The Difference between American and German Thinking
The way Germans and Americans think is totally opposite. Germans think deductively, and take a
scientific approach. On the other hand Americans tend to think inductively, they first form a goal
and figure out the details later. These styles but head because Germans often think of the American
approach as unrealistic. The negative side to the German thinking is that while are German is
planning an American may beat him to putting an item on the market. The Americans might not be
100 percent error free but they got the product out first. Communication styles are also very
different in the two countries. Americans do not like to disagree with one another. They hardly ever
tend to respond with firm answers and try to beat around the bush and try to politely tell someone
no. Germanslike to debate with each other when they are facing a problem. If a German disagrees
with you they will be sure that it is made know.
A difference between Germany and America is freedom vs. security. Americans believe in having
freedom even at the cost of sacrificing security. Germans on the other hand like to have security.
They like to be able to plan ahead for long periods of time. They find the fact that in the US a
person can be fired from their job for almost no reason at all very distressing. There is also a great
difference in freedom of speech in the two countries. For example in the US racist Nazi
propaganda would be legal where in Germany it is completely illegal. The American view is I

Metallica Research Paper
Metallica is considered one of the first metal bands of the early eighties. They are a part of the
big four, the other three include Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. The metal genre is proven to
have the biggest fan base over any other genre. In this article I will only be talking about their
early years and going up to their first four albums. Most diehard Metallicafans will argue that their
first four albums are true Metallica and after that they went mainstream to try and branch out to
other audiences.
Metallica was formed in Los Angeles, in late 1981 when Danish born drummer Lars Ulrich placed
an advertisement in a Los Angeles newspaper The Recycler, which read, Drummer looking for
other metal musicians to jam with. Guitarists James Hetfield ... Show more content on

In 1983, Metallica recorded their first album Kill em All. Metallica recorded its second studio
album,Ride the Lightning, at Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was released
in August 1984 and reached number 100 on the Billboard 200. Although Mustaine was kicked
out he still received credit for writing Ride the Lightning and The Call of Ktulu . Metallica s
third album Master of Puppets was recorded in March of 1986 at the same studio. On September
27, 1986, during the European leg of Metallica s Damage, Inc. Tour, members drew cards to
determine which bunks on the tour bus they would sleep in. Burton won and chose to sleep in
Hammett s bunk. At around sunrise near Dorarp, Sweden, the bus driver lost control and skidded,
which caused the bus to overturn several times. Ulrich, Hammett, and Hetfield sustained no
serious injuries; however, bassist Burton was pinned under the bus and died. Burtons death was
unexpected and led the band to not know what to do. The same year they recruited bassist Jason
Newsted. Metallica s first studio album since Burton s death, And Justice for All, was released in
1988. In 1989, Metallica received its first Grammy Award nomination for And Justice for All in the

Small Group Reflection
In the summer of 2013, I participated in the Calvin College Entrada Scholar program, a four week
intensive program for racial ethnic minority high school students to experience college learning and
living while earning college credit. Creating an international community was a huge theme in this
program, students were not allowed to have their computers, games, nor be on their phones.
Another way that the program encouraged community was with small group devotion with students
floormates and designated floor RA.
I remember one week, the theme within the small groups was sharing our narratives. My small
group consisted of a total of nine female students and our RA. Our discussion lasted about 2 hours
that night mainly because our RA established a safe and open environment, she was someone we
loved and trusted within a short time of knowing her.
The small group narrative used a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our small group was the definition of people that are often marginalized, minority women. I am
not saying that we were not empowered, being in that group alone after hearing everyone
struggles was empowering. However, after our discussion there was no direction to where to go
from there, after opening up. I personally could not look at others the same way after hearing their
stories. A solution would had been a follow up small group discussion before departing from the
program, but with only small group meetings once a week it is difficult to implement this idea. In
addition, I understand that our RA did not have training in social work, mentoring, or psychology,
she was a Speech Path major. In the small group the most we could do was sympathize with each
other, but not truly lift them up and congratulated them in overcoming their hardships and help
them decide their next step after this

Wrong With Georgia
In recent discussions of Georgia s economy, the controversial issue has been whether or not it s
top ranking business climate has been beneficial to the state. On the one hand, Mark Arend s
Georgia Holds on to First Place, argues Georgia is great for business, with Georgia being ranked #1
by Site Selection magazine for best statefor business, because of its workforce training program
(Quick Start), logistics infrastructure, and the governor s High Demand Career Initiative. On the
other hand, Elena Semuels What s Wrong With Georgia contends while Georgia is great for

Arend argues the reason Georgia has been ranked #1 two consecutive years by Site Selection
magazine is because of its work force training program (Quick Start), logistics infrastructure, and
public education system. Semuels refutes this claims by pointing out Georgia has had the
highest unemployment rate 3 consecutive months, terrible transportation, and decline in
educational funding. Semuels provides details to these claims with Georgia having an
unemployment rate of 7.2, while the national average is 5.8; even the Quick Start program does
not help Home Depot had to go out of state to find workers to fill their positons because lack of
highly skilled workers in Georgia. The state ranks 49th in per capita in transportation funding,
and has cut the public education budget by 8.3 billion. Overall, Semuels does a great job of
using statistics and citizen interviews to show Georgia really has a problem. Georgia is a great
state for business mainly for the tax breaks cooperate companies get from the state, but for the
workers looking for jobs it is really detrimental. Georgia thought lowering taxes would stimulate the
economy, but it backfired. As Semuels points out, It might be a long time before things get back to

Keurig Green Mountain And Its Operations
After reviewing the financial and performance information related to Keurig Green Mountain and
its operations, I would recommend holding the Keurig Green Mountain stock. Keurig has a high
degree of leverage and has the ability to take on more debt to finance its expansion of operations. As
Keurig Green Mountain navigates managing strong sales in current markets and expanding into
untapped markets, it will also have to manage criticism about sustainability and face legal
consequences stemming from product recalls. Balancing the strong growth potential with
challenging strategic issues will help determine Keurig s unpredictable stockprice.

In February 2015, Keurig announced a contractual stock repurchase plan. Keurig Green

from Luigi Lavazza at a price of $119.18 per share. (The purchase price represents a 3.0%
discount off the closing price of Keurig common stock on February 20, 2015). This repurchase
will be financed through Keurig s cash reserves and existing credit. Stock repurchase programs
are often used by companies as an efficient use of excess cash. Stock buyback programs are often
regarded as signal that shares are undervalued and are expected to rise in the future.
In March of 2015, Keurig acquired DS Services. Through the acquisition of DS Services, Keurig

Moving With Your Pet Cat Essay
Moving with your pet cat is harder than moving with other pets. This is because cats have hard
times adjusting. Cats have minds of their own and they are likely to stick closely to their usual
routines. You might always think that moving is very tiring and stressful but your cat is more
stressed. He doesn t know what s going on, of course. Even he is just a pet. You must consider his
needs in order to have a stress free moving. It will bring ease to your catand to you. To help your
cat understand what s going on, pack early. He will notice the things in your house kept little by
little and it will surely give him an idea that you ll be going to a new place soon. In a matter of
time, your cat will be adjusting to the boxes around your house that he ll start sniffing and
maybe even sleeping on them. Just like a human being, shocking your cat by packing only a few
days before moving will depress him and make him anxious. Never make any sudden,
unnecessary changes especially in your cat s daily routine. Feed him the usual time you feed
him. Let him find his place in the house where he ll be comfortable enough to sleep and play in
that area. Keep his toys near so that he won t wander. Make sure that he still gets the same
treatment that he gets before. These things will make him feel that no matter where you take him,
he still feels at home and secure. Don t forget to buy your cat a new Id tag with your latest home

Willy Loman Is To Blame
In this essay I will be writing about how much Willy Loman is to blame and is not to blame for
his own actions. Willy Loman is a sixty three year old man who is depicted to be on the verge of
a breakdown. Loman is a very delusional character who appears to live predominantly in the
past, which is made clear from his tone and Miller s stage directions which demonstrate the use
of expressionism. At the heart of everything Willy does, lay his children: Biff and Happy. All the
same, every dream Willy ever has had has been rooted by the idea of the American Dream the
idea of having the perfect and idealistic life where anyone can become successful as long as they
are well liked. This idea is carried throughout the play and becomes personified... Show more

The son a pioneer inventor and the slave of the industrialised world, Willy Loman exemplifies the
victim of a changing capitalistic society. Arthur Miller eludes to this even in the character s name
Loman, which pronounced correctly reveals the words Low man. Death of a Salesman engages the
audiences conflicting attitudes toward this changing society: fear of the new and unfamiliar
and to accommodate technology to cultural mythologies by subordinating it personally. This is
evident in Howard s office, who is Willy s boss. In this scene Willy is going to ask to work in
New York but instead of getting his office job, he is fired. Willy has now lost everything: his
years of service, his pride and his salary because he is no longer as productive as he once was.
This scene not only marks a tragic point in Willy s life it also gives proof of the changes that
occur in a capitalist system. Willy s termination goes along with the out with the old and in with
the new theory of such a system. Again, this leaves us thinking that as a tragic protagonist, Willy
Loman is not culpable for his own actions; In fact, society is. If capitalist views had not become
the culture for 1940 America then perhaps Willy would not be suffering like he is. He became a
salesman because he was told and believed that if he was a salesman, who was well liked and
therefore successful, then he

