even if they didn't say anything about it. "It's not your fault," my mom told me. "It's the pet
store's. They didn't tell us if he had any certain condition and they probably didn't have him tested
for any illnesses at all recently."
Once I had finished getting ready for school and got on the bus, I started telling anyone that I knew
well and felt comfortable talking to about the incident, though I feel like I should have asked them
how their Christmas break went and talked about the fun things both of us did instead. No matter

Persuasive Animal Animals
With any six year old, getting a puppy is the best time of a kids life. Going to the shelter or pet store
and seeing a puppy jump up and want to be petted and played with fills you with a kind of joy like
nothing else has in your short life. Well, that's how I felt. In 2005, I got my first puppy. We went
from building to building, looking at different dogs. Some places we stayed to play, and others we
left immediately. The size of the cages was practically nonexistent and the smell of feces was
overpowering. Unlike the naturally playful nature of puppies, the ones at the stores were subdued,
almost as if they were drugged. Little did I know, we left those places because my parents suspected
they were being filled by puppy mills. Finally, we got a beagle from a shelter who was picked up as
a stray. Beautiful, tri–colored, and purebred, we named our new puppy Bailey. What we still didn't
know is she had a disease that killed puppies that are kept in close proximity to an infected dog. Our
beautiful, loving puppy had parvovirus. However, she beat the odds and survived! Our carpets, on
the other hand, did not. She lived a long, happy life running through our neighborhood with my
brother and I. There is an everlasting battle between adopting animals through commercial breeding
or through shelters causing a longstanding ethical debate on which method should be chosen.
Companion animals such as dogs, cats, and small animals should be adopted from animals shelters

When I left Lowe's I was able to develop a plan, yet I was not able to master the concepts of

with my Store Manager to drive sales, increase margins, improve store presentation, decrease
accidents, improve shrink, and employee retention. An example was when I had to develop a plan to
reduce store shrink and employee incidents; this required the implementation of new strategies such
as forming a risk management team to address the concerns of safety, operational execution,
customer service, employee awareness, and pet incidents. We would create

children cannot be left alone, puppies cannot either. The crate provides them with a safe place. A

Descriptive Experience Of Fish
Version 2: 5 fish, mean fish, dead fish, no fish!
I opened the black hatch on the lid of the fish tank. Turning open the lid of the plastic container, I
reached inside and took out a pinch of the musty–smelling fish food flakes. I sprinkled the flakes
over the water in the fish tank and watched as the 5 fish swam up, gulping up the thin copper,
crimson, and mahogany colored flakes. I watched until the fish swam away, finished with their
meal. I then closed the hatch, put away and closed the jar of fish food, and walked out of my room.
Feeding time was over. Just a couple days ago, I had been at Petsmart with my family.
The fish tanks at Petsmart were all lined up against the walls, illuminated by blue and violet lights.
Each fish tank held fish of all kinds of different shapes, colors, and sizes. My family had bought 5
glimmering fish, a bag of fish care supplies, and when we got home, my mom and dad took the old
fish tank we had in our garage, and much to my delight, set it up in my room, on top of a low
bookcase.
One day, me and my mom both saw something odd in the fish tank.. One of the fish, a huge fish
with silver colored scales, was pecking at some of the smaller fish, causing a couple of their scales
to fall off and drift around in the water. Me and my sister started calling that fish the,"mean fish."
Later, I walked in my room to see that the mean fish was now stuck inside a fishbowl! But
technically, the fishbowl was actually inside the fish tank, just a

Personal Narrative: My Dream Shelters Program
My dream outreach program would be to help promote the adoption of adult dogs in shelters
everywhere. So many dogs across the US are left in shelters afraid, alone and lots of them don't
survive. The statistics of adult dogs being adopted vs. a puppy are low, puppies always go faster in a
shelter. Many of these adult dogs in shelters were once someone's loving pet. With shelters being
over populated many of these dogs are never adopted and euthanized. Love without a Paws program
will help adult dogs 1 year of age and more to be adopted. The program will be managed by myself
with local volunteers who will promote the program with advertisement also partnered with
sponsors who will provide the services. Love without a Paws will team up with sponsors like
Petsmart to offer free training classes and education about adult dogs and, local shelters will offer
affordable vet visits for adopting an adult dog from their shelter. Secondly adopting an adult dog
will be less work than adopting a puppy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Puppies require an abundance of training time, exercise, and socialization with other animals and
people. Those things are essential for them to be comfortable in the world and become wonderful
dogs. Puppies will have accidents in the house, chew, get into things and make messes. For these
reasons they require a lot of your time, so they know what you want and don't want them to do. It's
recommended for first–time dog owners to start with an adult dog if you cannot devote the time
necessary to socialize, train and exercise a puppy properly. With an adult dog you know what you're

