pressure
What is peer pressure
 Peer pressure is the direct influence on
people by peers, or the effect on an individual
who is encouraged and wants to follow their
peers by changing their attitudes, values or
behaviors to conform to those of the
influencing group or individual.
Types of peer pressure
POSITIVE NEGATIVE
Positive PEER
PRESSURE
Positive peer pressure is when
someone's peers influence them
to do something positive or
growth building. For
example, peers who are
committed to doing well in school
or at sport can influence others to
be more goal orientated.
Similarly, peers who are kind, loyal
or supportive influence others to
be the same.
Negative peer
pressure
Negative peer pressure, on the
other hand, involves pressure to do
something dangerous or damaging
to themselves or others.
Here some examples of negative
peer pressure:
• Convincing a friend to skip
school.
• Pushing someone to
buy e-cigarettes online.
• Pressuring a friend to
drink or try drugs.
• Encouraging a peer to
fight someone or bully
someone.
REASONS FOR PEER
PRESSURE
 Ignorance.
 Loss of self confidence.
 Mental Issues
IGNORANCE
Teens who have negligence fro their parents, friends and
people who thought would turn out to be their support are
‘LAGGED BEHIND’.
LOSS OF SELF
CONFIDENCE
People who think that they are unintelligent, unpopular
and unattractive are more valuable to peer pressure their
acceptance is not approved.
MENTAL ISSUES
Mental illness, also called mental health disorders,
refers to a wide range of mental health conditions —
disorders that affect your mood, thinking and behavior.
Examples of mental illness include depression,
anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders and
addictive behaviors.
