The Nature Of The Mountain Men
The mountain men were known for their explorations and fur trapping in the Rocky Mountains and
the great plains from about 1810 to 1880. Outside of their explorations and trapping, the Mountain
Men also created Emigrant Trails which allowed Americans of the East to settle in the West. To some
they [mountain men] symbolized the rugged freedom of the frontier, to others, anarchy and
degradation. The debate surrounding mountain men was, at its core, really a debate about the nature of
the West: was the frontier the site of healthy independence or dangerous dissolution? Through the
rising and crashing of the trappers rendezvous in the 1840 s and the scarce enemies that the mountain
men had, Christopher Kit Carson, Jim Bridger, and James Jim Beckwourth continued to lead the
explorations and trappings in the Rocky Mountains making clear that those men were there promoting
healthy independence across the frontier during the 1840 s. For starters, the Mountain Men sold their
fur and created the Rocky Mountain Rendezvous in order to make profit. Essentially, the rendezvous
was a gathering that happened each year in various locations where trappers were able to sell their fur
and hides as well as replenish their supplies(Sage). These events were known to be lively places that
welcomed all (Barkin). The ones that typically showed were free trappers, Indians, native trappers
wives, children, and even travelers that had been passing through(Barkin). James Jim Beckwourth, a

Imagine you have just completed a trip through the early kingdoms and city states of East, Central,
and South Africa. Your family and friends ask you about the trip. Your task is to give them an oral
history of your experience. You may choose to write your account, record it, or make a video.
Remember, your family and friends will share your story and pass it on to future generations, like oral
historians in Africa. Make it fascinating! No one wants to hear a boring story.

Axum
On my second day, I have visited Axum, in Eastern Africa. A place that in the first century CE,
became the wealthiest, most influential market city on the coast of Ethiopia, it finally became a
kingdom in the third century CE. I also learned from the locals there that in fourth century CE,
missionaries had introduced Christianity to the city of Axum and King Ezana became the first known
Christian king in all of Africa, and finally in seventh century CE, Axum has come to a close end.
Arabs eventually came and conquered Adulis and cut off Axum s Red Sea trade route. Also, Axum
became successful by trading gold, glass, ivory, metal and agricultural gods with African,
Mediterranean and Asia trade networks, along with the Roman Empire, Egypt, Arabia and India.

cause serious and expensive engine damage. Proper maintenance of the cooling system is vital in
order to maintain the quality of the coolant and to make certain the cooling system is in good
operating condition. Additionally, a cracked head or blown head gasket can also cause overheating,
coolant loss and white exhaust smoke, which may indicate the need for engine repair. Common

Types Of Searches And Seizures
Being able to locate physical evidence from a civilian must be done with some sort of search and
seizure. There are many types of searches and seizures done with or without a warrant which can be a
big factor to case if done correctly. Warrantless searches have three purposes, the safety of the police
officer and seize weapons from any harm. To also seize weapons from any harm into resisting arrest or
to be able to flee, lastly to prevent the destruction of evidence or concealment. There is also consent
searches where one waives their right to privacy under the Fourth Amendment, giving the right to an
officer to search and seize any belonging seem fit for either harm to an officer or the public. Last there

Seeing that there was illegal actions being taken and hiding of contraband being heard it cleared the
part of not having to obtain a warrant by a judge or magistrate. Thus without these steps of illegal
activity and making ones presence be known by a police officer of entering one, a police officer would
have to have a warrant or the consent of one waiving their Fourth Amendment to be able to have a
search or seizure be conducted. Consent A consent search is one waiving their Fourth Amendment
right to have a search or seizure be conducted and still be taken with any penalties if found anything.
Jacinta A. Gau explains in Consent Searches as a Threat to Procedural Justice and Police legitimacy:
An Analysis of Consent Requests During Traffic Stops, how there are many traffic stops every year
and within those traffic stops many searches and seizure are being conducted, but from those searches
and seizures they are mainly from giving consent. Many of the consent searches and seizure are given
from either the fear of saying no will indicate hiding something or the fact that many do not know
their rights to be able to say no, or an officer not being able to make it clear from one being able to not
give consent. Police officers are not required to inform citizens of their right to withhold consent and
refuse a search, though

The Country Just Over The Fence By Paul Theroux
The Country Just over the Fence
In his essay The Country Just over the Fence, Paul Theroux describes his trip to Nogales, Mexico. He
begins his essay by illustrating the physical appearance of the wall separating Nogales, Arizona and
Nogales, Mexico. He calls it an unintentional masterpiece . Theroux feels the wall is somewhat
informal. He discovers that crossing the border into Mexico is not too difficult itself. He marvels over
the appearance of the wall and also the underlying call to action it places on a person, Do you go
through, or stay home? Theroux decided he needed to see for himself. After deciding to cross the
border, he met many different people. They told him about the celebrations that used to be held
between the two neighboring towns which are now divided by the wall. Theroux also met people who
had attempted to cross the border illegally into America only to get sent back to Mexico. On his
adventure, Theroux also learned about all the medical tourists who travel to the country for cheaper
treatments, specifically dentistry. I am interested in discussing Theroux s presentation of the his
decision to cross the border, the people he met, and the medical tourism Nogales, Mexico draws in.
At the beginning of his essay, Theroux is at the crossing point between Nogales, Arizona and Nogales,
Mexico. He tells of a soldier guarding the entrance who gave a slightly defensive answer when our
author asked why he hasn t visited Nogales, Mexico himself when it s

The Lone Night Cantina, And Adrian Tomine s Graphic Novel...
Since the mid to late twentieth century, Asian American literature has become a thriving outlet for
writers of Asian descent. This literary group was slow to form and remains difficult to define because
it is comprised of numerous ethnic groups that often share few, if any, ties to one another. However,
this formation was and continues to be critical in combating stereotypes and prejudice against Asian
Americans. Influenced by concepts of Orientalism, Western culture portrays Asia as source, a
competitor, and the opposite in regards to progress. Consequently, many in the United States consider
Asian Americans backwards and perpetual foreigners, despite being born in the same country.
Accordingly, common themes in Asian American literature address identity in regards to race, culture,
gender, and sexuality. Don Lee s short story, The Lone Night Cantina, and Adrian Tomine s graphic
novel, Shortcomings, explore these ideas through their protagonists relationship to the majority white
culture. The Lone Night Cantina follows Annie Yung, a Korean American Silicon Valley programmer,
in the midst of an identity crisis after breaking up with her boyfriend. While visiting her sister in
Rosarita Bay, she meets Joe Konki who initially seems to embody the hero of the Wild West who will
come rescue her. Shortcomings illustrates bitter Ben Tanaka s search for happiness and struggle with
his identity as a Japanese American. His preference for porn of white women strains his

