Towards a new project's culture for immersive and participatory projectsPedro Medina Reinón
Conference of the "Performing Cultural Heritage in the Digital Present" program, at DRHA 2023, Turin, 09/12/2023.
The context of the digital image and, above all, a deeper reflection on the ontology of the digital universe is a field that would require a more in-depth analysis, so here only some considerations are pointed out about the different forms of appearance and use of the digital image within the perspectiveof "extended reality", from augmented to virtual reality, thinking about the possibilities that are being created for the entire field of audiovisual arts. In this case we focus on reflecting on what we consider "participation" in different projects.
Our interest – inter esse (what is between or relates to several people) – has shifted towards this interdisciplinarity as the main way to develop creative and innovative projects, becoming a propaedeutic attitude from which to face complex projects. Indeed, his approach already in sociologists like Louis Wirtz appears as a response precisely to the complexity of the world, which is now also going through a deep computational turn.
The current general scenario for any activity takes place in an atmosphere of infinite metamorphosis. Suffering it or understanding it as an opportunity is up to us. Therefore, in this context, the project culture recognizes that it is not possible to speak of “innovation” (discovery + application) without associating it with “collaboration”, when planning the future scope of creation.
In this context, the “co-design” between professionals and amateur agents creates a new “culture of participation”, typical of the postindustrial world, which thinks of innovation from an overlap of networks, connection nodes that speak of a decentralized and mobile reality. Therefore, to the interdisciplinary logic claimed, we must add the active involvement of all the subjects involved in any project. We therefore need new languages for new experiences that allow us to consider ethically, politically and communicatively the new global context, thus rewriting the constellations of interests of the consolidated systems. An interesting field of experimentation then opens up where local and global realities meet at open intersections, a novum still to be explored.
In the second part, various case studies are presented to understand the implications of a truly participatory and horizontal project culture as an engine of innovation:
- Mapping Madrid
- Las Manuelas
- MadridDesignNet
-Turin City of Design
And finally, the first premises of the ongoing research project "Forms of culture" are shown, within "Connective tissues” (Tejidos conjuntivos) in the MNCARS, to propose disorientation strategies, which serve to dismantle models dominated by an ideology, and in short the need to create new orientation systems to describe other cartographies not of places, but of relationships.

The CMD’s mission is to be the leading public advocate in the city of the economic and cultural importance of design. It financially and logistically supports and stimulates private and public initiatives related to design in the city. It assists local entrepreneurs in launching their ventures, coordinates interaction between designers, design managers, business executives, academics and policy makers and promotes the importance of design to the city’s economy.
One way that the CMD is working to draw attention to design as a tool of economic growth is the revitalization of the southern end of Barracas, by turning it into a design district. The Project Design District is still being formulated, but plans have focused on offering preferential loans, tax cuts, and subsidies for the restoration of buildings to design related companies that would install their offices or workshops in the area surrounding the CMD.

Fashion Design and Technology – What makes it unique.docxnewdelhiymca
To the time people would continue to view the profile of a fashion designer through a mundane perspective, the job would be nothing beyond design, sewing, and making an outfit. First of all, a designer has a unique perspective toward the world of fashion, and that is what makes them stand apart from all. The job of a fashion designer does not stop after a cutting and tailoring course in Delhi.

Self-production and Craft: Advanced Processes Towards Social InnovationLoughborough University
This paper analyzes some self-production and craft processes which can contribute to social innovation. Object of this research is the concept of self-production, considered as a human-centered design process held by a designer-maker who, working within a community of artisans or a platform of digital fabrication, manages the entire process, from design, to production, distribution and communication.
This research covers a broad spectrum of material that relates to the changing landscape within the design world and beyond, drawing the heterogeneity and complexity of self-production. Diverse approaches developed in the contemporary design scene have been mapped, defining new relationships and highlighting peculiarities, strengths and weaknesses. Linking these diverse approaches is the new role of the designer, who embraces wider areas and acts as catalyst of social
innovation, actively involving diverse actors in the design process. Such a figure embodies both the designer’s knowledge and the maker’s know-how, implementing either artisan productions or digital fabrications, shared within a close relationship with craft communities or virtual platforms for Do-It-Yourself. Self-production seems to be not an anachronistic situation, but an interesting opportunity, which addresses the increasing demand for flexible and diversified productions, able to connect local
realities with global markets. Such an approach seems to provide young designers with a viable opportunity to start from the bottom, opening up new start-ups on their own to counter the current crisis of the work world. Design can be a key guide for transforming the current scenario into an advanced craftsmanship. It has to rescue its social and economic relevance and foster local innovative initiatives that seek social innovation and sustainable development of a territory.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
9. This is Tomorrow
Introduction 1
DESIGN AS A HUMAN ACTIVITY
The exhibition called This is Tomorrow is devoted to
the possibilities of collaboration between architects,
painters, and sculptors (…) Early modern art is full of
theories concerning the integration of all the arts,
with realisation of the ideals scheduled for another
time. But yesterday’s tomorrow is not today - and the
ideal of symbiotic art architecture has not been
achieved.
