4. Industrial designer Yves Béhar of Fuseproject is the designer of the Jambox.
Jawbone has approached design with the goal of seamlessly integrating
technology and everyday life. As previously mentioned, Jawbone believes
that innovative product design is what unites their achievements in science,
technology, engineering and craft, bringing each element together to form a
single quality product in a beautiful package. As the embodiment of Jawbone’s
overarching design philosophy - “Sound Designed for Your Life” - BIG JAMBOX
was built on the foundation that empathy for the users’ lifestyles inspires better
design.
This design ecosystem is expressed through:
a) Clear geometric forms and a refined simplicity
b) Relief textures that are functional, tactile and visually stunning
c) Unique, proprietary materials and manufacturing processes
Who is the designer?
A modern Classic...
To maximize performance and minimize obstructions, perforated metal wraps
the front, top, back, and underside of BIG JAMBOX. A series of patented relief
textures are applied to the metal minimizing vibration and maximizing the
structural integrity and robustness. The grill provide a visual playfulness as the
light catches and defines the subtle relief. Using principles of minimalist design,
fewer parts and simpler assembly, Yves
Behar designed the JAMBOX to be
portable, robust and have maximum
sound output integrity which brings an
artisan quality to the JAMBOX’s pure box
aesthetic.
He also designed the communications
around the JAMBOX, starting with the
simple sneaker-box packaging that
romanticizes the original boombox,
“that was then”, with new modes of
consuming and sharing music, “this is
now”.

6. The design of the Jamcube was inspired by a minimalist version of the Rubik’s
cube, a 3D mechanical puzzle that was invented by a sculptor and an
architecture professor, Erño Rubik.
The correlation of a classic made simple is the goal of the design while keeping
the playfulness and colourfulness in the design. Achiving this goal should interest
people of all ages while being functional and entertaining.JAMCUBE is the
purest expression of the Jawbone design ethos.
The pure proportions and geometry are the first elements one notices which
bear the distinct colours and patterns that visually reflect the Jambox.
Although the Rubik’s cube is a mind twister, this design isn’t!
The complexity is replaced by colorful visual simlicity. The Jamcube cublets spin
around themselves only, in an effort to show different colour combinations for
the caps and grills.