The Social Structure Of The West
8th century and particular causes that explain why it was by far the most violent and the most
universally significant of these revolutions. The first of the general causes was the social structure of
the West. The feudal regime had been weakened step by step and had already disappeared in parts of
Europe. The increasingly numerous and prosperous elite of wealthy commoners merchants,
manufacturers, and professionals, often called the bourgeoisie aspired to political power in those
countries where it did not already possess it. The peasants, many of whom owned land, had attained
an improved standard of living and education and wanted to get rid of the last vestiges of feudalism so
as to acquire the full rights of landowners and to be free to increase their holdings. Furthermore, from
about 1730, higher standards of living had reduced the mortality rate among adults considerably. This,
together with other factors, had led to an increase in the population of Europe unprecedented for
several centuries: it doubled between 1715 and 1800. For France, which with 26 million inhabitants in
1789 was the most populated country of Europe, the problem was most acute. Voltaire [Credit: Stock
Montage/Hulton Archve/Getty Images]A larger population created a greater demand for food and
consumer goods. The discovery of new gold mines in Brazil had led to a general rise in prices
throughout the West from about 1730, indicating a prosperous economic situation. From about 1770,

Bessie Smith Research Paper
On April 15, 1894 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a baby girl named Elizabeth Smith was born. Her house
was full, as she was one of seven children and a daughter to a Baptist minister. At age nine, Elizabeth
lost her mother and one of her brothers. To make ends meet, she and her brother, Andrew, began to
perform on the streets: She sang and danced and he played the guitar. As she grew older, Elizabeth
went by the nickname Bessie. In 1904, Bessie s oldest brother, Clarence, left home and joined a
travelling band created by Moses Stokes. If Bessie had been old enough, she would have gone with
him, said Clarence s widow, Maud. That s why he left without telling her, but Clarence told me she
was ready, even then. Of course, she was only a child (Albertson 11). Clarence got Bessie an interview
the managers of his band and Bessie got hired. However, she was hired as a dancer, not a singer. It was
not because Bessie wasn t talented, but because they already had a well known singer by the name of
Ma Rainey. Through this, the two became friends, but Rainey did not tutor Smith like many sources
say (Bio.com). Bessie eventually went on to become the biggest star at the shows. ... Show more

Millford plantation is a historic place located on SC 261, west of Pinewood, SC. Built in 1839 1841,
Millford Plantation is considered by many to be the finest example of Greek revival residential
architecture in America. The house is located in such a remote section of rural SC that it comes to a
surprise to first time visitors, who must drive over miles of dirt roads and through thick forests to
reach the house. The house has massive columns, sixteen foot windows, a domed rotunda enclosing a
spectacular staircase. All these impressive features are inherent in Greek Rival architecture (Classical
American Homes). John Laurence Manning (1816 1819) built Millford plantation, he was the son of

Irony In The Screwtape Letters By C. S. Lewis
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is a book made up of 31 letters of teaching, communication, and
familial advice communicated with the only two physical tempters in the book, Screwtape, the mentor,
and his young eager to learn nephew or mentee, Wormworth. Screwtape uses the letters to aid him in
influencing his nephew to do as he does in actions, thoughts, and in his work and convinces him to
follow the way of Satan, their Father and to follow in both Screwtape and the Devil s path.
Wormworth s patient is a young male who has newly tried to connect with the Enemy , God.
Screwtape uses very common flaws, some of which are, materialism, physical attraction, and gluttony
to try to draw him away from God, and brainwash him into believing all of his thoughts and detesting
all outside sources as much as he can.
The letters utilize reoccurring literary devices utilized throughout the letters, two of the most prevalent
are satire and irony. The Screwtape Letters are infused with Irony, through statements that the readers
see and comprehend as see as what is most commonly perceived in human culture. Especially when
the two refer to the person whom Wormworth is trying to assimilate to his ways, as his patient when
conventionally people think of a patient as someone you are trying to help not hinder, in this case, as
well as Screwtape referring to God as deceitful and disloyal while he and Wormworth are not even
loyal to one another, and followed the teachings of Satan, the leader of deceit. He uses satire
throughout the entire format of the 31 letters. experienced devil is helping the younger one become
better at what they do.
The Nineteenth letter opens many doors in learning the true characteristics of Screwtape. Up until this
point he has written his letters in a stern, friendly, and affectionate mentoring tone trying to influence
his protégé Wormwood to do to his patient as Screwtape has done to his in the past. But now in the
nineteenth letter the readers are now enlightened to how synthetic his exchanges have been thus far.
This chapter reveals the true malicious nature of both Screwtape and Wormwood, neither of them have
any sense of loyalty to one another. Screwtape is especially vengeful not

(2014). Adopted children and stepchildren: 2010. Washington, DC: U.S. Department of Commerce.
This report details the 2010 census, which was the first to determine the relationship of the children
that reside in a household. The report shows a table that separates children by adopted children,
stepchildren, and biological children and then by the age groups of under six, six to eleven, twelve to
seventeen, and eighteen and under. It shows that, with the exception of biological children, most age
groups are at a fairly even percentage between adopted, step children living in any given household.
I intend to use this table to show that adopted children are represented at the same level as any other
child in the United States and deserve the same rights as a non adopted child. Keeping the adoptees
records sealed from them does affect a large percentage of children and denying them the information
that they should be entitled to as an adult for any reason they chose to want their information, whether
it be medical or just curiosity.

School Dress Codes And Stereotype Girls
A distraction is defined as anything that prevents someone from giving full attention to something
else. Schools ridicule and stereotype girls as distractions . School dress codes have been modified to
fix the distracting criteria. From filling ideals of modern day sexism, diminishing personal expression,
and finally targeting self esteem. Ideals of modern day sexism are a huge problem in our society. From
a young age girls are taught our bodies are always sexualized and we must cover them. Schools
enforce dress codes for more than one reason, the most common is to represent professionalism and

Reflection On Dreaming And Consciousness
The Robert Berezin M.D. author of the article Reflections On Dreaming and Consciousness discusses
what we are dreaming when we are sleeping and how they operate when we are sleeping. In the
article, he claims that during sleep our muscle goes to rest and all the waste products of muscle
activity eliminated. The author supports most dreams are emotional conflicts and in my dreams are
emotional conflicts, when I dream about the pain, the dreams help me to settle down my emotion
because I took an action against pain in my dream. The author describes that people address conflict
through the dreams such as pain, hopes, sexual interest. I strongly agree with him because whenever I
face conflicts, the dreams help me to settle down my emotion because I took an action against
conflicts in my dream and this make me feel better. The authors mention that we do not fully
remember our dreams. I think the reasons people do not remember their dreams because I believe a
dream is a fantasy world, dreams are not turning out as an actual real life event. Whatever we do
throughout the day and whatever consequences we face throughout the day converted into a story and
we saw that image in our dreams, in fact, the dreams do not solve problems in our life, when we
dream about addressing the problem we wish we could solve the problem this way. So, the dreams are
kind of useless in our life, therefore, most people forget about their dreams and they only remember
tiny portions.
My textbook says about the dreams is our dream simply reflect life events that are important to the
people. In the textbook, famous scientist Freud classified dreams as a two categorized such as
manifest content and latent content. The manifest content is our important events convert into a
storyline and we see the visual image, on the other hand, latent content is a hidden meaning of the
dream. The psychologists also discover lucid dreams and this dream are slightly different than a
regular dream because a person is conscious when they are dreaming also the dreamer control the
content of the dreams. My notes support the author claim about people dreams on sexual interest
because my notes say approximately 95% of peoples dreams about the sexual interest and

