The document provides a lesson plan for an English class focused on a Work and Travel program in the United States. The 80-minute lesson has the following goals: for students to learn about the program, read about job opportunities in three US regions, choose a job that matches their interests and skills, learn how to write a cover letter, and write an email with attachments applying for the chosen job. The lesson consists of three activities: students select a job, write a cover letter explaining their choice, and submit their resume and cover letter. Scaffolding and feedback are provided to support students through each stage.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Procedures
ROUTINE (5 minutes)
I say hello to the students and take attendance: “Hello everybody! How are you
today? Let’s see who is here and who is absent” As they get ready, I will quickly
take attendance, as I know all of their names. “Today we are going to finish
working with the topic we have been working for the past two classes,
remember? And, as I told you last class, this will be our last class together.”
WARM- UP (5 minutes)
To continue I will ask them to deliver their homework from the previous class
“Last Thursday I asked you to design your own resumé and bring the final
version, right?” I will wait for students to answer. Then I will say “And I ask you
3. to decide what kind of resumé will present, remember?” I will wait for their
answer (pick a traditional or interactive).
PRESENT ATI ON (10 minutes)
“The first class that I introduced this exchange program, I showed you a website
belonging to an agency that sells it and I asked you to say what places you would
pick if you got in this kind of program. Do you remember the places you chose?”
I will wait for them to answer and I will say: “Right! Some of you chose the city,
others the mountains and others the beach. Now I am going to present those
places and I am going to show you three different cities. Each one of them has
two different job positions” (see Power Point presentation in Appendix).
DEVELOP M ENT (PRACTI CE and PRODUCTI ON)
Activity 1 (10 minutes)
After I show the cities and job positons, students will have to pick one job to
apply for it. “Now it is your turn to start working! You have to choose a job
position that matches your interests and your abilities and apply for that job.”
First students will read about the descriptions of the job positions and them they
will pick one. (see “text“ in Appendix”). I will ask the students who have not
participated in this class yet to read the text from the presentation.
Activity 2 (20 minutes)
“After you have chosen the job, you will have to explain why you have done so”.
I will give students a minute to choose a job position and I will give them ????.
Meanwhile, I will write the main parts of a cover letter and some useful phrases
4. they might need (see “cover letter format” in Appendix). First I will explain
what a cover letter is. “A cover letter is a text in which you explain the contents
of another document you are sending, in this case, your resumé”. I will say that
in a cover letter students should:
introduce themselves;
mention the job they're applying for;
show that their skills and experience match the skills and experience
needed to do the job; and
encourage the reader to read their resume.
“Pay attention to what I wrote on the board. In order to write a cover letter you
have to include the name person you are sending the person you are sending the
email to, why you are sending the cover letter ”. I will tell them that they will also
be able to use vocabulary given by the class teacher previously.
Activity 3 (20 minutes)
Students will hand in the resumé they prepared as homework together with the
cover letter they had to write in this class. Before they do so, they will explain
why they have chosen that place and job position. As they give their reasons, I
will encourage the ones who do not speak much by asking questions so they can
give more information: “Why do you think you are qualified for that job?” “Why
did you choose X game over Y and Z?” “Do you think you will be able to get the
job?” As they speak, I will praise their answers so ad to encourage them to
continue.
CLOSURE (10 minutes)
5. To finish the class I will ask them to give me feedback. I will give each of them a
piece of paper and I will ask them to tell me which was their favourite topic and
activity and which activities or topics were not so interesting for them.
Once they finish, I will say thank you and give them a little goodbye gift “Thank
you very much for being part of my practicum, I wish you have a wonderful
weekend and hope to see you around!”