The Backbone Of A Recreational Sport And Organization
CHAPTER TWO: REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Chapter Overview
Introduction
The backbone of a recreational sport and organization are the volunteers committed to the success
and continuation of the organization. The most important group of individuals within a youth
sports organization is volunteer coaches (Bouchet and Lehe, pg. 21, 2010). The diversity of a
community organization requires many unique needs to be addressed and serviced. The greater the
diversity of a group, the more likely different individuals with varied backgrounds are required. The
influence of volunteers allows youth teams and leagues to fill their needs (Bouchet and Lehe,
2010). Volunteer recreational sports organizations are then charged with identifying and convincing

Regardless the reason for their involvement, the general disposition of these coaches presents an
opportunity for education and increasing efficacy. Volunteer coaches were sought to have an
intentional disposition to learning for reasons such as inquisitiveness, self efficacy, and open
mindedness (Griffiths and Armour, 2013). Additionally, the disposition of reciprocity for volunteer
coaches to gain knowledge included reasons of cooperation and mutual exchange of information
(Griffiths and Armour, 2013). The review of literature intends to display the research surrounding
volunteer recreational youth sport coaches, the motivators for participation, and the educational
opportunities for this population.
Terms and Definitions A key to defining this group and their responsibilities is to explain their
status. The term volunteer is defined as, persons who did unpaid work (except for expenses)
through or for an organization (USDL, 2015). The nature of a professional, or someone who is paid
for their work, demonstrates an implicit motivator in the payment. The duties and responsibilities
that are performed by the person whether the duties are assigned or created by the person also have
a general connotation. The collection of activities these individuals perform is known in the
literature as volunteering (Stebbins, 2009, Wilson,

What Is Phineas Gage Case
The Curious Case of Phineas Gage On the date of September 13th, 1848, one of the greatest
medical miracles in history occurred. Not only was this case amazing, it was sounded too
unbelievable to most and became liken into an old folk tale. However, this was no folk tale. The
story of the living mad with a rod in his head was true and it stunned the entire medical community.
This is the story of Phineas Gage. Working on a railroad is a dangerous job even in modern times.
Thousands of people are hurt either working on railroads or being around railroads each year
(Schottenstein, 2015). Therefore, as you can imagine, injuries and deaths were happening at an
even higher rate in the 1800s. Phineas Gage was a railroad worker doing a job in Vermont... Show

Gage did, according to Harlow, retain full possession of his reason after the accident, but his wife
and other people close to him soon began to notice dramatic changes in his personality (Constandi,
2006). Brain injury can often cause this type of personality change. It has been documented in
many different cases. However, post injury personality changes also meant that we dealt with
bouts of intense anger, confusion, and unpredictable behavior (Cromer, 2012). These types of
personality can differ, however they are usually negative. This was seen in the case of Phineas
Gage. Sadly his personality and temperament wasn t the only thing that changed. Before the
accident he was considered as one of the best workers on the job site (Constandi, 2006).
However, after the injury, he could hardly work. (Constandi, 2006). His contractors, who
regarded him as the most efficient and capable foreman in their employ previous to his injury,
considered the change in his mind so marked that they could not give him his place again. He is
fitful, irreverent, indulging at times in the grossest profanity (which was not previously his
custom), manifesting but little deference for his fellows, impatient of restraint of advice when it
conflicts with his desires, at times pertinaciously obstinent, yet capricious and vacillating,
devising many plans of future operation, which are no sooner arranged than they are abandoned
in turn for others appearing more feasible. In this regard, his mind was radically changed, so
decidedly that his friends and acquaintances said he was no longer Gage. (Constandi, 2006). He
sadly resorted to using his injury as an attraction to make money. He began traveling to do
appearances so that people could see the injury and pay him for the entertainment (Constandi,
2006). He even decided to join up with the circus for a short period of time

Surrealism Essay
This essay will examine the relationship between surrealism and artist film, cinema and gallery
work. An art film is a motion picture originally created for a confined audience as opposed to a
mass market. Art films provide opportunities to display unique conventions independent from
mainstream film. They re clear differences between the two movements film presents a clear
purpose of action opposed to the social realism style often seen in art films where the focal points

However, there is a flaw in this method to transmit Surrealism, as art films are only accessible to
a limited market and are thus unable to expose the unconscious and adapt it with rational life.
This makes it impossible to achieve the goal of successfully changing or influencing social
attitudes and behaviour. Cinema is a valuabe creative genre and can be a global form of
commuinication. No words are needed to explore various cultures or dispute political
perspective. Film enables viewers the chance to see the same message in many different ways.
Films are also cultural expression created by particular cultures in order to affect said culture or
potray said culture. The 1928 L Etoile de Mer (The Starfish) is directed by Man Ray and is based
on a poem written by Robert Desnos. The film represents the Surreal movement by illustrating the
change in direction of artistic vision. The film focuses on examining the different emotions and
moods present throughout a love story but also opposes narrative apprehension and challenges the
views on love depicted in mainstream representation. L Etoile de

Haitian Revolution Dbq
The Haitian Revolution took place in 1791. One of the main Factors which led to the success of the
revolution is the collapse and the malfunction of the French Monarchy. In France, the revolutionary
government was considering equality. The governor at the time implemented the idea of equality
for all blacks and whites to bend, he also mandated that slaveryabolished. Instead of the people of
France agreeing with him they Beheaded him and killed his members. The salves thought that they
had been freed in the Caribbean which resulted in their starting to resist and revolt on the basis that
the planter were hiding their freedom from them. They wanted to be free and not be beaten

France s orders by attacking L Ouverture and his forces. L Ouverture was able to calmly respond

his advanced diplomatic ability. He also proved advanced military ability by defending cities
against French Gen. Rochambeau. One specific battle was at La Croix, during which L
Ouverture fought off Rochambeau s force which far outnumbered his own (304). Dessalines

his reputation had such a lasting effect that he became a heroic figure for anti slavery activism

Thesis Statement: I believe that a profound effect on Indian religion practiced in the New World

were Europeans on this continent, there were native peoples living in communion with their
environment and, very often, each other. Their religious practices were interwoven with their daily
lives and religion held a prominent, significant place within their culture. The intrusion by
Europeans into this peaceful world had profound effects on the Indians, especially their religious

U.s. Presidential Election On The United States
There will be a U.S. presidential election on November 8, 2016. Whether you identify as a
Republican, a Democrat, or somewhere in between, there is no denying that Donald Trump and
Hillary Clinton are two highly controversial candidates. While it is difficult to tell where most
Americans stand on the election issue, it is easy to see that ancient Chinese Legalist thinkers would
be staunch supporters of Donald Trump. Legalist ideas seem to be the foundation upon which Trump
s Republican Party was built. Even Trump s slogan, Make America Great Again, is echoed in the
Legalist notion of becoming a strong country with impenetrable borders. Though I, along with
many Americans, disagree with Trump on many points, his taxand welfare policies seem to be
based on logic, especially in the context of Chinese history. However, America is not ready for a
president who has illustrated such a flagrant disregard for the law. Just as the Legalist regime in
China was short lived, so should be Trump s time in the limelight.
Han Feizi and Shang Yang, Legalist thinkers in ancient China, would vote for Donald Trump in the
upcoming election. While Feizi, Yang, and Trump agree on many fundamental points, taxation and
welfare policy are the most significant. Feizi stated in his teachings, now if the ruler levies money
from the rich in order to give alms to the poor, he is robbing the diligent and frugal and indulging
the lazy and extravagant. If he expects by such a means to induce the people

Norm Violations Paper
As we know, norms are social expectations that guide our behavior. In this paper, I will discuss
norm violations that I ve observed, and my own personal norm violation that I committed. I will
describe what happened, what was done, and the reactions of the people around when these norms
begat. I will also discuss the significance of folkways, mores, values, and sanctions to my
observations.
There were two norms in which I observed. The first violation I spotted was a bit... out of the
ordinary. One day, I decided to take a trip to the Marketplace on Ming with one of my buddies.
All was seemingly normal until we stumbled upon a sight that shocked both of us. It was around
7:30 p.m. when we walked upon a pack of humans standing in a circle with their dogs. They were
located where the suit stores and black tables are. As we first walked up, there seemed to be
only a few dogs and a few humans. As we drew nearer, though, we found that there were at least
30 humans and 30 dogs. That was unbelievable. As we got within sight of the subjects, they all
turned and looked at us at the same exact time. Both the human faction and the dogs
simultaneously turned to us. My friend and I could not, at the time, decipher which party was in
control, the humans or the dogs? My friend and I decided that this sight was... too much... so we
decided to slowly walk away in a backward manner. Having