Air Pollution And Its Effects On Health
Air pollution is considered the presence of a harmful substance in the air. All aerobic biological
system use oxygen as an essential part of their physiological cellular metabolic processes (Valavanidis
et. al 2013). With the inclusion of oxygen within our biological systems come complications. More
specifically, air pollution has been deemed hazardous to human health. Air pollution is a complex and
abundant mixture of pollutants. The combination of matter includes particulate matter, chemical
substance, biological materials as well as particles that are large enough to be seen with the naked eye.
Regardless the type of particles it consists of, particulate matter is associated with triggering serious
health complications. There is an upsurge in awareness of adverse effects on health due to both acute
and chronic exposure to particulate matter. Furthermore, epidemiological as well as toxicological
studies continue to discover a correlation between particle pollution and mortality. The objective of
this paper is to discuss particulate matter and address the health problems it can manifest. Particulate
matter is particle air pollution that consists of both organic and inorganic molecules (Blomberg 2012).
This particle pollution, also known as PM, is constructed of inhalable coarse particles as well as fine
course particles. These particles consist of various sizes, which are unequivocally connected to
causations of health ailments. The inhalable course particles (PM10) have

Achievement of the American Dream of an African American...
The Huxtable family in The Cosby Show represents the overarching achievement of the American
dream through an African American family. According to Marvin Riggs s 1992 documentary Color
Adjustment there were two types of images of African Americans in the media. On one hand, the news
showed the social and racial tensions that enveloped the post civil rights era. On the other hand,
primetime television depicted social harmony among the races an image that most Americans
understood as inaccurate. In the 1980s, most African Americans lived below the poverty line and
primetime television hesitated to present that challenged ideology of the American Dream to the
viewing public. Henry Louis Gates Jr. argues, in Color Adjustment, that the Black urban sitcoms
demonstrated both the greatest potential for representing Black life in television s history and also the
greatest failure. Residing comfortably in a Brooklyn brownstone, the Huxtables embodied a nuclear
and solid family resolving everyday issues of urban life, showing that African Americans could move
beyond the stereotypical realm of crooks and servants. The world of the Huxtable family created an
aspirational fantasy for minorities groups. The I m With The In Crowd episode succeeds in creating
this sense of hope for African Americans by idealizing the Huxtable family through the use of costume
and set design, while perpetuating certain African American stereotypes through acting methods and
the non diegetic laughter of

increasing stores base. Also the effects of the short run growth drivers will likely taper off after some
years. In the long run, the company may likely have to close more stores than it opens to maintain its
strong store productivity levels. (2) Given the short run period growth drivers outlined, especially the
impact of the economic recession, store productivity is expected to increase. We have assumed a
ceiling of ~$750 sq.ft; as only very high end boutique apparel stores have sustained such productivity
levels. From 2014, productivity is forecast to decrease to normal industry average levels of sales of
~$550 $600/Sq.ft. (3) Average Sq.ft/store is assumed to remain the same over the forecast period. This
assumption appears reasonable since historically the four year CAGR is 0.43%. 3 (4) The same
store revenue growth rate provided in the 10 Q for 2010 is assumed for the shortrun; as the company
has proven that it can achieve that. However, as the stores base increases in the long run, it become
harder to sustain this growth rate. Therefore we have assumed a lower long run rate; more aligned to
more mature companies in the industry. Sensitivity Analysis Upon conducting the sensitivity analysis
(see Exhibit 1), we determined the key factors driving the valuation:  Discount rate  Tax rate 

The Impact Of Canadian Policing During The Nineteenth Century
2) There has been an evolution of police work in Canada. A number of events have shaped Canadian
policing, and in particular have shaped three different kinds. These are municipal, provincial, and
federal police services. All these services had to start from somewhere. In many respects, the
emergence of Canadian policing during the nineteenth century closely mirrored the development of
punishment and corrections (Griffiths 2004).
In the earliest days, policing in communities was carried out by community residents. Later, some
communities started to rely on militias and the navy, while other regions remained unpoliced. These
situations were obviously not sufficient to deal with the rising problems faced in an industrialized
society. These times are categorized as early municipal policing. Complaints by fishermen led to the
first court of justice in North America in Trinity Bay. These early attempts eventually failed. The
English appointed fishing admirals , who were captains of fishing vessels empowered to settle
disputes. These men were untrained, and normally no better than the people they were to police. In
1792 a Royal proclamation was issued that authorized the Governor of Newfoundland to appoint
justices and constables (Course Notes). Early municipal police had three main mandates which were:
to police conflicts with ethnic groups, to maintain moral standards by enforcing laws against
drunkenness, prostitution and gambling, and to apprehend criminals. Townspeople

Analysis Of Joan Didion s Goodbye
Timothy Huang
Mr. Moran
AP Rhet
August 20, 2015 Critique on Goodbye to All That In Goodbye to All That by Joan Didion, Didion
talks about her personal story of her experiences in New York as a woman in her twenties. The story is
presented in a manner of an essay in which she shares her perception of New York as only suitable for
the very young with an aspiration to reach a target of success. This analysis will review Didion s
personal endeavors along with her arguments and examine the excellency of the essay. The essay is
about a woman, Joan Didion, from the South and her experience with living in New York. It takes us
through her initial enchantment with the possibilities and her ideas of New York based on what she
has read and hear. Didion states that she almost lived in a fantasy world of what New York could offer,
causing her never to settle down or commit to anything, in hopes of what could be just around the
corner. As years go by, she finally realizes that actually New York was not a dream world fantasy
where she could be in hopes and dreams, but it was a grim reality that had just sucked up all her time
and her dreams. She never accomplished her goal of becoming a successful writer, she was making
only $65 to $70 then a week [...] so little money that some weeks [she] had to charge food at
Bloomingdale s gourmet shop in order to eat. Yet Didion stayed until she had, stay[ed] too long at the
Fair. What used to be new and exciting and adventurous soon

Business Plan for Small Scale Mining in Sierra Leone

9.25 CT DIAMOND FROM SIERRA LEONE
CONTENTS
1. GENERAL 2. INITIAL REQUIREMENTS
GENERAL
For the last 2 years our company has been closely following the Sierra Leanean diamond Industry if
we can call it that. Sierra Leone is a small country in West Africa mainly known because of the bloody
and vicious civill war which ended about 3 years ago. I have visited this country a few times each time
for a period of 1 month or more. During those vistts I tried to familiarize myself with the diamond and
gold mining industry. During those visits I have been in Freetown (the capital of Sierra Leone) in
which I successfully dealt with all the necessary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

