Pegasus is a winged horse from Greek mythology and is the son of Poseidon. There are two versions of how Pegasus was born - either from Medusa's pregnant body after she was slain by Perseus, or from the mingling of Medusa's blood and sea foam. In either case, Bellerophon was able to tame Pegasus with a golden bridle and used him to kill the monster Chimera, after which Pegasus rose to the heavens and became the northern constellation that bears his name.