Managing Strategic Change at the Hmv Group
Managing Strategic Change At The HMV Group |
1. IntroductionHMV Group announced a three year strategic and operational review in March
2007. The primary purpose of this dissertation is to analyse the methods used to manage this
strategic change and to discuss alternatives. The secondary focus is to assess the decision to
change. At a time of change, much focus is placed upon developing strategy and not enough on the
implementation and management side. It is possible that a perfect strategy for a situation is wasted
by poor implementation. A specific strategy can be developed over night, however; successful
strategy implementation is a much longer process. In order to analyse HMV Group s change
management efforts, it is crucial to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ParadoxThere are many paradoxical issues present in change management. Just one manifestation
of this would be middle managers withholding information they are given to disseminate because
they wish to retain their knowledgeable image; defeating the point of a middle manager. Michael E
Raynor (2007) in his book entitled The Strategy Paradox presents the idea that a successful strategy
requires the full commitment of the organisation, which leads to unsuccessful performance overall;
due to over commitment. Flood and Dresher s (1950) Prisoners Dilemma, applied to the world of
business, will also conclude that non competition is the most effective path in the long run. Both
imply that strong competition efforts eventually lead to failure that mediocrity is the best route to
follow as companies have a silent agreement to operate in a state of equilibrium. However, in the
case of HMV Group, its operating industry is in decline; therefore failure is the only eventuality of
a failure to compete. ContextAs identified above, much of the literature on the subject of managing
strategic change has an element of paradox attached to it. The logical reason for this is that
different methods depend on the circumstances the organisation is faced with. As there are no exact
laws of change management, this is what makes the subject complex; but more interesting. Most of
the literature aims to provide a theory for each and every eventuality;

Lack Of Self-Confidence On Softball Field And In The...
Throughout high school, I encountered the challenge of confidence. My lack of self confidence
affected my skills on the softball field and in the classroom. Overcoming my fear of making
mistakes taught me the importance of confidence on and off the field.
Limited playing time on my travel ball team challenged my trust in myself. Making mistakes on the
field became one of my biggest fears. During one major recruiting tournament in the summer prior
to my junior year, I couldn t properly field a ball that came my way. My performance in this
tournament made me question my confidence and my ability to play at the college level. This lack
of confidence I developed carried into my school work. I was afraid to answer questions in class

Characteristics Of The Leopard
The Leopard
Long ago, the leopard and the Ethiopian, his white hunting companion, lived in a place called the
High Veldt. The two dominated this vast grassland, and they were able to hunt and catch any
animal they wished. Their favorite meals consisted of the plain sandy yellow brown coated giraffe
and zebra. One sunny day, the giraffe and zebra were hiding from the leopard and Ethiopian within
the shadows of the trees. Mysteriously, jagged shadow shapes appeared on the fur of the giraffe
and the zebra. The prey became permanently striped and spotted and were so well camouflaged
that the leopard and Ethiopian were now incapable of finding lunch. The two hunters knew they
needed to up their game, so the Ethiopian turned his skin black. The leopard asked his companion
to give him spots so he could blend in, too. The Ethiopian pressed his five fingertips all over the
leopard s plain coat; both of them were now camouflaged just like the giraffe and zebra.
This retelling of Rudyard Kipling s How the Leopard Got His Spots is a fanciful fable which
portrays the cunning nature of the leopard. Besides its stealthiness and competitiveness, this
spotted wonder possesses several other traits which display God s originality in creating it. In order
to understand the significance of the leopard, one must understand its physical characteristics and
behavior, unique habitat and hunting strategies, and extreme threats to its existence.

Essay Informative Speech About Tattoos
It seems like everyone has one these days. What used to be the property of sailors, outlaws, and
biker gangs is now a popular body decoration for many people. And it s not just anchors, skulls, and
battleships anymore, from school emblems to Celtic designs to personalized symbols; people have
found many ways to express themselves with them. Maybe you ve thought about getting one. Well
before you head down to the nearest tattooshop and roll up your sleeve, there are a few things you

Although it looks a lot cooler than a big scab, a new tattoo is also a wound and like any other
scrape, puncture, cut or penetration to your skin, a tattoo is at risk for infections and disease.
You need to make sure you are up to date with your immunizations (especially hepatitis and
tetanus shots) and plan where you will get medical care if your new tattoo does become
infected. Signs of infection include excessive redness or tenderness, prolonged bleeding, pus, or
changes in your skin color around the tattoo. If you have a medical problem such as heart
disease, allergies, diabetes, skin disorders or any condition that affects your immune system or are
prone to infections, you should ask your doctor before deciding to get a tattoo. Also, if you are
prone to getting keloids (an overgrowth of scar tissue in the area of the wound), it s probably best
to avoid getting a tattoo altogether.
Avoiding Infection It s very important to make sure the tattoo studio is clean and safe, and that all
equipment is disposable (needles, gloves, masks, etc.) and that everything is sterilized. You can call
your state, county, or local health department to ask for recommendations on licensed tattoo shops,
or to ask about any complaints about a particular studio.
Professional studios take pride in their cleanliness; here are a few things to check for:
Make sure the studio has an autoclave which is a device that

William Shakespeare s The Spanish Tragedy
Within literature, genre is determined by subject, setting and plot. In book shops and library s,
books are organized and categorised by genre, making it extremely easy for the reader to find
exactly what they are looking for. Generally, genre is very restricted often making writers feel as
though they must follow a specific set of rules and conventions if they want their piece of writing
to fall into a particular genre with a certain theme. Throughout my essay, I will look into how
Thomas Kyd s The Spanish Tragedyfollows the traditional techniques we typically assume will be
in a revenge tragedy, and how Shakespeare s Hamletfollows these conventions as well as how
Hamlet sometimes challenges the typical conventions of revenge tragedy plays and pushes them. I
will also discuss the notion of revenge, as well as discuss how the two plays use the conventions of
the genre to promote different ways of thinking about the ethics of revenge.
Revenge tragedy was a popular genre of drama in the late 16th and 17th centuries in England.
People at this time enjoyed the blood and gore filled story lines typically featured in revenge
tragedies. Revenge tragedies in there very basic plots contain the quest for vengeance, where
carnage, madness, death of a loved one and mutilation are the very basic conventions which we
expect to come across when we are reading a piece of this popular genre. Both the Spanish
Tragedy and Hamlet are well known revenge tragedies following the same story

Charles Dickens Doubling Quotes
The motif of doubling has been repeatedly shown throughout the book. Charles Dickens finds
numerous ways to show the constant pattern of doubling from using children, to using exact
metaphors. Life could either be one way or the other. Factors in life an either duplicate
themselves or oppose themselves. He uses this repeated motif to emphasize the theme of life
being a parallel universe. The prominent quote in Book 1, is the perfect example of how he
does it it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. This well known quote continues on by
saying it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was
the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the
spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we have nothing before
us.... Everything Dickens describes opposes the other. Another way dickens shows doubling is
by comparing their children to their parents. The first pair he compares is Jimmy Cruncher and
his son. Jerry Cruncher, also known as the resurrection man is a grave robber in the book. His
son Young Jerry follows him one night and sees what Jerry does. The next day he asks his father
and informs that he wants to be like his father when he grows up. This shows doubling in more
than one way. Initially, his name is Young Jerry. Secondly, he wants to follow in his father s
footsteps. Another child to parent pair is Young Lucie Manette and her mother Lucie. Lucie
Manette grew up without a father, he was in prison. When he was released she was all grown
up, however she didn t let that affect their father daughter relationship. As Lucie grows up and
marries a man named Charles Darnay, they have a girl named Lucie, in other words, Young
Lucie. Charles Darnay flees to France and ends up in prison, trying to resolve the issue the
Manettes beg for mercy but none is granted. This shows the pattern of doubling because now
Young Lucie will experience growing up without a father, just like her mother did. Dickens also
shows the compare and contrast side of doubling by comparing Lucie Manette and Madame
Defarge. Both characters have completely different life styles. Lucie lives is London and is

Summary Of Lev Vygotsky
Russian psychologist, Lev Vygotsky, dedicated his studies to cognitive development. His theory, the
Social Constructivist, or Social Development Theory, stresses the importance of social influences,
especially through instruction, on children s cognitive development. This theory suggests that
social interaction and community play a large role in making meaning. Vygotsky displays his
theory using his Zone of Proximal Development, or ZPD. The Zone Proximal Development is a
term used to describe the range of tasks that are too difficult for a child to master alone, but can
be learned with guidance or assistance from adults or more skilled children. The lower limit of
the Zone of Proximal Development is the level reached by children when working by
themselves, without assistance from others. Contrary, the upper limit is the level in which tasks
become too difficult for a child to work independently, and additional help from a more skillful
adult or peer is needed. The purpose of the ZPD is to recognize where students lie in terms of
ability of certain cognitive tasks and skills. It allows monitoring of student progress using
scaffolding. Scaffolding is a term that is used to describe the level of support or guidance that is
being offered to a student when learning a task. Scaffolding is a large factor of Vygotsky s theory;
when a child is learning a new task, the level of guidance from a more skilled person is high, often
through direct instruction. The child begins to