5. MAKING THE CONNECTION WITH THE LOCALS AND GETTING THE LOCAL LICENCES.
[pic]
We were put in contact by the mines ministry people with the (Paramount Chief) of Kamakwie area.
The chief seems to be a faily decent person, more reliable than most locals. He is a relatively educated
person and easy to deal with. After the initial meeting in Freetown we drove the company jeep to
Kamakwie to close the deal. We spent in Kamakwie around 3 weeks during which we got an initial
tour of the area, decided on the first site, signed the contract and started testing the site. Anexed is the
the contact for the site, signed with the chief (ih handwriting). This contract together with my local
resident Visa/work permit which II have aqquired in Freetown (see annexed), and the company papers
is almost enough for us to practice mining in Kamakwie. The single additional document needed, is a
local licence from the mining ministry branch nearest to Kamakwie (Makenny). At the time I am
writing this Document, the licence is ready and waiting for me upon my return. One very important
obstacle we overcame in kamakwie is the residence place. As mentioned before this is a very bacward
place with no electricity , running water, communication (no cellphone reception)

We Must Spend Our Days
One week a summer, for as long as I can remember, I wave goodbye to my mom through the car
window at six in the morning. I am inside my family s Subaru Outback along with my dad, little
brother, little sister, and a trunk full of camping gear packed so methodically that there is a six inch
square of sight out the rear window. After a five hour drive we will be transported from the neat
suburbs of Long Island to the forests of the Adirondack Mountains, where we will be greeted by my
Aunt Carol and her dog Baxter. For this week we will sleep in a lean to looking out onto Taylor Pond
at our favorite campsite, I 3. We will spend our days in the pond and our nights around a fire. Our car
and cell phones will be a five mile canoe ride away, just far enough that we may actually escape their
omnipresence for a while. Although we may return home with clothes reeking of smoke and bodies
covered in mosquito bites, our trip to this other world will have been well worth it. On Taylor Pond
our isolation from society cannot be confused with actually being alone. We have loons, deer, eagles,
frogs, and the occasional howling coyotes to keep us company. The loons are normally the first to
greet us, after we ve loaded the canoes and commenced our five mile paddle down the pond. Their
signature sleek black heads can be tricky to spot as they are bobbing on the water one second, and are
200 feet under the surface the next. If you re up early enough to catch sunrise it will likely be

The Pros And Cons Of Suicides In Japan
Japan has always been one of the great powers of the world. It has one of the highest economies
globally and that is due to the efficiency and perseverance of the Japanese workers. However, it has
one of the highest suicide rates in the world which makes it sound abnormal for such a successful
country. It reached 19.5 suicides among every 100,000 Japanese. In addition, In 2003, 34,000 lives
were lost to suicide and the number decreased till it reached 21,897 suicides in 2016 which is still not
a number to be celebrated. Japan suicide rate may be high as many Japanese suffer from financial
problems. However, to explain the Why we need to look at Japan s Religions which open possibilities
to commit suicide.
The number of suicides in Japan was over 20,000 persons per year but this number jumped to over
than 30,000 persons per year in 1998 when the Japanese financial crisis happened, since this crisis the
number have been high. The Japanese financial crisis led Japan to witness what is called the lost
decade as many people lost their money and jobs and faced poverty and unemployment.
According to Health and Global Policy Institute, this graph shows that suicides number increased
steeply in 1998 and it stayed high ever since. Following the 1998 financial crisis, most age groups for
both men and women show an increased suicide rate (Tanisho, 2013) The article also demonstrates
that the highest proportion of suicides is among the middle aged me. Money related issues

Literature Review On Nurse To-Patient Ratios
Literature Review The topic of appropriate nurse to patient ratios has been a highly researched subject
for over a decade. Many researchers approach this topic by focusing on the effect that high nurse to
patient ratios have on patient outcomes often called nurse specific indicators . The following includes
a summary of five recent studies conducted on the cause and effect relationship between high nurse to
patient ratios and the increased occurrence of nurse specific indicators (e.g. urinary tract infection,
patient falls, central line associated blood stream infections, etc). California passed Assembly Bill 394,
making them the first state to pass a law that required hospitals to limit the amount of patients
included in a nurse s workload. The California Assembly Bill 394 (AB394) was put into effect on
January 1, 2004. In 2012 a study was conducted to determine if mandated nurse to patient ratios
actually had a positive impact on patient outcomes. This study examined medical/surgical units in
California hospitals. The data used to compare outcomes before and after passing AB394 was from the
year 2000 2002 for the before data. The after data was from the years 2005 2006 (Cook, Gaynor,
Stephens, Taylor, 2012). Shockingly, the data compared before and after the implementation of AB394
showed only a slight decrease in adverse patient outcomes. One patient outcome specifically
mentioned was hospital acquired pressure ulcers. The occurrence rate of hospital acquired

Nazca Research Paper
Nazca Traveling somewhere new and gaining new experiences is exceedingly beneficial. Challenging
yourself, expanding your perspective, and learning about new cultures are just some of the benefits. If
I could travel anywhere in the world where would I go? Somewhere like the beach or the mountains?
The one place I would choose to visit is the town of Nazca. This town is specifically known for The
Nazca Lines. The Nazca lines are large geoglyphs created by removing large amounts of rock and dirt,
located in the Peruvian Desert within southern Peru. These lines are believed to be created by the
Nazca tribe somewhere between 500 BC and 500 AD. the lines were discovered by Peruvian
archaeologist Toribio Mejia Xesspe in 1927. The nazca lines depict creatures such as fish, birds, and
other animals. They are said to be made up over 800 straight lines, 300 geometric designs. Most of the
lines are between 10 to 30 cm deep. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to some scientist and conspiracist these lines were created to attract aliens. Others believe it
was a monument to their gods. However the biggest mystery is how the Nazca people were able to
create such precise geoglyphs without an aerial view. The largest figure stretches about 200 meters
long. There are some scholars who believe that the Nazca Lines is one of the earliest examples of
applied geometry. Tens of thousands of visitors vacation there every year. Other than the preeminent
architectural sites another entrancing point is the Nazca Channels. The ancient Nazca people created
an underground aqueduct system irrigates the drylands. However, undeterred by this harsh climate the
Nazcas, aided by the aqueducts were able to grow cotton fields, corn, beans, potatoes, and numerous
fruits. For the Nazcas when it came to pottery and textiles they were ahead of their

The Fountain Reflection
The Fountain, directed by Darren Aronofsky, is a dramatic sci fi esque film centered around the main
character, Tommy. The film begins in the past setting with the line, Let s finish this . These three
words capture the film s entire conflict, death. Every living thing dies, however it takes the span of the
movie for Tommy to realize this. In the beginning, he is weary of death, believing that it is a disease.
Present Tommy is obsessed on saving his wife Izzi from her fatal brain tumor, while Future Tommy is
taking a tree, presumably Izzi, to Shibalba to be healed. He is unable to accept the death of someone
that he loves, and therefore puts all his time and efforts into curing death. Even in the past, Queen
Isabella of Spain asks Tommy to find eternal life to save Spain, leading him in a mindless quest for the
tree of life and a brutal death when he does find his goal. All the while, present day Izzi has come to
accept her own death. She is content in her life. Tommy does not recognize this, putting his wife
second to her illness. We can see this when she asks him to take a walk with her, to which he denies.
This scene replays throughout the movie, highlighting Tommy s mistake of choosing his work over
her. In doing this, he losses his wedding ring because he is no longer worthy of wearing it.
In her freetime, Izzi had been writing a book. When Izzi is sick in the hospital, he bring her, her
journal. Izzi, however, asks Tommy to finish the last chapter. During her

