PDHPEPDHPE is one of the 6 KLA’s for primary school students. PDPHE is just as important as any of the other key learning areas such as English or Mathematics in terms of a child’s wellbeing and development. As a school we aim to have produce healthy, well-balanced happy students who are well learned across all KLA areas.
What is Healthy?Health as defined by the World Health Organisation as a combination of physical, mental, and social well-being.
How to stay healthy…Children need a minimum of 60 minutes per day of moderate to vigorous physical activity outside of school hours to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Currently only 1 in 4 children reach this daily recommendation. Children learn habits from those around them, good role models equal a giant step in the direction towards a healthier life. http://www.healthykids.nsw.gov.au/stats-research/nsw-population-child-health-survey.aspx
Beyond SchoolingLack of physical activity has been identified as the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality, which just shows the importance of creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle in childhood. This is aimed to be achieved by the implementation of PDHPE in primary schools, and highlights the important role teachers play in their students lives.http://www.who.int/dietphysicalactivity/pa/en/
