Guided Response:
Since we will be spending the next five weeks together, it is important for us to build a classroom culture and get to know each other. Read your classmates’ posts and respond to at least three of your peers. Ask questions to get to know your classmates more or comment on connections between you and your classmates. You will find that you share many commonalities. So, there are three classmates so it should be three respond for each classmate. NOT ONE REPONDS
Hello everyone my name is
Mitzi McDowell
, I am the baby of a family of three, I have 2 older brothers. I am the mother of 2 wonderful children (don’t we all say that about our children), and the owner of 2 amazing dogs and band new puppies (9). We live in a small town called Saint Paul’s in North Carolina. It is definitely a country town with country stores, corn fields, cow pastures, and deer running across your yard type of town. It is enjoyable because my dogs can run freely; we can ride four wheelers, and have huge family gatherings without bothering our neighbors.
My education began right out of college; I attended a four year university Winston Salem State University. In the midst of college my mother became very ill and she was keeping my son during the time. I did drop out of school after a total of 3years to take care of her and my son. No regrets, I feel now I have more discipline, a little scared, but determined to finish what I started.
I am currently employed at Mann Hummel Purolator Filters in Fayetteville, NC. This is a filter company and we supply filters to some of the largest automobile companies worldwide. I worked in the Data Key Entry for about 1 ½ years, then moved to Traffic Department for 2 years, then worked as office support for 2 ½ years and then Customer Service department for 5years, and now I am working in the Packaging Department. It is great to see a different side of the business, I began working with the end result and now I have transitioned to the start of the process.
From this course my learning objectives are a deeper understanding of teaching methods, of the curriculum, the student, and diverse students. Also the methods of a great instructional plan for all involved. English language learners I will say are similar to what I am comfortable with. My native tongue is English, but to teach it to diverse learners may be difficult, but being a teacher is about facing the difficult and conquering. As an educator we must learn to teach diverse students, due to the diverse world we live in. There is nowhere we can go and not have to teach to one set standard of children. They all learn different, come from different backgrounds etc., therefore some form of diversity some differences great and some small.
As for my future a part of me would love to get back into the classroom, although so much is going on in North Carolina regarding teachers, teacher’s pay, classroom structure etc. I still feel good teache ...
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

4. Hi I’m Nike and I come from Sweden. For people who don’t know me I’m a former student at Phoenix. I
went to Phoenix Education the first two years that it was running, 2011/12 to 2013/14. My grade 6 and 7
years were spent here and along those two years there came people and memories into my life that I won’t
ever forget.
Last spring, around May 2015, I came back to Phoenix for two weeks. In Sweden, in eighth grade, we have
this thing called ―Prao‖ weeks. Prao is a kind of assignment that we have in school. Students need to spend
two weeks in a work environment to prepare us for real work in our adulthood. Some of you might have
already guessed where I chose to have my Prao.
I chose Phoenix because I know things here from before and I also wanted to see how it had moved forward
and also to widen my mind. I know from a student’s perspective how the school runs but I wanted to see it
from a teacher’s perspective. Everyone at Phoenix opened up their arms and welcomed me again. The two
weeks at Phoenix were spent by following teachers and their lessons. I got to meet the kids. Games were
played and I could slowly see how the kids interacted more and more with me. All the kids were fast learn-
ers and I got to see the different methods that were used for each age group. The teachers adapted for every
child’s needs and it shows how much work they put into it.
I was so happy with my stay at Phoenix, it has taught me loads. I’d like to give a special thanks to the
teachers and the employees at the school. Thank you for letting me follow you guys in your work and I’m
already longing to be back soon.

15. Hi, my name is Tyler and I am 11 years
and will be 12 in November. This is my
fifth year at Phoenix School and it is go-

year that will keep me company and
they are Kiệt and Ngọc. I like to play a
lot of sports as well, that is what I love

Let’s talk about subjects during school.
My favorite subjects in school are math,
science and English classes. In math I am
trying to do as much work as possible so
I can have a little bit more break time in
class and maybe a few math problems
when I do my homework. In science, we
did many experiments, which I also love
to do. We made a hover boat, a fire
tornado and water rockets …
Grade Six
I am excited for the Moon Festival, the
Halloween party, Christmas party and my
birthday. I am excited for these festivals
because they only happen once per year
and they are also very fun festivals. Du-
ring the Christmas holiday we get to re-
member all the Christmas songs, learn to
play them on the keyboard and perform
the Christmas plays. When the Moon Fes-
tival comes by every autumn of the year
depending upon the full moon of that
season, we get to eat some moon cakes
that my Mom made for the school, and
we get to do the dragon dance, make star
lanterns and play lots of games. For the
Halloween party we get to dress up in
different scary costumes and perform fun
songs and skits that David helps us with
and there are always games like every
other holiday.