The Use Of Nigger
The use of the term nigger can be used as a amicable greeting between two blacks, or as a
hideous pejorative (Marriott 94) towards blacks. Marriott notes that the use of nigger is usually
condoned and used by younger blacks as a term of endearment (98), in hopes to gradually alter
the meaning of the word. Their goal is to normalize the usage of nigger between blacks to dull its
edge whenever whites use it (Marriott 95). This has been proved somewhat efficient, as most
whites dread the word and express feelings of disgust whenever it is heard from the mouth of
whites. Many younger blacks believe their efforts are stimulating a progression in society, but older
blacks and the majority of whites assert just the opposite it illustrates anything

Theseus A Midsummer Night s Dream
Despite the numerous physical contrasts between the forest and Athens in William Shakespeare s A
Midsummer Night s Dream, the two settings symbolically are very similar. Coupling the two
locations allows the play to question the idea of actuality versus dreams. Throughout the play,
Shakespeare juxtaposes Theseus Court with nature to parallel reality and fantasy, and resolve the
obvious differences between the two in order to illustrate that elements of reality are present in
fantasy.
The two settings, at first glance, are strikingly divergent. Athens represents reason and wisdom,
which is representative of reality. It is named after the Greek God Athena, the goddess of wisdom.
By setting Theseus court in Athens, Shakespeare implies the ... Show more content on

Despite these clashing characteristics, there are countless similarities between the events that take
place in each local. One connection between the two can be seen through Hippolyta and Titania.
Although it is evident that Hippolyta is a victim of misogyny, Titania s experience with
patriarchy is less evident. Both Oberon and Theseus earn love from their partners by conquering
them in oe sense or another. Theseus, ...wooed [Hippolyta] with [his] sword, and won [her] love
by doing [her] injuries, whereas Oberon manipulates Titania with a spell (Shakespeare 1.1 17
18). In the end, both men obtain what they desire, whether it be a child or marriage, and the
women must abide their decision. These two characters are often double cast to represent this
relationship. By making this choice, the director and cast heighten a pre existing (if subtle)
parallel between the two characters and their positions and thus representing the appearance of
reality, even in dreams (Colborn 77). The same is true of the opposite because, Hippolyta, by
nature, is representative of the exotic and unknown (Colborn 79). She is not a true Athenian and
therefore has qualities that defy those set for her in reality. This is similar to how even though
the reality of misogyny in the forest is very apparent, she is still able to possess tremendous
power as the Fairy Queen. Hippolyta s Amazonian culture, ...differ from the Renaissance ideals of
womanhood in their complete uninterest in an erotic appeal governed by male desire (Pastor
Sousa 12). This helps define her as an aspect of the unpredictableness of dreams. These two
characters are one way that Shakespeare demonstrates the direct relation between fantasy and
reality, and how aspects of both are apparent in each

Shelley in his poem Ode to the West Wind has used similes in his poem. He states that, the leaves
dead are driven like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing. He also states that, the winged seeds where
they lie cold and low each like a corpse within its grave. As observed from these examples, the
poets will use these techniques to assist in easier interpretation of the poem. The poets also use
metaphors when writing poems. Metaphors refer to the use of certain words to mean otherwise in
the context of the poem. However, metaphors are sometimes hidden in the poem such that they
require the reader to figure out their existence in the poem. This will be easy when the poet
employs the physical environment that is well understood by the reader. In addition, metaphors
will strengthen the ideas that the poet wants to pass across. Metaphors will therefore make it
easier for the readers to interpret and understand the meaning that the poet intended to
communicate. Shelley has used a metaphor in his poem where he states ...Pestilence stricken
multitudes . He states this to indicate to the reader that he is not just addressing a pile of leaves.
Therefore, this helps to understand the deeper meaning of the poem. He also states about the
wintry bed , which is meant to show his mood in the poem. Poets also use the landscape in writing
poems because of the inspiration that they get from such places. This could be based on some
memory or the history of the place and

Fidel Castro, President Of Cuba
Fidel Castro, President of Cuba, was one of the inspiring forces of the Cuban Revolution. Guided
by the philosophies of his Jesuit education and experiences at his father s sugar plantation, Castro
developed a fundamentally strong view on an independent Cuba, identifying himself with the
common folk. On July 26th, Castro led the attack on the Moncada Barracksin order to take over
enemy transmitters. However, a lack of planning and poor miscommunication on Castro s side led
to a severe defeat, leading to Castro s capture. Although Castro let out on a technicality, President
Batista chose to publicize Castro s trial as well as his History Will Absolve Me speech. In his
speech, Castro advocated for reforms in the country s political structure advocating for
establishment of the 1940 Constitution and focusing on the collective society, not an individual
force. Outlining the five laws needed to create a revolution, Castro related to his fellow Cuban
revolutionaries through various literary techniques such as use of rhetoric and references to Cubas
agricultural history.
One of the underlying themes in Castro s speech was his ability to underscore that there was a
fundamental problem in Cuba s economy. In a time when the United States had recently come out
of its own economic recession and was industrializing, foreign threats severely undermined Cuba s
ability to gain economic autonomy. As Castro keenly pointed out, 85% of small farmers in Cuba

Essay about Online Education Versus Traditional Education
With high speed internet available to potential students of all economic levels, schools are opting to
implement online classes into their traditional teaching curriculum. As a result, our society is
divided in two different ways of thinking on the education. Some believe the modern method is
better than the traditional method of teaching. Personally, I believe both methods should balance
one another instead of attempting to substitute one another; this way their purpose of educating

However, advocates of classroom learning believe the online method isolates the students from one

that students learn better when working together with their instructor and their fellow classmates.
Students learn better when they are given the opportunity to ask questions, join in class

Progression from Evil to Good in Oresteia Essay
Progression from Evil to Good in Oresteia
Aeschylus use of darkness and light as a consistent image in the Oresteia depicts a progression
from evil to good, disorder to order. In the Oresteia, there exists a situation among mortals that has
gotten out of control; a cycle of death has arisen in the house of Atreus. There also exists a divine
disorder within the story which, as the situation of the mortals, must be brought to resolution: the
Furies, an older generation of gods, are in conflict with the younger Olympian gods because they
have been refused their ancient right to avenge murders between members of the same family. The
Oresteia presents two parallel conflicts, both of which must be resolved if harmony is ever to be
desired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As long as this type of evil continues to be practiced in the house of Atreus, darkness will continue
to emerge. The Oresteia has not yet seen the light.
The beginning of the progression from darkness to light can initially be seen in the second play of
the trilogy, The Libation Bearers. Orestes is the embodiment of this light, a beacon signalling a
possible end in the evil that has infected the house of Atreus. It is true that Orestes, in revenge for
Agamemnon, kills his mother Clytaemestra. Yet the darkness that is expected from such a
murder, a matricide, is negated by one of the main reasons that Orestes commits the murder: his
fear of the wrath of Apollo, who has ordered him to commit the deadly act. Aeschylus provides
Orestes with a justification for his action in the form of the oracle from Apollo. For not only
does Orestes murder of his mother fail to differ greatly from Clytaemestra s murder of
Agamemnon, but it can in fact be seen as a worse crime because of the blood ties. Therefore, in
order to convincingly prove his assertion that Orestes is justified in killing his mother, Aeschylus
must include the order from Apollo, who by no mere coincidence is the god of light. With the
divine support of the light god on his side, Orestes is the beginning of the progressive illumination
towards goodness and order in the Oresteia.
Another example of Orestes introduction of light into a story of darkness

Why Is The Manhattan Project Important

The Manhattan Project
In the early 20th century, there were numerous groundbreaking advances in science. One of the
most important ones was the splitting of the atom or nuclear fission. Physicists realized that fission
could release tremendous amounts of energy in a form of a bomb. With WWII in the horizon, the
U.S. government decided to launch the Manhattan Project, the race to develop the world s first
atomic bomb. The project took about 7 years, approximately $2 billion, and around 130,000
personnel to complete, (Hall, By the Numbers: World War II s atomic bombs ). The eventually
success of the project would change countries around the globe forever. The results of the
Manhattan Project opened up a new field of possibilities, leaving behind numerous consequences.

