The third labor assigned to Heracles by Eurystheus was to capture the Golden Hind of Artemis. Eurystheus hoped this task would result in Heracles' death, as the hind was known for being extremely fast. After a year-long chase through Greece and surrounding areas, Heracles caught the hind but promised the goddess Artemis he would return it. Artemis forgave Heracles' capture of her sacred animal. When Heracles brought the hind to Eurystheus, he was told it would join the king's collection of animals.