Case Study : ' Petsmart ' And ' Pet Food Warehouse '
PetsMart was founded in 1986 by Jim and Jackie Dougherty. The first two stores were opened in
Arizona and named "Pet Food Warehouse." Shortly after, five more stores opened and were
committed to help save animal lives through adoption events. In 1989, the name was officially
changed to PetsMart and opened the first full grooming service salon. These stores also incorporated
the sales of small animals. By 1993, PetsMart went public on the stock market, and just a year later
they opened their 100th store, including pet training. Four years later, their store count quintupled to
500 stores, and expanded to Canada (Fedora 2014). Over the next several years, PetsMart made the

PetSmart financially has been increasing each year, earning 7,112 million in sales last year. These
increases have been steadily increasing over the years, but last year PetSmart lost some of that
growth by only increasing .1 million in sales from 2014 to 2015. Their operating cash flow took a
hit of .40 million dollars and dividends to stockholders decreased $30 million dollars in
2013(Fedora 2014). PetSmart did open more stores in 2013 than usual, so this is one reason why
they took a little financial hit. PetSmart has also discussed that their recent customer satisfaction
decline could have led to this decrease as well. In 2014, PetSmart noticed this and was able to
reverse this trend by slowing down their store growth, and increasing their dividends. Their dividend
payout increased 48.6% over the year, revenues increased 2%, and EPS increased 6%. PetSmart and
Racobaldo Consulting Firm have agreed that regardless, one are they need to improve is custom
satisfaction. This will help build trust that all pet owners can feel encouraged to take their pet to our
PetSmart services. PetSmart services are often cheaper than that of vets and other groomers, so if
quality continues to rise, PetSmart believes they can continue to build that trust (Wahba 2014).

Pet Friendly By Sue Pethick
Animal companionship is available through many choices and may include such examples as furry,
four legged creatures or those that may slither and frighten even the most ardent animal lover. Still,
the mutual bond that forms between owner and guardian transcends the daily duties associated with
pet ownership. These emotional relationships are corroborated through personal stories and often
presented in heartwarming movies and novels. Pet Friendly by Sue Pethick utilizes an encouraging
theme to embody one example, which exemplifies how pet ownership, including the rewarding
aspect of adoption, has a magnitude of positive benefits on the physical, emotional, and social well–
being of the human companion.

Unfortunately, some individuals may have reservations about animal adoption because of
preconceived notions of low success rates. Mindful of these concerns, Pet Smart Charities sought
information regarding the success rates of animal adoptions. In three surveys performed over a one
year period with respondents who adopted dogs and cats from either a PetSmart location, Adopt–a–
Thon event, or shelter, Neidhart and Boyd concluded there was an overwhelming positive response
to animal adoption (175). Ninety percent reported being very satisfied with the animal chosen, while
only two percent responded very dissatisfied. Additionally, eighty eight percent reported being very
satisfied with the adoption experience, and ninety eight percent would recommend their adoption
location to others (176). While adoption is just the beginning of the subsequent years of happiness
and companionship for the pet and the caretaker, numerous other benefits accompany this
camaraderie.
Individuals who share their lives with animals reap numerous physical benefits, which leads to an
improvement of overall health. One of the most widely known physical rewards is simply achieved
by exercising with a dog, which mutually benefits both parties and involves merely taking the
recommended thirty minute daily walk (Benjamin 1). Additionally, the reduction in heart disease,

wanted to break away from the company being a mart and lean more toward smart innovations. The