Descriptive Essay On Taco
Tuesday is Taco Tuesday s at our house. Learn how to make this delicious shredded pork tacos for
dinner with SmithfieldВ® Marinated Pork.
School is officially back in session and has been for our kids here in Colorado for the past two
weeks. With driving the kids to and from school, helping with homework and doing all the other
chores in between, there really isn t much time left for myself. I also have to think about dinner and
what I can do that s quick, doesn t take up too much of my time, and in turn leaves me with some
time to really enjoy with the kids before it s time for bed. Tacos has always been a favorite of mine
and as I mentioned, Tuesday s is generally taco night for us. With my list in hand I decided to head
to my local commissary to get my ingredients.
As a retired military veteran, I love beating the rush and taking advantage of the early bird
shopping. It s generally when most of the soldiers are at home after an early morning of PT and
their wives or husbands are taking their kids to school, or are at work. I just love having the
store to myself and taking my time through the aisles whilst looking for what I need without
having to say excuse me . My husband has been saying that we needed to change up our recipes
and do something different every once in a while. So instead of the regular beef or chicken tacos,
I decided that we were going to pork instead. However, I had no idea what to expect in the pork
department, and was I surprised. There

Compare Indonesia And Australian Economy
Transcript: Comparison of the Australian and Indonesian economy
The role of an economy is to effectively make use of a countries resources, thus increasing economic
performance. If economic performance of a country was at a maximum, then the country would
have substantial wealth and therefore purchasing power, which would be available to spend on
allocated departments including: health, infrastructure and military, to name a few. A countries
wealth gives an indication of its living standards, with an increase in wealth it is probable that the
living standards will also increase simultaneously. Although the entirety of the concept of improving
living standards is not solely determined solely by a countries wealth. There are also a number of ...

Passion And Religion In Equus By Peter Shaffer
When you look up the word passion there happens to be two completely different definitions. One
definition, the most common one, says that passion is a strong and barely controllable emotion.
However when you look right below it there is another definition that reads, passion is the suffering
and death of Jesus. In the play Equus by Peter Shaffer, you see how intertwined the ideas of
passion, worship and religion are. A schizophrenic 17 year old boy named Alan lives his life in
the grey area between these two definitions and ultimately combines them to make one. Dysart, a
psychologist, tries to help Alan distinguish the differences between these two separate ideas. But,
by helping him to become what many people would call normal, he could destroy the passion that
he so envies in Alan. Dysart sees the beauty in the disease that allows Alan to feel something
special even if it is for the wrong reasons, and he ultimately feels that he is the one to blame for
squashing the passion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Growing up with a mother who praised horses and loved God, Alan was very confused. His
father, who was a forbiting man. The His father, at one point, changed a poster that was hanging
above Alan s bed from a picture of Jesus to a picture of a horse head on. This idea of the horses
and god being one really confused Alan. From this point on, the horse, or Equus, rules **Alan.
Alan is taught by his mother that sexuality and religion come as one. This makes Alan believe
religion and sexuality come together as one, and because his father changed the picture, he
almost changes from worshipping god into an awe of horses. Dalton s stables are his shrines and
the horses are his Gods.** In this play the ideas of worship and passion co exist due to the idea
that Alan has a passion for worshipping horses. He goes as often as he can to worship them through
rituals. His passion to worship ultimately** over came

Full Frontal Feminism
According to the lecture notes for this week, socially constructed identities are certainly grounded
in the way we are raised. There is a social system that hinders women from getting equal power as
men. Historically, men and women had very differentiated gender roles and they were strictly
raised to follow these social norms. If women crossed the border of their genderexpectation, they
were not accepted in their society. A table in the lecture notes, which shows the gender
characteristics, represents men as rational, strong, powerful and active, and women as irrational,
weak, fearful, and passive. These stereotyped characteristics put women in the inferior position and
disqualify them from engaging in the same activities as men . As mentioned in Full Frontal
Feminism, it is difficult to identify the first feminist in the history, however, women have come a
long way in fighting against social injustice to achieve their rights through the feminist s waves.
This week s texts introduce three remarkable women who took the lead in feminism and resisted the
social systems of subordination of women.
In A room of one s own: Shakespeare s sister , Virginia Woolf pointed out the inequality in regards
to gender appropriate professions and how it could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Our World Is Increasingly Being Taken Over By Workaholics.
Our world is increasingly being taken over by workaholics. The United Sates has been the leader
in very demanding work schedules for decades now. Furthermore, at least eighteen percent of
people work sixty or more hours a week in the United States (Cohen). One of the stimulus that
sparked my topic was The Myth of Sisyphus, by Albert Camus. It connects to my research
because it talks about how Sisyphus was condemned to ever lasting torment and despair knowing
he was doing a lot of futile labor. This labor caused him to have thoughts of suicide because he
saw his destiny and did not see the point of life. Another stimulus I used was Long working hours
and cancer risk: a multi cohort study. It shows how working long hours is linked to... Show more

Those who worked more than eighty hours a week increased their risk of coronary heart disease
by ninety four percent. The increased risk found in the study may be due to distorted sleeping and
eating habits. When workers spend too much time in the office, they often choose fast food
establishments over cooking their own healthy, nutritious meals for dinner (Cohen). Furthermore,
people who work long hours usually do not exercise often. The Australian Diabetes, Obesity, and
Lifestyle Study found that people who have a high sedentary lifestyle have a 112 percent increase
risk of Type 2 diabetes (Bixby). Another study showed that people who sit for more than twenty
five hours a week have an increased risk in developing metabolic risk factors, such as bad
cholesterol and insulin resistance (Washington Post). On average, a person sittingfor too long is
likely to burn fifty less calories. Burning less calories, in addition to the six pounds gained from
consuming a multitude of office snacks, can have a detrimental effect on an individual s health
(Bixby). Working long hours can have an effect on child bearing women. It causes increased stress
from the conflicts of working long hours on family life. As a result, there is an increased risk of
spontaneous abortion, low birth weight, and prematurity (Harrington). Women who experienced
threatened abortion or preterm birth had longer weekly working hours during

Marianne Willoughby Research Paper
When Marianne Dashwood receives a letter from John Willoughby stating that he has never had any
feelings for her, this triggers an emotional chain reaction: in her devastated state of mind she first
blames Willoughby, then denies his unscrupulousness while suspecting an unknown woman, his
fiancГ©e, of being her enemy (cf. S S 179), but at last quickly returns to the thought that
Willoughby himself may have actually written it: It is too much! Oh! Willoughby, Willoughby,
could this be your s! Cruel, cruel nothing can acquit you. [...] Willoughby, where was your heart,
when you wrote those words? Oh! barbarously insolent! (S S 180)
Towards the end of the novel, as Willoughby comes to talk to Elinor and to inquire after Marianne
to eliminate his guilt, he mentions the aforesaid letter: And in short what do you think of my wife s

At this point one can record the fact that all of them jeopardise the respective heroine s happy
ending; however, these women are not all equal as they differ in efficiency and menace.
Researchers in the field of Jane Austen have rather neglected this topic; although there are a few
character analyses or references, nobody has explicitly investigated the entity of Austen s female
antagonists yet. It is noticeable though that certain types of female antagonists repeatedly occur in
Jane Austen s novels. According to their respective features, every single one of these characters
can be thus put into one of three different categories, which, in the following, will be referred to as
The Old Schemers , The Self Centred Girls , and The Rivals . Although one could obviously create

The Station Nightclub Fire Explosion
The Station nightclub fire occurred on February 20, 2003, in West Warwick, RI. The fourth
deadliest nightclub fire in U.S. history, a blaze at The Station nightclub in W. Warwick, RI, on
February 20, 2003. The fire was caused by pyrotechnics set off by the tour manager of the
evening s headlining band Great White, which ignited flammable sound insulation polyurethane
foam in the walls and ceilings surrounding the stage. By this time, the nightclub s fire alarm had
been activated, and although there were four possible exits, most people headed for the front
door through which they had entered. The rapidly moving fire with intense black smoke engulfed
the club in less than 6 minutes. Video footage of the fire shows its ignition, rapid growth, the
heavy smoke quickly made escape impossible, and the exit blockage that further hindered
evacuation. The ensuing stampede led to a crush in the narrow hallway leading to that exit,
quickly blocking the exit completely and resulting in numerous deaths and injuries among the
patrons and staff. The toxic smoke, heat and the stampede of people toward the exits killed 100;
230 were injured and another 132 escaped uninjured. A total of 462 people were in the club, even
though the club s official licensed capacity was 404 In the days after the fire, there were
considerable efforts to assign and avoid blame on the part of the band, the nightclub owners, the
manufacturers and distributors of the foam material and pyrotechnics, and

Killer Whales Research Paper
Ocean giants that have captured the imagination of humans for centuries, whales are among the
largest mammals on earth. This diverse group of animals has over 75 separate species, and are
considered by scientists to be some of the most intelligent animals on the planet. While modern
whales spend their entire lives in water, they are air breathing mammals whose ancestors roamed
land millions of years ago. With so many interesting facts about whales, once question can be easily
overlooked: Do whales have (teeth)?
Whales belong to infraorder Cetacea, which includes two other ocean dwelling mammals:
porpoises and dolphins. While all whales are carnivores, that doesn t mean all whales have (teeth).
Scientists divide whales into two different parvorders based on this phenomenon: Odontoceti and
Mysticeti. Whales that belong to parvorder Odontoceti are also called toothed whales. Toothed
whales actively hunt their food and are known to eat a wide variety of animals including sea otters,
seals, sharks, squid, and even other whales.
Killer whales are the largest member of the dolphin family.
All toothed whales, including orcas and dolphins, are born with a mouth full of teeth!
The largest species of toothed whale is the sperm whale.

