Musical Theatre - PEER OBSERVATION
Instructions - Give this sheet to another member of the group. Ask them to fill in the
first two sections and you must fill in the response in the third section.
Name of observer: Alfie Damps
Name of performer being observed: Cerys Cook
Workshop/Rehearsal: Staging of Dear Evan Hansen
The observer must make comments on each of the following:
1. Professional Attitude
Comments
Punctuality & Attendance Cerys is always punctual and ready to
work.
Readiness to Work Cerys always has a readiness to work
as she’s very enthusiastic to get started
with practical work.
Communication with other company
members during the rehearsal
Cerys always helps other company
members and always has feedback for
them so that they are able to improve
their characterisation and staging.
Focus and attitude during the rehearsal She is very focused and has a positive
attitude to improve the piece and
develop it further. Sometimes she can
trail off focus because of always
overworking the staging, but she always
comes back to it.
Ability to take on board feedback from
other company members and use it to
improve own work
Cerys will always take feedback and
make improvements towards her work.
It is clear that when she is given
feedback, she creates ideas that allow
her to develop.

2. Conduct during rehearsals - Did this person behave in a positive and
focused way during rehearsals? Assess their contribution to the
success of the rehearsal. Please be as specific as possible
Whilst staging Dear Evan Hansen, Cerys was thinking about different ways to
incorporate choreography whilst also thinking about the characterisation of the
characters, each of them having their own distinct personalities. As the character
Evan Hansen she makes sure to capture his nervous, anxious characteristics. She
has good pace and energy in rehearsals, and staging the piece. She’s always
enthusiastic towards practical work and is always willing to get started. Sometimes
she does lose focus and trails off, so my feedback would be to try and stick to the
piece more.
3. Performer response - will you make any changes to your working
practises following this observation? Be specific
In response to this feedback, I am pleased to see that my aim of portraying Evan
Hansen’s nervous and anxious characteristics is evident within my performances
during rehearsals, as this was something I felt came as a bit of a challenge to me as
I had never played a character quite like it before, therefore it has pushed me out of
my comfort zone. Despite this I will take on the feedback of my peers and aim to stay
more focused and get less distracted within our next rehearsals to come. One way I
will work on doing this is by not working on the same aspect for too long and try and
cover many different aspects throughout the rehearsal.
