Editor's Notes
Early childhood is between birth and the age of eight, and during that time there is a rapid growth of development. Social skills, self-esteem, cognitive skills, and the perception of the world will be formed during those years. During those critical years, it is important that children get the proper education to get proper growth and nurturing to all of those fundamentals.
Children learn from proper guidance, play, and their surroundings, such as their friends and family. It is vital that all of their surroundings are nurturing and educating. Children will quickly learn from people around them from their actions and words. Play may seem unimportant, but it allows children to learn by having hands-on experience, which is way having play areas or learning centers are wonderful in a classroom.
Parents and educators are responsible for educating children as a team. Communication is important between the both of them to ensure that the student gets the most out of their education. Without proper communication and teamwork, the student will not get the most out of their education. Between the parent and the educator we can find out how to teach the way they learn.
The goal of Early Childhood Education is well-rounded child development. When all of the domains are included students not only get an education, but also develop socially, mentally, physically, and gain cognitive skills.
Educators have multiple of options when teaching children, so it can be difficult to choose the right path for the children. It is also possible that the teacher has to take more than one path because the students may have different learning styles or one may have a learning disability. Flexibility and an open mind are necessary when being an educator.
When someone decides to enter the field of Childhood Education, it is a lifelong dedication. Continuing my education after graduating is vital because Childhood Education will continue to grow even after I graduate, and it is not only important to learn what can help students learn but to be an influence for my students. A love for learning can be infectious. Having a classroom that is full of nourishment, caring, and enthusiasm is essential because it encourages the students to come to class every day and be excited to learn. I also believe that a being welcoming to every student not only makes them feel at home and comfortable, but it shows an example to the students. I cannot expect a student to be respectful and friendly to their classmates if I am not setting a right example. Knowledge should come from every aspect in a classroom; however, it should also be fun for the students. For example with learning centers or just going outside for recess, and lesson plans should have activities to allow the children to get involved. Classrooms should have unlimited opportunities for the students, and this will help child development in each domain. A classroom should not be centered on one domain, such as language or physical, but be a mixture of all, so every student has an opportunity to excel in each domain. To be able to get each quality of my philosophy into my available time for a classroom it is important to have management skills and organization. Not only does this help me, but it will also help the students get used to a schedule and feel calm with a clean environment.
I am a firm believer in Albert Einstein's philosophy of teaching because it shows that not every student is the same because not everyone learns the same as everyone else and because everyone has their talent. Part of my philosophy is that I will not look at the students as a group but as individuals. I will make sure to educate each student in the way he or she needs to further their education. Every student needs personal attention to help better understand their needs and wants in the classroom. If a student is made to think that he or she is stupid, then their motivation of learning will disappear.
I will continue to be dedicated to my philosophy of teaching and also keep adding to it as my career grows to better my philosophy. Welcoming criticism and feedback will help improve my philosophy of teaching by either changing it or adding something new. I will continue learning from my students.
Positive and proper childhood development is the most important in my philosophy, however for those to be accomplished an encouraging and caring classroom must be obtained with plenty of opportunities and a well-managed classroom.