When a baleen whale finds food, it opens its large mouth and sucks in whatever it plans on eating
with large amounts of sea water in one of three ways. Gulp feeders wait until they have a full
mouth, then press their tongues against the baleen. The pressure pushes the sea water out, and its
food gets caught in the baleen like a giant strainer. Once all the water is removed, the whale
swallows its food whole. Skim feeders use a different approach, skimming along the surface of the
water with their mouths open to catch zooplankton. Bottom feeders plow along the seabed and use
their baleen to filter small invertebrates from the

female residents. Membership Women residents of the Stearns County Jail can be members of
our group. This population was chosen because we both thought it would be a new learning
experience to work within the jail system; in addition, our supervisor at the jail suggested that he
needed an all female group. Furthermore, we liked the idea of stepping outside of our comfort
zones. We also though this group would be a little more challenging, yet we have high hopes
that this will be a great learning experience for the both of us. Recruitment We have created a
poster that our supervisor will hang up in the jail. The poster will include our group name, the
day and times we will meet as a group, and some topics we can discuss. We also made note that
we will be supplying adult coloring books. There will be a signup sheet provided by the jail staff
and women will sign up for our group prior to us meeting. The poster will hopefully interest the
women residents and get them to attend. Composition Members must be female. Members also
must be residents at the Stearns County Jail.

