This document summarizes a panel discussion on user experience (UX) design. It introduces the four panelists and their roles in UX. The panelists then answer questions about how their organizations approach UX, the UX design process, collaboration between product management and UX designers, and examples of how UX has solved business problems or improved products. The discussion covers topics such as distinguishing UX from user interfaces (UI), key UX activities, where UX teams are located, and how product managers can learn UX essentials.
Mobile & Tablet UX | NYU School of Professional Studies | Week 1 (Intro)Liz Filardi
These are my slides for the first week of the class "Mobile and Tablet UX" at the NYU School of Professional Studies. The course is taught online in 4 sessions.
There are common questions at the beginning of a project such as who, what, where, when, and why. From a strategic perspective, one question might be: "How does this project align to the organization's mission and vision?" Another might be: "What are the goals for determining if users / customers are successfully using the system?" This interactive workshop will walk through the process of drafting a UX Strategy OneSheet document and the variety of benefits it can provide. This workshop is based on a presentation given at SXSW Interactive 2011 by Robert Hoekman, Jr.
It took 30 years before evidence based medicine became the standard. How long will it take before businesses will use the same rigor for making business decisions and optimizing their onboarding journeys?
At Booking.com I have experienced what a data driven organisation looks like, where experimentation is part of the culture. During this session I will share my experiences and learnings about how to scale the onboarding journey for of new apartment owner onto the Booking platform.

Disruption from Within with Zillow's Senior Product ManagerProduct School
Launching a new brand within a large company is a challenge - when that new brand disrupts the flagship brand, it’s a massive challenge. Michael took the participants on his journey of conception, to building, to the launch of RealEstate.com – a brand that competes with its parent company, Zillow.com.
He talked about starting from zero and convincing executives and other product teams that creating a disruptive new brand was (and is) a good idea. The audience learned a little bit about how Zillow Group’s product organizations work and more specifically how a team can still function as a small startup within a 2500+ person organization.
Presentation given at Heanet 2015 conference, giving a brief outline of what responsive design is and why libraries should take it into consideration when planning the delivery of web services.

Working from distance comes with its own set of challenges. Remote teams need to combat the "out of sight, out of mind" mentality and learn how to build trust in new ways. In this webinar, we'll explore how digital nomads, virtual entrepreneurs, and global organizations are reaching through the screens to collaborate seamlessly at a distance. You will walk away with new ideas for what it means to be present at work and how to create that sense camaraderie even when you're virtual.
It seems quite well understood who a ScrumMaster is, who a developer or tester is but what about the Product Owner. People often seem to fall into this role without a full understanding of what it's all about.
I frequently find myself wondering what the perfect Product Owner would look like. Where do they come from, what qualities and experience do they have and why are they so hard to find! What makes a good product owner and try and where can we find or how can we create this rare creature.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

7. The Questions
1. In your company/org how do you distinguish „UI‟ from „UX‟?---i.e., what
other elements of your product interaction, beyond the UI (screen) affects
the overall User Experience? Packaging? Install/Provisioning? Help?
Support? Tell us a quick war story.
2. What are the key activities involved in UX (not just design?) (eg. UX
Research, Design/Wireframes, Usability Testing, Style Guides, etc etc).
3. Who does UX in your organization? What are their competencies? Inside
which org is your UX team located? Dev? Product? Research? Other?
4. Why should Product Management care about UX?
8. The Questions
1. What processes have you seen used for UX design (lean)? How do you
balance UX and cost?
2. What does a „typical‟ UX cycle look like in your company? How long, and which
processes tend to be the longest poles in the tent?
3. How have cross-functional teams with diverse backgrounds and perspectives
impacted UX design output in your experience?
4. How do product management and UX designers collaborate in your
organization? What input do you want, and when, explicitly, from the Product
Managers/Owners you work with? Do you have any particularly memorable
experiences or stories you could share?
9. The Questions
1. How has UX design solved real world business problems in your
experience?
2. What are your experiences with executing design initiatives in an
environment of great uncertainty? Does uncertainty help? Hinder?
3. You often hear “XX product has a great design” from consumers (Apple,
Nike, etc). What is meant by “good/great” design in your experience and
why does the business care?
4. Other than your own products what‟s the best UX you‟ve seen, that you
aspire to? Why? The worst? Why?
10. The Questions-Time Pending
1. If a Product Owner/Manager (not an expert UX practitioner) has time to
read only one book or visit one site to learn UX essentials, where would you
point them & why?
2. It‟s often said that „little things mean a lot‟. Can you cite an example where
a seemingly little tweak made a big difference for your products UX?