Pet Friendly By Sue Pethick

  • 1. Pet Friendly By Sue Pethick Animal companionship is provided through many choices and may include such examples as furry, four legged creatures or those that may slither and frighten even the most ardent animal lover. Still, the mutual bond that forms between owner and guardian transcends the daily duties associated with pet ownership. These emotional relationships are corroborated through personal stories and are often presented in heartwarming movies and novels. Pet Friendly by Sue Pethick utilizes an encouraging theme to embody one example, which exemplifies how pet ownership, including the rewarding aspect of adoption, has a magnitude of positive benefits on the physical, emotional, and social well– being of the human companion. There are a significant number of amazing animals available for adoption, many of whom are held in shelters, which desperately seek forever homes. Sue Pethick corroborates this point by stating, "The humane society had plenty of healthy, adoptable dogs" (192). Consequently, one of the most fulfilling reasons for animal adoption is reducing the exorbitantly high euthanasia rates. According to Vegetarian Times, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals reported that approximately 7.6 million animals exist in shelters; of those, 2.7 million each were adopted and euthanized (Barley 48). Upon further examination, felines were euthanized at a rate of 41% while dogs were put to death at a rate of 31% (Barley 48). However, the future does not have to remain bleak ... Getting My New Fish Short Story Getting My New Fish By: Callan I was getting out of my Mom's white car with my dog's leash in my hand and I said "Mom can we cross the street to go to petsmart". "Sure" she said back. We crossed the street and entered petsmart. When we were in the aroma of fish, cats and dogs filled the air. We made a left and we were in the fish section. I was passing all the fish and none looked that cool except for one. It was a black moon goldfish. "Mom,Mom I think I found the one I want" I yelled. "Finally" she said back. Keep in mind that I am a slow shopper so we were already in the store for 30 minutes. We found the guy that works in the fish section and we showed him the fish we want. • 7. Impressive Visit to Nebraska Humane Society Essay As a class we had the opportunity to visit the Nebraska Humane Society, personally, this was the first time I was able to visit NHS. I can honestly say that I was extremely impressed, and was not expecting the level of service and dedication that was provided at the shelter. The NHS is a private non–profit organization and receives no federal funding. The current building was completed in 2000. The 65,000sq ft building is an exceptional facility, and is the largest shelter facility in Nebraska. Currently, NHS can house a minimum of 500 animals, including dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, bunnies, and non–venomous reptiles. Online the NHS showcases various horses and donkeys that currently live in volunteer foster homes, awaiting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The facility has not had to euthanize a healthy dog due to lack of space for several years. Programs have been developed such as the "special needs fund," which allows for expensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and adoption for many dogs who may not of had that opportunity in previous years. However, cats provide additional challenges due to overpopulation issues. Last year approximately 800 treatable–rehabilitable/manageable cats had to be euthanized. However, programs such as the trap/neuter/release program, foster care in private homes, PetSmart and veterinary clinic housing/adoptions, and free cat adoption incentives greatly reduced the overwhelming difficulties with housing/adopting cats (Nebraska Humane Society, 2014). When stray animals are found, they are kept in specialized kennels for 3–5 days. After the mandated time, if no one has claimed the animal then they are placed in the adoption program. There is no time limit for an animal to be adopted, and NHS even provides obedience training to pets in the adoption program. Once the animal is adopted, additional measures such as Manners N' More Obedience classes for the owner and pet are provided, as well as access to the free behavior helpline in order to help with any problems that the new family may encounter while ... • 8. Summary Of Phoenix Arizona, Petsmart Essay Headquartered in Phoenix Arizona, PetSmart was founded in 1986 by Jim and Janice Dougherty and employs approximately fifty–three thousand employees with an estimated seven billion dollars in annual revenue (Forbes, 2016). Although an immense amount of money, consider Danielle Kurtzleben's (2013) U.S. News article title which affirmed "Americans spend over $60 billion annually on their pets" (para 1). In other words, PetSmart has cornered a little less than thirteen percent of the American market. Interestingly, even an additional one percent gain in the overall market equates to millions of dollars. Additionally, to determine what the consuming public spend all this money on, one need look no further