The United States Navy Essay
The United States of America has not always been the world superpower that it is today. The same
goes for its Navy. In the first several years of existence, the United States Navy was not a formidable
fighting force. The young nation was hesitant to invest in a navy for many reasons, one of them being
to prevent provoking the world powers of the time, France and Britain. On top of that, navies were
very expensive to build and required a significant amount of resources to maintain, which the U.S. did
not have at the time. To say that the United States Navy was ill prepared for war would be a dramatic
understatement. The U.S. had a total of fifteen ships in its entire naval fleet compared to the might of
the Royal Navy which possessed over six hundred warships. Even with the odds stacked against the
U.S., President Madison declared war on 18 JUN 1812. The lack of size and power of the navy at the
time would make it extremely difficult to satisfy the needs of the newly founded nation.
The U.S. had enough of the British Navy impressing American sailors and seizing American merchant
ships. Even though the U.S. Navy lacked the size that British had, the Royal Navy was stretched to its
limits. Many of the British efforts were focused on the Napoleonic wars taking place in Europe,
leaving just two dozen British ships between Halifax and Bermuda. The U.S. frigates were larger and
had much more armament than those of the British giving the U.S. one more key advantage over their

lignocaine used for IVRA. Their main objective was to measure efficacy of adjuvants and successful

Memis and colleagues (2004) investigated the effects of adding dexmedetomidine (0.5µg/kg) to 40 ml
0.5% lignocaine during Bier`s block. They found significant shortening of the sensory block onset
time in the dexmedetomidine group (4.4± 2.1 min) compared to control group (6.5±2.1 min), with
prolonged sensory and motor block recovery times, prolonged tolerance for the tourniquet and
improved quality of anesthesia in the dexmedetomidine group. Time to first analgesic requirements
was significantly longer in dexmedetomidine group. They concluded that Dexmedetomidine as
adjuvant to IVRA, effectively improved onset of block, prolonged duration of block and reduces the
need for postoperative analgesia. In our study the sensory block onset time in LD group was(56±2.9
sec) which is shorter than the sensory block onset time in the dexmedetomidine group in Memis and
college study this can be explained be the fact that we used double the dose of dexmedetomidine
which they used [15]. Esmaogluand coworkers (2005) studied the effect of a higher dose of
Dexmedetomidine on 40 patients scheduled for elective hand surgery. IVRA was achieved using 3 mg/

My Aunt Julie Is One Of The Most Amazing, Sweet, And...
My aunt Julie is one of the most amazing, sweet, and hilarious people I have ever met.
She has the most beautiful and kind soul. She was also born with a severe mental and physical
handicap called Cerebral Palsy. It is a condition that occurs when the brain hasn t completely
developed at birth, in Julie s case she was born prematurely and was also a twin, making her even
smaller and more frail at birth. Julie was born not breathing and the doctors couldn t get her to start
breathing for 5 minutes after she was born. She is now in her early fifties, but only has the mental
capability of a 78 year old child. She has been in a wheelchair for her whole life and never even taken
one step, she also has very minimal control of her arms and hands. Julie also has a very hard time
controlling her temper and her emotions, I can only assume that it is because she feels as though she is
trapped in her own body and will never be able to get out of it and feel free.
Julie has this crazy love for Nascar and has never missed watching a race. Everyone has their little
obsessions, for my six year old nephew it is toy cars, my older brother it is playing the guitar, for me it
is Cadbury Eggs, but for Julie it is Nascar races and the Nascar driver Dale
Earnhardt JR. In 2013 my mom and I had decided to take Julie to go see the Daytona 500 in
Daytona Florida. This was such a huge deal for Julie because she had never been out of the state of
Utah let alone on a plane halfway across the country,

The Effect of Temperature on the Rate of Reaction
The Effect of Temperature on the Rate of Reaction Aim We is going to investigate how temperature
effects the rate of reaction when we use a Magnesium Ribbon and dissolve it in Hydrochloric Acid.
Different Variables There are four different variables that effect the rate of reaction, surface area,
concentration, temperature and catalysts. Here is some information on each variable with diagrams.
How does surface area effect rate of reaction? In a substance the rate of reaction will be quicker if it
has a large surface area. However, if it has a small surface area the rate of reaction is much slower.
Rate of Reaction is much faster if the surface area is larger because much more of the ... Show more

6) The Bunsen burner will be lit using a match, put on the blue flame and placed under the beaker. 7)
When the temperature reaches 25°C, on the thermometer (It shouldn t take long as it is around room
temperature, anyway), we will take the test tube out of the water and place one of the pieces of
Magnesium Ribbon in the Hydrochloric Acid. We will start the stopwatch (a stopwatch gives us very
accurate readings when recording time) as soon as the Magnesium Ribbon hits the Hydrochloric Acid.
8) When the Magnesium Ribbon has completely disappeared, we shall stop the stopwatch and record
the time it took for the Magnesium Ribbon to disappear. 9) This process will be repeated for 25°C,
twice. Then we will do the same experiment for the other temperatures, doing each temperature three
times. The plan/method above is a very good way of carrying out the experiment. This is because the
rate of reaction is effected by temperature. Using the Bunsen burner makes this plan a good way of
carrying out this experiment. As the Hydrochloric acid will be heated using the blue flame, it will heat
up faster so the results for each temperature can be obtained quickly. Also using a stopwatch makes
the plan a very good way of carrying out the experiment because it is very precise when recording
how long it takes for something to happen. List of equipment Here is a list of equipment that we

Examples Of Immortality In The Iliad
As is already known, Homeric literature served as the model for educating Greek boys and young
men, as well male Roman citizens later on in Antiquity. The passages of Homer and Hesiod instructed
a decorum which defined proper behavior as unyielding bravery in the field of battle, and the
continuous desire for besting an opponent through strident competition, or agon in the Greek. Achilles
defined this part of heroic conduct, while Odysseus, through his renowned ability for persuasion,
defined the other. Ideally therefore, both ways melded together provided a path to immortality and
glory, which was the ultimate goal for every male aspirant in Classical Athens. As can be witnessed in
Homeric literature especially the Iliad the real meaning of this immortality lay in the recognition of
one s achievements by his peers. And while immortality naturally meant being remembered for one s
actions, the potential for infamy also was part and parcel of this method. Therefore, this path to
everlasting glory may been seen as highly individualistic, with no lasting contribution to the society
left behind. Yet this masculine nihilistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And as previously mentioned, without the positive recognition of one s peers, the motivating factor in
this equation is of course, shame. This means that there is no self guiding principle leading toward the
benefit of others, rather, the actor performed in a way he believed would meet approval. One may
recall Agenor s brief consideration whether to fight or flee in book 21 of the Iliad. Therefore, the
moniker of masculine nihilistic. At the other end of the scale, the feminine procreating, an inspired
individual (Socrates) sought to cement his place in eternity through constructive dialogue with a pupil
who in turn would repeat the procedure, thus ensuring a continuous