  • 2. The Difference between American and German Thinking The way Germans and Americans think is totally opposite. Germans think deductively, and take a scientific approach. On the other hand Americans tend to think inductively, they first form a goal and figure out the details later. These styles but head because Germans often think of the American approach as unrealistic. The negative side to the German thinking is that while are German is planning an American may beat him to putting an item on the market. The Americans might not be 100 percent error free but they got the product out first. Communication styles are also very different in the two countries. Americans do not like to disagree with one another. They hardly ever tend to respond with firm answers and try to beat around the bush and try to politely tell someone no. Germanslike to debate with each other when they are facing a problem. If a German disagrees with you they will be sure that it is made know. A difference between Germany and America is freedom vs. security. Americans believe in having freedom even at the cost of sacrificing security. Germans on the other hand like to have security. They like to be able to plan ahead for long periods of time. They find the fact that in the US a person can be fired from their job for almost no reason at all very distressing. There is also a great difference in freedom of speech in the two countries. For example in the US racist Nazi propaganda would be legal where in Germany it is completely illegal. The American view is I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Metallica Research Paper Metallica is considered one of the first metal bands of the early eighties. They are a part of the big four, the other three include Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. The metal genre is proven to have the biggest fan base over any other genre. In this article I will only be talking about their early years and going up to their first four albums. Most diehard Metallicafans will argue that their first four albums are true Metallica and after that they went mainstream to try and branch out to other audiences. Metallica was formed in Los Angeles, in late 1981 when Danish born drummer Lars Ulrich placed an advertisement in a Los Angeles newspaper The Recycler, which read, Drummer looking for other metal musicians to jam with. Guitarists James Hetfield ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1983, Metallica recorded their first album Kill em All. Metallica recorded its second studio album,Ride the Lightning, at Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was released in August 1984 and reached number 100 on the Billboard 200. Although Mustaine was kicked out he still received credit for writing Ride the Lightning and The Call of Ktulu . Metallica s third album Master of Puppets was recorded in March of 1986 at the same studio. On September 27, 1986, during the European leg of Metallica s Damage, Inc. Tour, members drew cards to determine which bunks on the tour bus they would sleep in. Burton won and chose to sleep in Hammett s bunk. At around sunrise near Dorarp, Sweden, the bus driver lost control and skidded, which caused the bus to overturn several times. Ulrich, Hammett, and Hetfield sustained no serious injuries; however, bassist Burton was pinned under the bus and died. Burtons death was unexpected and led the band to not know what to do. The same year they recruited bassist Jason Newsted. Metallica s first studio album since Burton s death, And Justice for All, was released in 1988. In 1989, Metallica received its first Grammy Award nomination for And Justice for All in the new Best Hard Rock/Metal Vocal or Instrument ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Small Group Reflection In the summer of 2013, I participated in the Calvin College Entrada Scholar program, a four week intensive program for racial ethnic minority high school students to experience college learning and living while earning college credit. Creating an international community was a huge theme in this program, students were not allowed to have their computers, games, nor be on their phones. Another way that the program encouraged community was with small group devotion with students floormates and designated floor RA. I remember one week, the theme within the small groups was sharing our narratives. My small group consisted of a total of nine female students and our RA. Our discussion lasted about 2 hours that night mainly because our RA established a safe and open environment, she was someone we loved and trusted within a short time of knowing her. The small group narrative used a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our small group was the definition of people that are often marginalized, minority women. I am not saying that we were not empowered, being in that group alone after hearing everyone struggles was empowering. However, after our discussion there was no direction to where to go from there, after opening up. I personally could not look at others the same way after hearing their stories. A solution would had been a follow up small group discussion before departing from the program, but with only small group meetings once a week it is difficult to implement this idea. In addition, I understand that our RA did not have training in social work, mentoring, or psychology, she was a Speech Path major. In the small group the most we could do was sympathize with each other, but not truly lift them up and congratulated them in overcoming their hardships and help them decide their next step after this ... • 5. Wrong With Georgia In recent discussions of Georgia s economy, the controversial issue has been whether or not it s top ranking business climate has been beneficial to the state. On the one hand, Mark Arend s Georgia Holds on to First Place, argues Georgia is great for business, with Georgia being ranked #1 by Site Selection magazine for best statefor business, because of its workforce training program (Quick Start), logistics infrastructure, and the governor s High Demand Career Initiative. On the other hand, Elena Semuels What s Wrong With Georgia contends while Georgia is great for cooperate businesses it leads the nation in unemployment, has terrible transportation, and the governor s High Demand Career Initiative is a failure. Arend argues the reason Georgia has been ranked #1 two consecutive years by Site Selection magazine is because of its work force training program (Quick Start), logistics infrastructure, and public education system. Semuels refutes this claims by pointing out Georgia has had the highest unemployment rate 3 consecutive months, terrible transportation, and decline in educational funding. Semuels provides details to these claims with Georgia having an unemployment rate of 7.2, while the national average is 5.8; even the Quick Start program does not help Home Depot had to go out of state to find workers to fill their positons because lack of highly skilled workers in Georgia. The state ranks 49th in per capita in transportation funding, and has cut the public education budget by 8.3 billion. Overall, Semuels does a great job of using statistics and citizen interviews to show Georgia really has a problem. Georgia is a great state for business mainly for the tax breaks cooperate companies get from the state, but for the workers looking for jobs it is really detrimental. Georgia thought lowering taxes would stimulate the economy, but it backfired. As Semuels points out, It might be a long time before things get back to normal in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Keurig Green Mountain And Its Operations After reviewing the financial and performance information related to Keurig Green Mountain and its operations, I would recommend holding the Keurig Green Mountain stock. Keurig has a high degree of leverage and has the ability to take on more debt to finance its expansion of operations. As Keurig Green Mountain navigates managing strong sales in current markets and expanding into untapped markets, it will also have to manage criticism about sustainability and face legal consequences stemming from product recalls. Balancing the strong growth potential with challenging strategic issues will help determine Keurig s unpredictable stockprice. (The purchase price represents a 3.0% discount off the closing price of Keurig common stock on February 20, 2015). This repurchase will be financed through Keurig s cash reserves and existing credit. Stock repurchase programs are often used by companies as an efficient use of excess cash. Stock buyback programs are often regarded as signal that shares are undervalued and are expected to rise in the future. In March of 2015, Keurig acquired DS Services. Through the acquisition of DS Services, Keurig will now be able to offer a new brand of beverages Javarama. Keurig s deal with DS Services will allow Keurig to manufacture Javarama and other gourmet roasts through the exclusive K Cup platform. • 8. Moving With Your Pet Cat Essay Moving with your pet cat is harder than moving with other pets. This is because cats have hard times adjusting. Cats have minds of their own and they are likely to stick closely to their usual routines. You might always think that moving is very tiring and stressful but your cat is more stressed. He doesn t know what s going on, of course. Even he is just a pet. You must consider his needs in order to have a stress free moving. It will bring ease to your catand to you. To help your cat understand what s going on, pack early. He will notice the things in your house kept little by little and it will surely give him an idea that you ll be going to a new place soon. In a matter of time, your cat will be adjusting to the boxes around your house that he ll start sniffing and maybe even sleeping on them. Just like a human being, shocking your cat by packing only a few days before moving will depress him and make him anxious. Never make any sudden, unnecessary changes especially in your cat s daily routine. Feed him the usual time you feed him. Let him find his place in the house where he ll be comfortable enough to sleep and play in that area. Keep his toys near so that he won t wander. Make sure that he still gets the same treatment that he gets before. These things will make him feel that no matter where you take him, he still feels at home and secure. Don t forget to buy your cat a new Id tag with your latest home address and you can also add your contact number. You ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Willy Loman Is To Blame In this essay I will be writing about how much Willy Loman is to blame and is not to blame for his own actions. Willy Loman is a sixty three year old man who is depicted to be on the verge of a breakdown. Loman is a very delusional character who appears to live predominantly in the past, which is made clear from his tone and Miller s stage directions which demonstrate the use of expressionism. At the heart of everything Willy does, lay his children: Biff and Happy. All the same, every dream Willy ever has had has been rooted by the idea of the American Dream the idea of having the perfect and idealistic life where anyone can become successful as long as they are well liked. This idea is carried throughout the play and becomes personified... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The son a pioneer inventor and the slave of the industrialised world, Willy Loman exemplifies the victim of a changing capitalistic society. Arthur Miller eludes to this even in the character s name Loman, which pronounced correctly reveals the words Low man. Death of a Salesman engages the audiences conflicting attitudes toward this changing society: fear of the new and unfamiliar and to accommodate technology to cultural mythologies by subordinating it personally. This is evident in Howard s office, who is Willy s boss. In this scene Willy is going to ask to work in New York but instead of getting his office job, he is fired. Willy has now lost everything: his years of service, his pride and his salary because he is no longer as productive as he once was. This scene not only marks a tragic point in Willy s life it also gives proof of the changes that occur in a capitalist system. Willy s termination goes along with the out with the old and in with the new theory of such a system. Again, this leaves us thinking that as a tragic protagonist, Willy Loman is not culpable for his own actions; In fact, society is. If capitalist views had not become the culture for 1940 America then perhaps Willy would not be suffering like he is. He became a salesman because he was told and believed that if he was a salesman, who was well liked and therefore successful, then he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Backbone Of A Recreational Sport And Organization CHAPTER TWO: REVIEW OF LITERATURE Chapter Overview Introduction The backbone of a recreational sport and organization are the volunteers committed to the success and continuation of the organization. The most important group of individuals within a youth sports organization is volunteer coaches (Bouchet and Lehe, pg. 21, 2010). The diversity of a community organization requires many unique needs to be addressed and serviced. The greater the diversity of a group, the more likely different individuals with varied backgrounds are required. The influence of volunteers allows youth teams and leagues to fill their needs (Bouchet and Lehe, 2010). Volunteer recreational sports organizations are then charged with identifying and convincing a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless the reason for their involvement, the general disposition of these coaches presents an opportunity for education and increasing efficacy. Volunteer coaches were sought to have an intentional disposition to learning for reasons such as inquisitiveness, self efficacy, and open mindedness (Griffiths and Armour, 2013). Additionally, the disposition of reciprocity for volunteer coaches to gain knowledge included reasons of cooperation and mutual exchange of information (Griffiths and Armour, 2013). The review of literature intends to display the research surrounding volunteer recreational youth sport coaches, the motivators for participation, and the educational opportunities for this population. Terms and Definitions A key to defining this group and their responsibilities is to explain their status. The term volunteer is defined as, persons who did unpaid work (except for expenses) through or for an organization (USDL, 2015). The nature of a professional, or someone who is paid for their work, demonstrates an implicit motivator in the payment. The duties and responsibilities that are performed by the person whether the duties are assigned or created by the person also have a general connotation. The collection of activities these individuals perform is known in the literature as volunteering (Stebbins, 2009, Wilson, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. What Is Phineas Gage Case The Curious Case of Phineas Gage On the date of September 13th, 1848, one of the greatest medical miracles in history occurred. Not only was this case amazing, it was sounded too unbelievable to most and became liken into an old folk tale. However, this was no folk tale. The story of the living mad with a rod in his head was true and it stunned the entire medical community. This is the story of Phineas Gage. Working on a railroad is a dangerous job even in modern times. Thousands of people are hurt either working on railroads or being around railroads each year (Schottenstein, 2015). Therefore, as you can imagine, injuries and deaths were happening at an even higher rate in the 1800s. Phineas Gage was a railroad worker doing a job in Vermont... