of the student as a whole person.
*PDHPE is an important key learning area within the primary
curriculum as it promotes physical activity to encourage
physical, social and emotional growth of all
students, supports the acquisition of essential movement
skills and nurtures positive attitudes towards lifelong healthy
and active lifestyles
“Regular Physical activity may improve
students’ concentration and cognitive
functioning”.
*Academic achievements.
*Better classroom behaviour.
*Better school attendance.
*Fitness, stamina and general good health are necessary
prerequisites for successful learning. Physical education skills
help the children to cope with life, and extract the most from
the variety of experiences.
*Through PDHPE, students are encouraged to adopt a holistic
approach to issues related to human health, development and
physical activity . Students develop knowledge and skills that
assist them to better manage their own wellbeing.
PDHPE aims to engage students in developing
skills beyond numeracy and literacy.
It focuses on,
*Moving
*Communicating
*Decision making
*Interacting
*Problem solving.
* living and learning in a safe
secure environment.
*The safety and security of children is enhanced when they
can recognise situations where their personal safety may be
at risk, and use strategies to protect themselves.
 Improved physical fitness
 Skill development
 Self discipline
 Stress reduction
 Improved self confidence and self esteem.
 Experience setting goals.
 Personal health choices

Research has shown that regular more than 15 minutes physical activity results in improved classroom behaviour. Better school attendance:Physically fit children come to school regularly and fewer disciplinary problems.