  • 2. The Nature Of The Mountain Men The mountain men were known for their explorations and fur trapping in the Rocky Mountains and the great plains from about 1810 to 1880. Outside of their explorations and trapping, the Mountain Men also created Emigrant Trails which allowed Americans of the East to settle in the West. To some they [mountain men] symbolized the rugged freedom of the frontier, to others, anarchy and degradation. The debate surrounding mountain men was, at its core, really a debate about the nature of the West: was the frontier the site of healthy independence or dangerous dissolution? Through the rising and crashing of the trappers rendezvous in the 1840 s and the scarce enemies that the mountain men had, Christopher Kit Carson, Jim Bridger, and James Jim Beckwourth continued to lead the explorations and trappings in the Rocky Mountains making clear that those men were there promoting healthy independence across the frontier during the 1840 s. For starters, the Mountain Men sold their fur and created the Rocky Mountain Rendezvous in order to make profit. Essentially, the rendezvous was a gathering that happened each year in various locations where trappers were able to sell their fur and hides as well as replenish their supplies(Sage). These events were known to be lively places that welcomed all (Barkin). The ones that typically showed were free trappers, Indians, native trappers wives, children, and even travelers that had been passing through(Barkin). James Jim Beckwourth, a ... Axum On my second day, I have visited Axum, in Eastern Africa. A place that in the first century CE, became the wealthiest, most influential market city on the coast of Ethiopia, it finally became a kingdom in the third century CE. I also learned from the locals there that in fourth century CE, missionaries had introduced Christianity to the city of Axum and King Ezana became the first known Christian king in all of Africa, and finally in seventh century CE, Axum has come to a close end. Arabs eventually came and conquered Adulis and cut off Axum s Red Sea trade route. Also, Axum became successful by trading gold, glass, ivory, metal and agricultural gods with African, Mediterranean and Asia trade networks, along with the Roman Empire, Egypt, Arabia and India. Thus without these steps of illegal activity and making ones presence be known by a police officer of entering one, a police officer would have to have a warrant or the consent of one waiving their Fourth Amendment to be able to have a search or seizure be conducted. Consent A consent search is one waiving their Fourth Amendment right to have a search or seizure be conducted and still be taken with any penalties if found anything. Jacinta A. Gau explains in Consent Searches as a Threat to Procedural Justice and Police legitimacy: An Analysis of Consent Requests During Traffic Stops, how there are many traffic stops every year and within those traffic stops many searches and seizure are being conducted, but from those searches and seizures they are mainly from giving consent. Many of the consent searches and seizure are given from either the fear of saying no will indicate hiding something or the fact that many do not know their rights to be able to say no, or an officer not being able to make it clear from one being able to not give consent. • 6. The Country Just Over The Fence By Paul Theroux The Country Just over the Fence In his essay The Country Just over the Fence, Paul Theroux describes his trip to Nogales, Mexico. He begins his essay by illustrating the physical appearance of the wall separating Nogales, Arizona and Nogales, Mexico. He calls it an unintentional masterpiece . Theroux feels the wall is somewhat informal. He discovers that crossing the border into Mexico is not too difficult itself. He marvels over the appearance of the wall and also the underlying call to action it places on a person, Do you go through, or stay home? Theroux decided he needed to see for himself. After deciding to cross the border, he met many different people. They told him about the celebrations that used to be held between the two neighboring towns which are now divided by the wall. Theroux also met people who had attempted to cross the border illegally into America only to get sent back to Mexico. On his adventure, Theroux also learned about all the medical tourists who travel to the country for cheaper treatments, specifically dentistry. I am interested in discussing Theroux s presentation of the his decision to cross the border, the people he met, and the medical tourism Nogales, Mexico draws in. At the beginning of his essay, Theroux is at the crossing point between Nogales, Arizona and Nogales, Mexico. He tells of a soldier guarding the entrance who gave a slightly defensive answer when our author asked why he hasn t visited Nogales, Mexico himself when it s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Lone Night Cantina, And Adrian Tomine s Graphic Novel... Since the mid to late twentieth century, Asian American literature has become a thriving outlet for writers of Asian descent. This literary group was slow to form and remains difficult to define because it is comprised of numerous ethnic groups that often share few, if any, ties to one another. However, this formation was and continues to be critical in combating stereotypes and prejudice against Asian Americans. Influenced by concepts of Orientalism, Western culture portrays Asia as source, a competitor, and the opposite in regards to progress. Consequently, many in the United States consider Asian Americans backwards and perpetual foreigners, despite being born in the same country. Accordingly, common themes in Asian American literature address identity in regards to race, culture, gender, and sexuality. Don Lee s short story, The Lone Night Cantina, and Adrian Tomine s graphic novel, Shortcomings, explore these ideas through their protagonists relationship to the majority white culture. The Lone Night Cantina follows Annie Yung, a Korean American Silicon Valley programmer, in the midst of an identity crisis after breaking up with her boyfriend. While visiting her sister in Rosarita Bay, she meets Joe Konki who initially seems to embody the hero of the Wild West who will come rescue her. Shortcomings illustrates bitter Ben Tanaka s search for happiness and struggle with his identity as a Japanese American. His preference for porn of white women strains his ... • 8. The Social Structure Of The West 8th century and particular causes that explain why it was by far the most violent and the most universally significant of these revolutions. The first of the general causes was the social structure of the West. The feudal regime had been weakened step by step and had already disappeared in parts of Europe. The increasingly numerous and prosperous elite of wealthy commoners merchants, manufacturers, and professionals, often called the bourgeoisie aspired to political power in those countries where it did not already possess it. The peasants, many of whom owned land, had attained an improved standard of living and education and wanted to get rid of the last vestiges of feudalism so as to acquire the full rights of landowners and to be free to increase their holdings. Furthermore, from about 1730, higher standards of living had reduced the mortality rate among adults considerably. This, together with other factors, had led to an increase in the population of Europe unprecedented for several centuries: it doubled between 1715 and 1800. For France, which with 26 million inhabitants in 1789 was the most populated country of Europe, the problem was most acute. Voltaire [Credit: Stock Montage/Hulton Archve/Getty Images]A larger population created a greater demand for food and consumer goods. The discovery of new gold mines in Brazil had led to a general rise in prices throughout the West from about 1730, indicating a prosperous economic situation. From about 1770, this trend ... • 11. Bessie Smith Research Paper On April 15, 1894 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a baby girl named Elizabeth Smith was born. Her house was full, as she was one of seven children and a daughter to a Baptist minister. At age nine, Elizabeth lost her mother and one of her brothers. To make ends meet, she and her brother, Andrew, began to perform on the streets: She sang and danced and he played the guitar. As she grew older, Elizabeth went by the nickname Bessie. In 1904, Bessie s oldest brother, Clarence, left home and joined a travelling band created by Moses Stokes. If Bessie had been old enough, she would have gone with him, said Clarence s widow, Maud. That s why he left without telling her, but