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gage did, according to Harlow, retain full possession of his reason after the accident, but his wife and other people close to him soon began to notice dramatic changes in his personality (Constandi, 2006). Brain injury can often cause this type of personality change. It has been documented in many different cases. However, post injury personality changes also meant that we dealt with bouts of intense anger, confusion, and unpredictable behavior (Cromer, 2012). These types of personality can differ, however they are usually negative. This was seen in the case of Phineas Gage. Sadly his personality and temperament wasn t the only thing that changed. Before the accident he was considered as one of the best workers on the job site (Constandi, 2006). However, after the injury, he could hardly work. (Constandi, 2006). His contractors, who regarded him as the most efficient and capable foreman in their employ previous to his injury, considered the change in his mind so marked that they could not give him his place again. He is fitful, irreverent, indulging at times in the grossest profanity (which was not previously his custom), manifesting but little deference for his fellows, impatient of restraint of advice when it conflicts with his desires, at times pertinaciously obstinent, yet capricious and vacillating, devising many plans of future operation, which are no sooner arranged than they are abandoned in turn for others appearing more feasible. In this regard, his mind was radically changed, so decidedly that his friends and acquaintances said he was no longer Gage. (Constandi, 2006). He sadly resorted to using his injury as an attraction to make money. He began traveling to do appearances so that people could see the injury and pay him for the entertainment (Constandi, 2006). Whether you identify as a Republican, a Democrat, or somewhere in between, there is no denying that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are two highly controversial candidates. While it is difficult to tell where most Americans stand on the election issue, it is easy to see that ancient Chinese Legalist thinkers would be staunch supporters of Donald Trump. Legalist ideas seem to be the foundation upon which Trump s Republican Party was built. Even Trump s slogan, Make America Great Again, is echoed in the Legalist notion of becoming a strong country with impenetrable borders. Though I, along with many Americans, disagree with Trump on many points, his taxand welfare policies seem to be based on logic, especially in the context of Chinese history. However, America is not ready for a president who has illustrated such a flagrant disregard for the law. Just as the Legalist regime in China was short lived, so should be Trump s time in the limelight. Han Feizi and Shang Yang, Legalist thinkers in ancient China, would vote for Donald Trump in the upcoming election. While Feizi, Yang, and Trump agree on many fundamental points, taxation and welfare policy are the most significant. Just one manifestation of this would be middle managers withholding information they are given to disseminate because they wish to retain their knowledgeable image; defeating the point of a middle manager. Michael E Raynor (2007) in his book entitled The Strategy Paradox presents the idea that a successful strategy requires the full commitment of the organisation, which leads to unsuccessful performance overall; due to over commitment. Flood and Dresher s (1950) Prisoners Dilemma, applied to the world of business, will also conclude that non competition is the most effective path in the long run. Both imply that strong competition efforts eventually lead to failure that mediocrity is the best route to follow as companies have a silent agreement to operate in a state of equilibrium. However, in the case of HMV Group, its operating industry is in decline; therefore failure is the only eventuality of a failure to compete. ContextAs identified above, much of the literature on the subject of managing strategic change has an element of paradox attached to it. The logical reason for this is that different methods depend on the circumstances the organisation is faced with. As there are no exact laws of change management, this is what makes the subject complex; but more interesting. Most of the literature aims to provide a theory for each and every eventuality; ... One sunny day, the giraffe and zebra were hiding from the leopard and Ethiopian within the shadows of the trees. Mysteriously, jagged shadow shapes appeared on the fur of the giraffe and the zebra. In book shops and library s, books are organized and categorised by genre, making it extremely easy for the reader to find exactly what they are looking for. Generally, genre is very restricted often making writers feel as though they must follow a specific set of rules and conventions if they want their piece of writing to fall into a particular genre with a certain theme. • 27. Charles Dickens Doubling Quotes The motif of doubling has been repeatedly shown throughout the book. Charles Dickens finds numerous ways to show the constant pattern of doubling from using children, to using exact metaphors. Life could either be one way or the other. Factors in life an either duplicate themselves or oppose themselves. He uses this repeated motif to emphasize the theme of life being a parallel universe. The prominent quote in Book 1, is the perfect example of how he does it it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. This well known quote continues on by saying it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we have nothing before us.... Everything Dickens describes opposes the other. Another way dickens shows doubling is by comparing their children to their parents. The first pair he compares is Jimmy Cruncher and his son. Jerry Cruncher, also known as the resurrection man is a grave robber in the book. His son Young Jerry follows him one night and sees what Jerry does. The next day he asks his father and informs that he wants to be like his father when he grows up. This shows doubling in more than one way. Initially, his name is Young Jerry. Secondly, he wants to follow in his father s footsteps. Another child to parent pair is Young Lucie Manette and her mother Lucie. Lucie Manette grew up without a father, he was in prison. When he was released she was all grown up, however she didn t let that affect their father daughter relationship. As Lucie grows up and marries a man named Charles Darnay, they have a girl named Lucie, in other words, Young Lucie. Charles Darnay flees to France and ends up in prison, trying to resolve the issue the Manettes beg for mercy but none is granted. This shows the pattern of doubling because now Young Lucie will experience growing up without a father, just like her mother did. Dickens also shows the compare and contrast side of doubling by comparing Lucie Manette and Madame Defarge. Both characters have completely different life styles. Lucie lives is London and is ... His theory, the Social Constructivist, or Social Development Theory, stresses the importance of social influences, especially through instruction, on children s cognitive development. This theory suggests that social interaction and community play a large role in making meaning. Vygotsky displays his theory using his Zone of Proximal Development, or ZPD. The Zone Proximal Development is a term used to describe the range of tasks that are too difficult for a child to master alone, but can be learned with guidance or assistance from adults or more skilled children. The lower limit of the Zone of Proximal Development is the level reached by children when working by themselves, without assistance from others. Contrary, the upper limit is the level in which tasks become too difficult for a child to work independently, and additional help from a more skillful adult or peer is needed. The purpose of the ZPD is to recognize where students lie in terms of ability of certain cognitive tasks and skills. It allows monitoring of student progress using scaffolding. Scaffolding is a term that is used to describe the level of support or guidance that is being offered to a student when learning a task. Scaffolding is a large factor of Vygotsky s theory; when a child is learning a new task, the level of guidance from a more skilled person is high, often through direct instruction. Theseus A Midsummer Night s Dream Despite the numerous physical contrasts between the forest and Athens in William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, the two settings symbolically are very similar. Coupling the two locations allows the play to question the idea of actuality versus dreams. Throughout the play, Shakespeare juxtaposes Theseus Court with nature to parallel reality and fantasy, and resolve the obvious differences between the two in order to illustrate that elements of reality are present in fantasy. The two settings, at first glance, are strikingly divergent. Athens represents reason and wisdom, which is representative of reality. It is named after the Greek God Athena, the goddess of wisdom. Despite these clashing characteristics, there are countless similarities between the events that take place in each local. One connection between the two can be seen through Hippolyta and Titania. Although it is evident that Hippolyta is a victim of misogyny, Titania s experience with patriarchy is less evident. Both Oberon and Theseus earn love from their partners by conquering them in oe sense or another. Theseus, ...wooed [Hippolyta] with [his] sword, and won [her] love by doing [her] injuries, whereas Oberon manipulates Titania with a spell (Shakespeare 1.1 17 18). In the end, both men obtain what they desire, whether it be a child or marriage, and the women must abide their decision. These two characters are often double cast to represent this relationship. By making this choice, the director and cast heighten a pre existing (if subtle) parallel between the two characters and their positions and thus representing the appearance of reality, even in dreams (Colborn 77). The same is true of the opposite because, Hippolyta, by nature, is representative of the exotic and unknown (Colborn 79). She is not a true Athenian and therefore has qualities that defy those set for her in reality. This is similar to how even though the reality of misogyny in the forest is very apparent, she is still able to possess tremendous power as the Fairy Queen. Alex has no ability to show genuine emotion for what he has done, nor pity for his victims. In fact, while in prison, Alex pursues the Bible not for sanctuary of faith, but as an insight into more violence and sex, gaining a type of ally in the Prison Chaplain, who misunderstands his intentions with the Bible. As the proposition of a shorter sentence is given, the Chaplain questions the morality of the techniques going to be used. Does God want goodness or the choice of goodness? Is a man who chooses to be bad perhaps in some way better than a man who has the good imposed upon him? (Burgess 166). The Chaplain is imploring him to just take his sentence instead of sacrificing his free will to get out of prison sooner. He is foreshadowing that this could be a hellish result. Alex elects to have his free will stolen from him through the Ludovico Technique, an aversion theory that causes him to associate any kind of violent thought with sickness. Poems are used as a means of passing ideas, information and expression of feelings. This has made the poets to use the natural things and images that people can relate with so that they can make these poems understandable. The most common forms of writing that are used by the poets are the figurative language for example imagery and metaphors. In addition, the poets use the natural landscape in their attempt to explore the philosophical questions. He states that, the leaves dead are driven like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing. He also states that, the winged seeds where they lie cold and low each like a corpse within its grave. As observed from these examples, the poets will use these techniques to assist in easier interpretation of the poem. The poets also use metaphors when writing poems. Metaphors refer to the use of certain words to mean otherwise in the context of the poem. However, metaphors are sometimes hidden in the poem such that they require the reader to figure out their existence in the poem. This will be easy when the poet employs the physical environment that is well understood by the reader. In addition, metaphors will strengthen the ideas that the poet wants to pass across. Metaphors will therefore make it easier for the readers to interpret and understand the meaning that the poet intended to communicate. Shelley has used a metaphor in his poem where he states ...Pestilence stricken multitudes . He states this to indicate to the reader that he is not just addressing a pile of leaves. Therefore, this helps to understand the deeper meaning of the poem. He also states about the wintry bed , which is meant to show his mood in the poem. Guided by the philosophies of his Jesuit education and experiences at his father s sugar plantation, Castro developed a fundamentally strong view on an independent Cuba, identifying himself with the common folk. On July 26th, Castro led the attack on the Moncada Barracksin order to take over enemy transmitters. However, a lack of planning and poor miscommunication on Castro s side led to a severe defeat, leading to Castro s capture. Although Castro let out on a technicality, President Batista chose to publicize Castro s trial as well as his History Will Absolve Me speech. In his speech, Castro advocated for reforms in the country s political structure advocating for establishment of the 1940 Constitution and focusing on the collective society, not an individual force. Outlining the five laws needed to create a revolution, Castro related to his fellow Cuban revolutionaries through various literary techniques such as use of rhetoric and references to Cubas agricultural history. One of the underlying themes in Castro s speech was his ability to underscore that there was a fundamental problem in Cuba s economy. As a result, our society is divided in two different ways of thinking on the education. Some believe the modern method is better than the traditional method of teaching. However, advocates of classroom learning believe the online method isolates the students from one another as well as their professor minimizing the overall value of taking the course. They also claim that students learn better when working together with their instructor and their fellow classmates. Students learn better when they are given the opportunity to ask questions, join in class discussions, and they move the process of learning forward through their participation. • 39. Progression from Evil to Good in Oresteia Essay Progression from Evil to Good in Oresteia Aeschylus use of darkness and light as a consistent image in the Oresteia depicts a progression from evil to good, disorder to order. In the Oresteia, there exists a situation among mortals that has gotten out of control; a cycle of death has arisen in the house of Atreus. There also exists a divine disorder within the story which, as the situation of the mortals, must be brought to resolution: the Furies, an older generation of gods, are in conflict with the younger Olympian gods because they have been refused their ancient right to avenge murders between members of the same family. The Oresteia presents two parallel conflicts, both of which must be resolved if harmony is ever to be desired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As long as this type of evil continues to be practiced in the house of Atreus, darkness will continue to emerge. The Oresteia has not yet seen the light. The beginning of the progression from darkness to light can initially be seen in the second play of the trilogy, The Libation Bearers. Orestes is the embodiment of this light, a beacon signalling a possible end in the evil that has infected the house of Atreus. It is true that Orestes, in revenge for Agamemnon, kills his mother Clytaemestra. Yet the darkness that is expected from such a murder, a matricide, is negated by one of the main reasons that Orestes commits the murder: his fear of the wrath of Apollo, who has ordered him to commit the deadly act. Aeschylus provides Orestes with a justification for his action in the form of the oracle from Apollo. For not only does Orestes murder of his mother fail to differ greatly from Clytaemestra s murder of Agamemnon, but it can in fact be seen as a worse crime because of the blood ties. Therefore, in order to convincingly prove his assertion that Orestes is justified in killing his mother, Aeschylus must include the order from Apollo, who by no mere coincidence is the god of light. With the divine support of the light god on his side, Orestes is the beginning of the progressive illumination towards goodness and order in the Oresteia. There is a social system that hinders women from getting equal power as men. Historically, men and women had very differentiated gender roles and they were strictly raised to follow these social norms. If women crossed the border of their genderexpectation, they were not accepted in their society. A table in the lecture notes, which shows the gender characteristics, represents men as rational, strong, powerful and active, and women as irrational, weak, fearful, and passive.
