Friendship is a relationship between people based on mutual affection and shared interests and values like caring, respect and trust. There are three kinds of friendship: based on pleasure, usefulness, and virtue. A good friend in Islam has strong faith, wisdom, and good character. Friendship differs from love in that it involves trust rather than sacrifice, allows for multiple friends rather than one, and lacks a physical element. Qualities of friendship include sympathy, enjoyment of company, kindness, understanding and loyalty. To make friends, one should participate in shared interests and be cheerful, genuine and willing to give as well as take in the relationship.