Clarence told me she was ready, even then. Of course, she was only a child (Albertson 11). Clarence got Bessie an interview the managers of his band and Bessie got hired. However, she was hired as a dancer, not a singer. Built in 1839 1841, Millford Plantation is considered by many to be the finest example of Greek revival residential architecture in America. The house is located in such a remote section of rural SC that it comes to a surprise to first time visitors, who must drive over miles of dirt roads and through thick forests to reach the house. • 13. Irony In The Screwtape Letters By C. S. Lewis The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is a book made up of 31 letters of teaching, communication, and familial advice communicated with the only two physical tempters in the book, Screwtape, the mentor, and his young eager to learn nephew or mentee, Wormworth. Screwtape uses the letters to aid him in influencing his nephew to do as he does in actions, thoughts, and in his work and convinces him to follow the way of Satan, their Father and to follow in both Screwtape and the Devil s path. Wormworth s patient is a young male who has newly tried to connect with the Enemy , God. Screwtape uses very common flaws, some of which are, materialism, physical attraction, and gluttony to try to draw him away from God, and brainwash him into believing all of his thoughts and detesting all outside sources as much as he can. The letters utilize reoccurring literary devices utilized throughout the letters, two of the most prevalent are satire and irony. The Screwtape Letters are infused with Irony, through statements that the readers see and comprehend as see as what is most commonly perceived in human culture. • 17. Reflection On Dreaming And Consciousness The Robert Berezin M.D. author of the article Reflections On Dreaming and Consciousness discusses what we are dreaming when we are sleeping and how they operate when we are sleeping. In the article, he claims that during sleep our muscle goes to rest and all the waste products of muscle activity eliminated. The author supports most dreams are emotional conflicts and in my dreams are emotional conflicts, when I dream about the pain, the dreams help me to settle down my emotion because I took an action against pain in my dream. The author describes that people address conflict through the dreams such as pain, hopes, sexual interest. I strongly agree with him because whenever I face conflicts, the dreams help me to settle down my emotion because I took an action against conflicts in my dream and this make me feel better. The authors mention that we do not fully remember our dreams. I think the reasons people do not remember their dreams because I believe a dream is a fantasy world, dreams are not turning out as an actual real life event. Whatever we do throughout the day and whatever consequences we face throughout the day converted into a story and we saw that image in our dreams, in fact, the dreams do not solve problems in our life, when we dream about addressing the problem we wish we could solve the problem this way. So, the dreams are kind of useless in our life, therefore, most people forget about their dreams and they only remember tiny portions. My textbook says about the dreams is our dream simply reflect life events that are important to the people. In the textbook, famous scientist Freud classified dreams as a two categorized such as manifest content and latent content. The manifest content is our important events convert into a storyline and we see the visual image, on the other hand, latent content is a hidden meaning of the dream. The psychologists also discover lucid dreams and this dream are slightly different than a regular dream because a person is conscious when they are dreaming also the dreamer control the content of the dreams. My notes support the author claim about people dreams on sexual interest because my notes say approximately 95% of peoples dreams about the sexual interest and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All aerobic biological system use oxygen as an essential part of their physiological cellular metabolic processes (Valavanidis et. al 2013). With the inclusion of oxygen within our biological systems come complications. More specifically, air pollution has been deemed hazardous to human health. Air pollution is a complex and abundant mixture of pollutants. The combination of matter includes particulate matter, chemical substance, biological materials as well as particles that are large enough to be seen with the naked eye. Regardless the type of particles it consists of, particulate matter is associated with triggering serious health complications. There is an upsurge in awareness of adverse effects on health due to both acute and chronic exposure to particulate matter. Furthermore, epidemiological as well as toxicological studies continue to discover a correlation between particle pollution and mortality. The objective of this paper is to discuss particulate matter and address the health problems it can manifest. Particulate matter is particle air pollution that consists of both organic and inorganic molecules (Blomberg 2012). • 19. Achievement of the American Dream of an African American... The Huxtable family in The Cosby Show represents the overarching achievement of the American dream through an African American family. According to Marvin Riggs s 1992 documentary Color Adjustment there were two types of images of African Americans in the media. On one hand, the news showed the social and racial tensions that enveloped the post civil rights era. On the other hand, primetime television depicted social harmony among the races an image that most Americans understood as inaccurate. In the 1980s, most African Americans lived below the poverty line and primetime television hesitated to present that challenged ideology of the American Dream to the viewing public. Henry Louis Gates Jr. argues, in Color Adjustment, that the Black urban sitcoms demonstrated both the greatest potential for representing Black life in television s history and also the greatest failure. Residing comfortably in a Brooklyn brownstone, the Huxtables embodied a nuclear and solid family resolving everyday issues of urban life, showing that African Americans could move beyond the stereotypical realm of crooks and servants. The world of the Huxtable family created an aspirational fantasy for minorities groups. The I m With The In Crowd episode succeeds in creating this sense of hope for African Americans by idealizing the Huxtable family through the use of costume and set design, while perpetuating certain African American stereotypes through acting methods and the non diegetic laughter of ... (2) Given the short run period growth drivers outlined, especially the impact of the economic recession, store productivity is expected to increase. We have assumed a ceiling of ~$750 sq.ft; as only very high end boutique apparel stores have sustained such productivity levels. From 2014, productivity is forecast to decrease to normal industry average levels of sales of ~$550 $600/Sq.ft. (3) Average Sq.ft/store is assumed to remain the same over the forecast period. • 21. The Impact Of Canadian Policing During The Nineteenth Century 2) There has been an evolution of police work in Canada. A number of events have shaped Canadian policing, and in particular have shaped three different kinds. These are municipal, provincial, and federal police services. All these services had to start from somewhere. In many respects, the emergence of Canadian policing during the nineteenth century closely mirrored the development of punishment and corrections (Griffiths 2004). In the earliest days, policing in communities was carried out by community residents. Later, some communities started to rely on militias and the navy, while other regions remained unpoliced. These situations were obviously not sufficient to deal with the rising problems faced in an industrialized society. These times are categorized as early municipal policing. Complaints by fishermen led to the first court of justice in North America in Trinity Bay. These early attempts eventually failed. The English appointed fishing admirals , who were captains of fishing vessels empowered to settle disputes. These men were untrained, and normally no better than the people they were to police. In 1792 a Royal proclamation was issued that authorized the Governor of Newfoundland to appoint justices and constables (Course Notes). Early municipal police had three main mandates which were: to police conflicts with ethnic groups, to maintain moral standards by enforcing laws against drunkenness, prostitution