than the Worldwide Web for a product overview of PetSmart. Epstein (2016) reported, PetSmart, sells "... birds, guinea pigs, mice, turtles, lizards, and supplies for these and just about every other animal, excluding elephants, otters, walruses, panthers, and perhaps a few others" (para. 1). Also, during a recent visit to PetSmart where I purchased another fancy koi for a backyard pond, I discovered that along with the assortment of pets and supplies they offer for sale, they also provide pet grooming services and veterinary care. Personally, I was astonished at the variety of aquariums, lighting, and pets to name only a few of the items that were available for the adamant and casual animal lover. The thing that Petsmart needs to do better is advertise the different services that they offer. Before researching this company I had no idea that Petsmart offered veterinary practices inside their stores. I also learned that they do grooming and boarding. If the company did a better job of informing the public of these services then I'm sure they would see an increase in sales. Petsmart and Petco have a lot of pet stores across the country, so they could not recruit all the people who have good knowledge about the pet industry, and they hired the people who are the high school students. Last but not least, store location is one of the most important categories to evaluate the competitive strength. Their vision statement according to Petsmart Corporate is "We love pets and we believe pets make us better people. Petsmart will be the trusted partner to pet parents and pets in every moment of their lives." (2010). The following paper will analyze ways in which Petsmart can increase their ROI by focusing on innovation, sustainability and Six Sigma processes. Analysis The innovation that could help Petsmart increase their ROI is implementing a more vendor– managed inventory. Vendor–managed inventory is when "the vendor (supplier) is responsible for managing the inventory located at a customer's facility." (Swink, p. 267). According to Petsmart Strategic Audit (2015), "Petsmart implements a just–in–time inventory strategy by receiving goods only as they are needed" (p.27). I wanted to check on my guinea pig, Sparky, when I first woke up at six o'clock a.m. to see how he was doing. However, once I had lifted the small pink den that he slept under, I had discovered the ugly truth. The guinea pig that I had adopted from PetSmart nearly two weeks ago lay there unmoving, motionless. I had tried picking him up to put him in his small carrier, but he was very stiff and heavy, so I decided to leave him until my parents had found out. He's really dead, isn't he? I thought to myself. I could already feel the tears forming in my eyes, and my sight started becoming very blurry. I slowly walked downstairs to tell my mom, and I could tell that she was also sad about it. Though, it seemed as if both her and my dad had already thought something like this might happen, even if they didn't say anything about it. "It's not your fault," my mom told me. "It's the pet store's. They didn't tell us if he had any certain condition and they probably didn't have him tested for any illnesses at all recently." Once I had finished getting ready for school and got on the bus, I started telling anyone that I knew well and felt comfortable talking to about the incident, though I feel like I should have asked them how their Christmas break went and talked about the fun things both of us did instead. • 29. Persuasive Animal Animals With any six year old, getting a puppy is the best time of a kids life. Going to the shelter or pet store and seeing a puppy jump up and want to be petted and played with fills you with a kind of joy like nothing else has in your short life. Well, that's how I felt. In 2005, I got my first puppy. We went from building to building, looking at different dogs. Some places we stayed to play, and others we left immediately. The size of the cages was practically nonexistent and the smell of feces was overpowering. Unlike the naturally playful nature of puppies, the ones at the stores were subdued, almost as if they were drugged. Little did I know, we left those places because my parents suspected they were being filled by puppy mills. Finally, we got a beagle from a shelter who was picked up as a stray. Beautiful, tri–colored, and purebred, we named our new puppy Bailey. What we still didn't know is she had a disease that killed puppies that are kept in close proximity to an infected dog. Our beautiful, loving puppy had parvovirus. However, she beat the odds and survived! Our carpets, on the other hand, did not. She lived a long, happy life running through our neighborhood with my brother and I. Turning open the lid of the plastic container, I reached inside and took out a pinch of the musty–smelling fish food flakes. I sprinkled the flakes over the water in the fish tank and watched as the 5 fish swam up, gulping up the thin copper, crimson, and mahogany colored flakes. I watched until the fish swam away, finished with their meal. I then closed the hatch, put away and closed the jar of fish food, and walked out of my room. Feeding time was over.