and gambling, and to apprehend criminals. Many researchers approach this topic by focusing on the effect that high nurse to patient ratios have on patient outcomes often called nurse specific indicators . The following includes a summary of five recent studies conducted on the cause and effect relationship between high nurse to patient ratios and the increased occurrence of nurse specific indicators (e.g. urinary tract infection, patient falls, central line associated blood stream infections, etc). California passed Assembly Bill 394, making them the first state to pass a law that required hospitals to limit the amount of patients included in a nurse s workload. In the first several years of existence, the United States Navy was not a formidable fighting force. The young nation was hesitant to invest in a navy for many reasons, one of them being to prevent provoking the world powers of the time, France and Britain. On top of that, navies were very expensive to build and required a significant amount of resources to maintain, which the U.S. did not have at the time. To say that the United States Navy was ill prepared for war would be a dramatic understatement. The U.S. had a total of fifteen ships in its entire naval fleet compared to the might of the Royal Navy which possessed over six hundred warships. Even with the odds stacked against the U.S., President Madison declared war on 18 JUN 1812. The lack of size and power of the navy at the time would make it extremely difficult to satisfy the needs of the newly founded nation. The U.S. had enough of the British Navy impressing American sailors and seizing American merchant ships. Even though the U.S. Navy lacked the size that British had, the Royal Navy was stretched to its limits. In a study by Sztark et al (1997) assessed the efficacy of adding fentanyl and pancuronium in reducing the concentration of lignocaine used for IVRA. Their main objective was to measure efficacy of adjuvants and successful regional anesthesia with lower concentration of lignocaine. They also recorded that time to first postoperative need for analgesic was not significantly different between the two groups [11]. The use of α2agonist as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Memis and colleagues (2004) investigated the effects of adding dexmedetomidine (0.5µg/kg) to 40 ml 0.5% lignocaine during Bier`s block. They found significant shortening of the sensory block onset time in the dexmedetomidine group (4.4± 2.1 min) compared to control group (6.5±2.1 min), with prolonged sensory and motor block recovery times, prolonged tolerance for the tourniquet and improved quality of anesthesia in the dexmedetomidine group. Time to first analgesic requirements was significantly longer in dexmedetomidine group. They concluded that Dexmedetomidine as adjuvant to IVRA, effectively improved onset of block, prolonged duration of block and reduces the need for postoperative analgesia. In our study the sensory block onset time in LD group was(56±2.9 sec) which is shorter than the sensory block onset time in the dexmedetomidine group in Memis and college study this can be explained be the fact that we used double the dose of dexmedetomidine which they used [15]. Esmaogluand coworkers (2005) studied the effect of a higher dose of Dexmedetomidine on 40 patients scheduled for elective hand surgery. IVRA was achieved using 3 mg/ kg lignocaine diluted with saline to a total volume of 40 mL either alone in the control group or + 1 μg/kg dexmedetomidine in the dexmedetomidine group. They recorded no difference between the groups with respect to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. My Aunt Julie Is One Of The Most Amazing, Sweet, And... My aunt Julie is one of the most amazing, sweet, and hilarious people I have ever met. She has the most beautiful and kind soul. She was also born with a severe mental and physical handicap called Cerebral Palsy. It is a condition that occurs when the brain hasn t completely developed at birth, in Julie s case she was born prematurely and was also a twin, making her even smaller and more frail at birth. Julie was born not breathing and the doctors couldn t get her to start breathing for 5 minutes after she was born. She is now in her early fifties, but only has the mental capability of a 78 year old child. She has been in a wheelchair for her whole life and never even taken one step, she also has very minimal control of her arms and hands. Julie also has a very hard time controlling her temper and her emotions, I can only assume that it is because she feels as though she is trapped in her own body and will never be able to get out of it and feel free. Julie has this crazy love for Nascar and has never missed watching a race. Everyone has their little obsessions, for my six year old nephew it is toy cars, my older brother it is playing the guitar, for me it is Cadbury Eggs, but for Julie it is Nascar races and the Nascar driver Dale Earnhardt JR. In 2013 my mom and I had decided to take Julie to go see the Daytona 500 in Daytona Florida. This was such a huge deal for Julie because she had never been out of the state of Utah let alone on a plane halfway across the country, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Effect of Temperature on the Rate of Reaction The Effect of Temperature on the Rate of Reaction Aim We is going to investigate how temperature effects the rate of reaction when we use a Magnesium Ribbon and dissolve it in Hydrochloric Acid. Different Variables There are four different variables that effect the rate of reaction, surface area, concentration, temperature and catalysts. Here is some information on each variable with diagrams. How does surface area effect rate of reaction? In a substance the rate of reaction will be quicker if it has a large surface area. However, if it has a small surface area the rate of reaction is much slower. Rate of Reaction is much faster if the surface area is larger because much more of the ... We will start the stopwatch (a stopwatch gives us very accurate readings when recording time) as soon as the Magnesium Ribbon hits the Hydrochloric Acid. 8) When the Magnesium Ribbon has completely disappeared, we shall stop the stopwatch and record the time it took for the Magnesium Ribbon to disappear. 9) This process will be repeated for 25°C, twice. Then we will do the same experiment for the other temperatures, doing each temperature three times. The plan/method above is a very good way of carrying out the experiment. This is because the rate of reaction is effected by temperature. Using the Bunsen burner makes this plan a good way of carrying out this experiment. As the Hydrochloric acid will be heated using the blue flame, it will heat up faster so the results for each temperature can be obtained quickly. Also using a stopwatch makes the plan a very good way of carrying out the experiment because it is very precise when recording how long it takes for something to happen. • 34. Examples Of Immortality In The Iliad As is already known, Homeric literature served as the model for educating Greek boys and young men, as well male Roman citizens later on in Antiquity. The passages of Homer and Hesiod instructed a decorum which defined proper behavior as unyielding bravery in the field of battle, and the continuous desire for besting an opponent through strident competition, or agon in the Greek. Achilles defined this part of heroic conduct, while Odysseus, through his renowned ability for persuasion, defined the other. Ideally therefore, both ways melded together provided a path to immortality and glory, which was the ultimate goal for every male aspirant in Classical Athens. As can be witnessed in Homeric literature especially the Iliad the real meaning of this immortality lay in the recognition of one s achievements by his peers. And while immortality naturally meant being remembered for one s actions, the potential for infamy also was part and parcel of this method. Therefore, this path to everlasting glory may been seen as highly individualistic, with no lasting contribution to the society left behind. Yet this masculine nihilistic ... This means that there is no self guiding principle leading toward the benefit of others, rather, the actor performed in a way he believed would meet approval. One may recall Agenor s brief consideration whether to fight or flee in book 21 of the Iliad. Therefore, the moniker of masculine nihilistic. At the other end of the scale, the feminine procreating, an inspired individual (Socrates) sought to cement his place in eternity through constructive dialogue with a pupil who in turn would repeat the procedure, thus ensuring a continuous ...
